Cool accessory. When it's the right temp, we drive with the back window open, front windows down. I made my own window prop device for $7. All metal with rubber to keep from rattling. I store it in the netting in the back door. It's always ready to deploy.

1/4 inch turnbuckle with eyes at both ends. Open one eye till it slips over the latch in the glass latch the other end to the door..... Done, $2.98. I churched mine up by slipping a piece of vacuum tubing over the opened eye at the glass end as insurance against rattles. Made one for my FJ years ago. No exhaust and much smoother airflow through the cabin with the windows open.

An easy way to check for fumes is go down a dusty caliche road and see how much if any gets sucked into the back window/cab.
@heatheronwheels2 жыл бұрын
Great, quick video. I bought this a few weeks ago for my 07 FJ. It sure makes it more pleasant to have the side windows down by evening the air pressure. I was skeptical too on there being rattling but I found it to be a solid connection. I wouldn't have this on mine on a dusty road like at Windrock because I definitely think it would pull the dust into the cabin. I think it would be great if you were sleeping in the back while camping so you can get some air in the back or to have dogs in the back. As far as exhaust, I haven't had any issues where it's been overwhelming.

Just ordered one of these 3 days ago. Haven't gotten it yet but I look forward to trying it out. I am a little worried about the exhaust fumes because I have a dual exhaust that exits out the back unlike the stock single passenger side exit. It probably won't be great when stopped at a light or in traffic but driving will probably be fine. I mainly got it for when my dog is in the back. Let's hope I don't kill him with the fumes.

Have you made a video on how to install that cargo netting you installed on your Fj? If not will you make one? Thanks for all the awesome videos you have done with the FJ.

Nite Ize Gear Tie Reusable Rubber Twist Tie. Make a loop ➰ at one end that fits in the lock latch and snake the other end around the window latch. For 5 bucks. And when you're not using it for that, you can use it to string all of your grocery bags together for easy carry 😎

I don't see the need to drive with the rear window hatch open??
@WanderlostOverland2 жыл бұрын
Your opinion.
@bazaarwallah54442 жыл бұрын
I don't mean to offend, but it's not an 'annoying flaw' the reason the rear hatch should remain closed when driving is so that the car's occupants don't asphyxiate or fall asleep at the wheel from carbon monoxide fumes. It would be bad engineering and Toyota would be sued if they designed a rear hatch that stayed open.

Because the only windows in the FJ that roll down are the front 2 ones. I drive with my FJ's back window open all the time in the summer. It provides you with a nice breeze. As long as you are moving and the front windows are at least cracked a bit, exhaust isn't a problem. The 4runner has a window that rolls down and I wish the FJ had that same feature.
@myplantswearpants1030 Жыл бұрын
I like to ride with my dog in the back (attached to the cargo hooks with a harness) and she loves to peek out the window. Since the rear windows don’t roll down, it’s a nice alternative.

Due to the laws of aerodynamics, air will get sucked in through that back window when open while driving. Will there be enough CO2 to kill or make you sick, it depends on the shape of the vehicle, and the length of time you've been driving. Plus there is a good chance it'll be too late by the time you reaslise. Personally, I won't do it.
