The purpose of the black plastic bag is to draw the heat from from the daylight and TRAP it between the bag and the backside of the window tint. This will help soften the tint to breakdown the adhesive of the tint. However in the video it is raining and he was still able to pull it down no issues. I used this technique and coupled with another video and I sprayed 409 cleaner as well. Technique: Spray the window with the water and baby shampoo and I would add to that a good spray down of 409 household cleaner before I put the plastic bag on the window. I waited 40 min not 2 hours. I also used a heat gun on high (not tool close) to heat up the window on the side where the plastic bag is on. THIS WORKED PERFECT !!! I was able to peel off the tint in one pull. Sliding glass doors ONE PULL no issues and very minor glue residue. PRO TIP !!! While pulling the tint off I would pull down (top to bottom) and spray more 409 cleaner on the window as I was pulling down to keep the tint moist Finally I used 409 and windex along with a "JBF Triumph MK3 Scraper with Double Edged Blade, Professional Glass Scraper / Size 6 inch" to clean the window and remove the remaining glue residue. You can find that scraper on Amazon and the link is in the comments above. END TO END 20 min per window after the bag is put on. If it were not for this video I would still be scraping windows down. This video helped out great. Thanks

I cleaned New construction homes for years & my specialty was windows! To get any remaining adhesive off just spray down the window real good & then go over it with 000 Grade steel wool then you re-wet the window & then use your scraper! The steel wool won't scratchbtgevwindow as long as you KEEP IT WET! Your advice about using the trash bags was spot on!

I've needed to do this to my windows for a LONG time now. Kept putting it off because I just knew it was going to be a difficult task. Well, had I known just how easy this was it would have been done ages ago. THANK YOU!! This video was great! This technique made removing the old tint so easy!!

Amazing! Worked like a charm on reflective tinted windows over 15 years old! I used regular shampoo. Thanks so so much for the tip! Excellent!!

You really only use shampoo? Can remove easily?
@mrsgreencar45264 жыл бұрын
@@michellewong494 Yep. Shampoo with water in a spray bottle. Used a black trash bag just like he said. The film on the windows, was probably there for 15+ years, and it came off in one sheet after I let it warm and soak for a little over an hour. Couldn't believe it. Started at one corner and worked like a charm. Who knew?!

Try "Tint OFF" spray. It will take it all off in 10 minutes using the trash bag method.. It is non toxic and doesn't smell horrible like ammonia. Also 409 cleaner will work as well because it has ammonia in it.

+ floor steamer will do - Karcher SC3 + plastic razor blade > start with a corner edge > two layers of film, if you can just remove the tinting later, much easier and just glides off. This will leave the base/security layer which is see through. From my experience about 80% of the time you get lucky and just the outer layer comes off only with no further steaming necessary. If both layers come away then keep steaming and pull the sheet once you have enough to have a good hold of the film

Hey Guys - which citrus cleaner did you use? Also if the citrus cleaner is a kind of solvent, I'm guessing that there's a chance it could damage the seal on a double pane window and cause a failure. What do you think? Thanks.
@cbrr76156 жыл бұрын
Any sort of "solvents" (citrus or other) are indeed best but typically a no-go on any indoor commercial and especially a residential type removal due to smell/odor, staining and indoor chemical exposure risks. We've used Windex with ammonia D, sprayed, allow to soak for a few then scraped with good but not excellent results, and no complaints from tenants of odors or staff falling out from solvent exposure. Windex softens the adhesive and also acts as a lubricant allowing razor scraper to slide and reduce risk of damaging glass.

I just tried this on my living room skylight windows and it did not work. But I think it was due to lack of heat. It is 29 degrees Fahrenheit here in Chicago and tried this with a small amount of snow on my skylights. Let it sit for 2 hours with baby soap solution applied before and nothing happened. I was tempted to use my heat gun but don’t want that glass to break. Maybe I’ll try again in June or something when it’s sunny. Right now cloudy and cold, after Christmas.

Just tried again in early March on a 55 degree sunny day and it still didn’t work. Now my tin is cracked and hard all over. Does anyone have a suggestion for best way to get this removed?
@cxh12254 жыл бұрын
@@jackj5591 55 probably still wasn't too conducive. You might give it another go around now with the temps are hanging in the neighborhood of 80 in these parts. I'm about to try this but my tint on this rental looks like folks have tried something in the past without success (scratch marks of frustration abound which just makes it look worse) and this stuff looks like it's here to stay.
