Ekta ji I think Banana peel is rich source of Potassium (K) and not Phosphorus (P). Banana Peel can replace Seaweed Ascophyllum Nodosum as far as Potassium is concerned but seaweed contains other micro nutrients and trace minerals. Worm Compost and it's tea should be able to meet all the fertiliser requirement (slow release via microbes and fungi). Phosphorus rich fertiliser is Bonemeal under organic alternative. Thanks, Rajiv S
@GardenUp6 жыл бұрын
sir, the banana pulp we eat is rich in K but the banana peel is good in P content. The sea weed extract I get does not mention what plant it has been been extracted from but it seems well balanced in nutrient composition. I don't use any other plant supplement, not even for vegetables.
@rajiv98196 жыл бұрын
@@GardenUp Ma'm here is the link which details out composition of peel and not the fruit pulp/fiber. It is rich in K and very very low in P and so essentially banana peel is not a P fertiliser but a K fertiliser. Please correct me if I am missing anything with references if possible. www.omicsonline.org/open-access/nutrient-and-heavy-metal-composition-of-plantain-musa-paradisiaca-and-banana-musa-paradisiaca-peels-2155-9600-1000370.php?aid=52304

Hi, I would agree with you but we are both partly right. I read up a little more and found than banana is actually good for P, K, Ca and magnesium as well.. so it can be great for the plants.for reference see 'Banana and it's byproduct utilization, Mohapatra et al 2010' thanks for such a healthy discussion.. I am glad you pointed out...

NDL Organic Gardening can we use banana peel as a fertiliser?
@rajiv98196 жыл бұрын
@@abhisheksharma9460 It is not an all purpose fertilizer meaning it is rich in K component. For N you can use Neem Cake or Mustard cake. For P you can use bonemeal. All above 3 are organic alternatives of NPK. Worm Compost alone is very good all round option of an all purpose slow release fertiliser. It is the best option in my view. In foreign countries they consider it as a soil conditioner rather than soil fertiliser reason being no one can guarantee the exact ratio of NPK as there are various ways as well as various ingredients which can be used. Hope it answers you question.

Yesterday I repotted both of them to relatively bigger pots with potting soil and watered them down well... As per ue recommendation I also bought Seasol but not quiet sure how much I need to use ...The instructions r there at the back of the bottle but do I really need to make so much for just 2 potted plants ? So my question is how much Seasol liquid is required for these 2 potted plants and secondly once the seasol liquid is prepared, is it one time used or is used over a period of 3 to 6 months? if so how to store this liquid ?
