Judit Polgar was born July 23, 1976 in Hungary. She defeated an international master when she was 10 years old and an international grandmaster when she was 11. In 1991, she became a grandmaster at the age of 15 years and 4 months. At the time she was the youngest ever grandmaster. She has clearly been the best female chess player ever. Her peak position in the FIDE rating list was number eight.
Opposing Polgar in this game is the present world champion, Viswanathan Anand who was seven years older. Polgar showed she was old enough and strong enough. However, both Polgar and Anand did not excel in the tournament in which this game was played. The event was Dos Hermanas 1999. The contestants and their scores were: Adams 6, Kramnik 5.5, Topalov 5, Illescas Cordoba 5, Gelfand 4.5, Karpov 4.5, Korchnoi 4, Anand 3.5, Svidler 3.5, and Polgar 3.5. Considering the ratings of the players, each one of them achieved a GM norm score. The winner, Adams, had three wins and six draws in nine games. No other player had more than two wins. Anand actually had no wins. Polgar did win two games, but lost four.
The opening became a Najdorf Variation of the Sicilian Defense. The excitement was kicked up a notch with the Hungarian Attack or (Bela) Perneyi Variation with 7.g4. There are numerous game references and much analysis showing that players who step into this line are risk takers.

Susan Polgar, 7 years older, once gave this commentary about Judit in one of her videos "One evening, I and Sofia were studying a particularly hard endgame with a trainer, a strong International Master. Unable to find the solution, we awoke Judit, who was asleep in bed and carried her into the training room. Still half asleep, Judit showed us how to solve the problem, after which we carried her back to bed" and according to Wikipedia, the following exchange, "At age 5, she defeated a family friend without looking at the board. After the game, the friend joked: "You are good at chess, but I'm a good cook." Judit replied: "Do you cook without looking at the stove?"

Judit is awesome. She is a very aggressive player who is unafraid to sacrifice a piece (or sometimes even two pieces) to open up lines of attack. She has the self confidence to do this knowing she will be able to back it up, and has won many a game because of this. She also has the courage and the self-respect to stand up for herself when people are rude or unfair to her. God bless her- this amazing woman!

@@pathutchison9866 I'm afraid that many people now look for reasons to feel offended. I daresay that whenever a man praises any woman for anything there are some people who will immediately accuse him of being patronising. I would praise my other great chess hero Alekhine to the same extent that I praise Judit, and nobody would say it was patronising. I'm afraid in these days of SJWs , virtue signalling is considered to be the norm. In fact a great many of my heroes are women. In music I love pianists like Martha Argerich and Yuja Wang and Valentina Lisitsa and several others. True, I appreciate Yuja's short skirts, but then I am a man so what can you expect! In sport there's Paula Radcliff and Sally Gunnell. I rest my case.

It's a very subjective question, but here is my opinion. Without doubt, Judit is the strongest female player in history. Will another woman surpass her? Perhaps, but it will take a long time and a lot of achievements considering what Judit has already accomplished: * Polgar was the top rated female player for 26 years (1989-2015). * The only woman ever to make the Candidates tournament. * The only woman to have won games against 11 World Champions (including chess: Magnus Carlsen, Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov, Vladimir Kramnik, Boris Spassky, Vasily Smyslov, Veselin Topalov, Viswanathan Anand, Ruslan Ponomariov, Alexander Khalifman, and Rustam Kasimdzhanov.) I can't recall any men that have defeated more than that number of world champions (but I haven't researched it); I think that covers every world champion from Spassky to Carlsen except Bobby Fischer. * The first woman (and one of very few) to break 2700 ELO. * She accomplished many of these achievements while being actively opposed by her country and it's chess federation. We may eventually see another woman that is technically stronger than than Polgar, but I am doubtful that we will ever see another woman so completely dominate women's chess spanning 4 decades the way that she did.

The dependency is great. The moment Judit got married and had children was also a big dip in her form. She was brought up to play chess all the time since she was 3 years old and her life was 100% dedicated to it. Yifan had never played that much, but she was still able to compete with even the best chess players. Hou Yifan was a natural chess prodigy with incredible talent and if only she became a professional chess player she could become the best woman in history.

Judit is obvously the best female chess player of all time. Only 3 have ever been in the top 100 but while the other 2 weren't in the top 50, she was in the top 10. She's the only one who was an elite even by the men's standards. She was never the best but wasn't too far off, and her few post-retirement games reveal she's not as good as she used to be so she's not going to attain new heights now, but the bar she set already is far above any other female player. She might have been on par with Kasperov if she hadn't been screwed by him getting away with undoing his move, I think that broke her resolve and she ended up not ascending to the level she would have.

i met Susan Polgar she was the head chess coach of the university a couple blocks away from my house, Webster University. she came in for a local chess tournament for kids at the middle school there and i happened to be volunteering with some other people on my team as refs. She absolutely wasted my highschool's board one on our lunch break (not that he put up much of a fight from her standard). definitely one of the coolest chess experiences i've had!

Of course Judit is the greatest female player, when another woman breaks the world top ten then she has competition. As for the idea of the best "female" chess player, this is no more offensive than asking who the greatest British player of all time was. It's unfortunate that women don't seem to take as much of an interest in chess compared to men, it's also unfortunate that Britain does not have as much of an interest as Hungary. Hungary have a richer chess history than Britain, and men have a richer history than women. It's neither sexism nor xenophobia, it's just culture.

Judit is the best ever, no question about it. :) She's the only woman who went above 2700 Élő points. (2735) Hou Yifan is only the second. Also Judit is hotter then her.

It appears (to my untrained eye) that Polger played like a super strong engine from the very start. That Anand was able to perform so well in such conditions is a great credit to him.
