I removed the tint from my wifes car today. I researched google and even youtube. As I tried window cleaner, garbage bags and heat, scraping with a razor, I noticed a bottle of something on my work bench. I was like, "hey, that stuff stained my safety glassed when I used this product, what the hell, lets try it". So, I sprayed a bit on a piece of paper towel and found a lil spot out of regular view, and began a lil wiping. OFF, Deep Woods Sportsmen. Yes, skeeter repellent. It worked for me. I had to tackle this project, removing the oldest, thickest Safety Film from a sliding glass door. A sharp scraper is a must. Regarding products, I had great success spraying WD-40 liberally onto the residual glue and scraping the glue in one direction into piles & removing with rag. No solvent will allow you simply wipe off any real volume of glue; you must scrape it off. The WD-40 doesn't evaporate quickly like all those solvents & of course the lubricant allows the blade to travel smoothly. A "foaming/scrubbing bubbles" bathroom cleaner does a great finish...

What the professionals at the window tinting shops do, is they get garbage bags ready and then they spray the product on to the window Anne tape the garbage bag over it inside the car of course, and let it sit out in the sun for two hours and so the sun heating up the window causes a greenhouse effect because the plastic trash bag is now sealing up the whole area inside the window and the cleaner is able to kind of steam its way through and that's what they say is their easiest method of removing the tint.

That's awesome see you never know which solvent is going to work on which type of window adhesive.
@wordcarr87504 жыл бұрын
One thing obvious to me, from this demo, is that 'water based' solvents don't work but petroleum based carburetor cleaners do. Also, with a good petrol solvent it shouldn't be necessary to use abrasives, scrapers, etc to remove film adhesive residue, Of course, once this residue has been removed by petrol solvent, then the solvent, itself, must be cleaned up with a soapy water/ammonia solution.
@jeffostroff4 жыл бұрын
The problem sometimes is getting the solvent under the film to break up the adhesive. This is why window tint companies often us a garbage bag to tent the window and let the sun bake and heat up the adhevie.

Paper towels will cause more streaks, don't ever use paper towels to clean windows, or windshields on cars. Have you tried a hot air gun to soften the material and see if it comes off? Also many better window tint shops to get the old tint off the cars will tape plastic bags over the window after they spray and let it sit for an hour in the sun to make a greenhouse effect and soften the adhesive to get the film off.

Serea: This looks a lot like what I had on the windows in the condo of that video that you mentioned. It could be an additional layer of clear film to protect the tint, or it could be part of the window tint film that has de-laminated. Have you tried our final solution of spraying that carburetor cleaner on the film, and does it help? you have to keep in wet with the spray and keep scraping it while it's wet. A woman would have used a new area for each cleaner instead of using the SAME window quadrant for EVERY solution. (insert eye roll) So according to your video, if you use ALL of these, ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, eventually your adhesive will come off!
@jeffostroff5 жыл бұрын
Yeah but a smart woman would have realized that a product works or does not work. And if it does not work, then you don't need to move on to a different area. All you are looking for is a product that works, and each one dries within seconds of applying. In fact, even the products that did work you can see that you had to keep it wet with the product in order for it work. So the palate is basically clean again, just like when you are tasting wine, you wait until the taste of the first wine is gone before you continue. And no you are wrong, because we did a lot of testing before rolling the video, and no adhesive eventually comes off like you claim, unless the solvent you apply is a real solvent that dissolves that adhesive.

Why didn't you talk to a window tint specialist? Straight ammonia sprayed on will melt it like slime and you remove the slime with a paper towel. Lol. Now you have introduced all those chemicals into your home to breathe in. Eww
@jeffostroff6 жыл бұрын
You are wrong, ammonia does not dissolve 40 year old adhesive, only a solvent works on that. Also, with the chemicals I used, there was not much of a smell at all, once it dries you don't smell it anymore, and besides, we use window cleaner afterwards any way so there is no residue. And also, you're just tripping over your own advice, because ammonia smells pretty bad too, and concentrated ammonia is way too dangerous, and end smells even worse.

@@jeffostroff 12 years of tinting windows and removing adhesive I do know what I'm talking about. Sad you feel the need to correct me. Glad you found something you feel works. How smug to feel you needed to say I was tripping... What? Sad you felt the need to be rude.

@@louisemissouri4410 Well that's interesting, all the other videos on KZbin from professional window tint people don't show them using ammonia.

@@judgedredd3686 You don't need to try harder, you just need to try a better product. WD40 might work on some types of adhesive, but did not do a good job on this one. The B12 was he best product, as it is a solvent, along with gumout, but they are better solvents than WD40. In this video, you'll see all the carb cleaners would clear though the adhesive while dripping down the window. WD40, not so much.
