Today I removed the clutch spring in the BRZ. It helps you feel the bite point a lot easier and makes it easier to shift smoothly while adding weight to the pedal. But I don't know if I prefer it overall or if I liked it better before. Let me know what you think about it and if you tried it yourself! Thanks for watching and remember to SUBSCRIBE for more!

I think what you need to do is get a spring of the same size with less force, maybe half of what was stock, a machinist should be able to do this for you pretty cheap, then just reinstall the clutch assist mechanism with the new spring.

great mod, thank you. My FRS now shifts like my old BMW e30 325e with dual mass flywheel and had a nice solid feel and clunk sound, and a distinct engagement point. My sons who are learning standard thank you also - they INSTANTLY started no longer missing gears or stalling.

BTW we have the MTEC clutch spring on order, but we could not wait. Debating whether or not to cancel my order but I think I'll try it and see. My son thinks we should keep the car more OEM, he thinks if there is SOME kind of spring there, that's better than nothing. But if it makes it worse again, I may have an MTEC clutch spring for sale :)

@@MarvinHecht hey just wanted to know how it went with the MTEC clutch spring, did it improve, or was it better off not having one?

@@introflies so I had gone with NO clutch spring for a while since the part was on back order. That made it feel like my bimmer - and was a totally free mod. But I’d rather substitute parts not just remove them ( even for originality in case this car becomes a classic) so I like having the spring in there, and it still FEELS like shifting a bmw clutch . The only issue I have is the engagement point is in the middle. Both my bmw and Porsche have the engagement point near the bottom. So I need to still do that OTHER FREE mod where you lower the height of the clutch pedal to the same height as the brake pedal- or even lower. Is that easy to do, or have you done that too ?

@@MarvinHecht Hey thanks for the reply man, I haven't adjusted the height of the clutch pedal though I think I might need to do that soon... I just replaced my entire clutch 2 months ago and it's feeling weird again, pain in the ass.

Clutch mod. Best mod. You can adjust pedal position when you do this mod to counteract all of your negatives.

The spring is there to keep the clutch pedal up completely, just like you have observed, in order to prevent the throwout bearing from touching the clutch disc; while no immediate harm is happening, you might be speeding up its wear and tear.

GM sent a memo to Chevrolet dealers instructing them to advise Corvette owners NOT to remove the clutch assist spring because doing so increases wear on the clutch assembly components.

The lack of a spring is not going to apply enough pressure to the hydraulic system to impact the throw out bearing in any way. It takes a lot of pressure to operate those hydraulics.

I just found your channel sometime in November, as I bought a 17' Brz, Still fairly new to driving standard/Manual, I've owned a few beaters over the years but they never lasted longer than a month. I'm at the point where I spin the tires a little in first all the time, (praying for my clutch) but I will say in my opinion I do like the light clutch being a beginner. I drove an 01 Civic and found that clutch terrifying to drive long term as I was learning lol.

IAG did a video on clutch adjustment. You can tap a hole where the little rubber bump stop is and put in a stopper bolt. Takes that centimeter off play out.

It seems like an over center arm arrangement, I am going to do same but add a normal return spring pull pedal to top. My car has a Clunk when I depress the pedal, I hope this is the problem.

Another way i got the pedal to feel like normal clutches is i got an exedy stage 2 abd kept that spring there lol the heavier pressure plate makes it a lot easier to feel the grabbing point...... granted this clutch is like an on and off switch though lol

BRZ Billy I just bought a FRS with the same clutch. Man is it unforgiving. I’m a taller guy and with the high grab point I’m kinda hating it. I’m thinking of trying the spring mod but also don’t want to damage this sweet clutch.
@frogstar911
@frogstar911 5 жыл бұрын
@@2inthepink1inthestnk If you do the spring mod it wont damage the clutch, its just going to give the pedal a shorter throw and make it a lot heavier especially since the pressure plate with the exedy stage 2 is 40% heavier than stock

how is the accelerator pedal? On my Yaris there is a distinct 0.8-1.2s delay between pedal up or down and actual electronic throttle response. It took a while to get my brain to delay shifts to match the throttle response times. I am hoping the delay on the throttle on the BRZ is negligible.
@RobbieFerreira
@RobbieFerreira 7 жыл бұрын
+Prax the delay is barely anything on this car you'll find it to be a big improvement over the Yaris !
@soup-bruhh
@soup-bruhh 7 жыл бұрын
i have no problem with throttle response when rev matching and other things. when taking off from a light, blip the gas before because it will have a small delay in time, also since that delay, itll make you think you need more gas leading you to having 3000rpm starts and burning your clutch. thats how it was for me at first until i learned the car (i guess thats what youd call it)

I drove my friend's frs that had the spring removed, and I definitely didn't like it. I will say that the "springy" clutch pedal did take some getting used to when I first bought the car, but it wasn't long before I could shift smoothly again. What I found that took the most getting used to was the 2-3 shift, because I was used to my old veloster turbo r spec that came stock with a b&m racing short shifter.

I had my tune shop(i'm no good with DIY skills, no tools or know-how) swap my spring to an MTEC clutch spring. I would give that shot. It makes the pedal heavier but still retains that factory feel. It's not night and day but its a better experience overall. For such an inexpensive part I would do it just to try.

@@PBrooksSawyer Its not fine in the 2022. I ordered the Mtec spring for mine. Waiting for it now. The 22 clutch feel sucks. I have owned and driven manual cars only for over 20 years. This car is the hardest car to drive smoothly because the clutch pedal provides zero feel and grabs all the way at the very top.

@@boost331 interesting. Yea I'm new to manuals so I've been curious. My shifts can be pretty rough sometimes and I've already put 4500 miles on mine. Only reason I'm hesitant is bc a couple friends that have driven the car make it sound like the clutch is all good but tbh idk if they just saying that haha. Maybe I should get the spring.

The higher the constant of elasticity the more stiffer it will be, when buying a new spring, try to search for the 'K' value

Removing the spring makes the pedal feel lighter. As you see, when the pedal od pressed in, the spring expands causing a rise in the force pushing back on the pedal (back towards the driver). If you want a heavier feel, get a stiffer spring installed into the pedal.
@buddybestor
@buddybestor 3 жыл бұрын
Wrong, it makes it heavier, not lighter. It's expanding because it's pushing off the plate. Watch this video and you'll see kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpjZhGakbdx8b7s. It helps keep the pedal up AND it also helps push the pedal down, it's based on the geometry and leverage points.
