What's interesting about Supergiant is that their games have an instantly recognizable style even though their three games thus far have been completely different in terms of gameplay.

Transistor wasn't that different from Bastion. Big differences, but a similar core.

Admittedly, they are in the sense that the gameplay is action-focused with RPG elements, but the general "feel" of how to play each game is different. Bastion was a straightforward platforming action-RPG with a adapting narrator gimmick. Transistor, despite having real-time combat, was much slower and more methodical almost to the extent that it felt like a turn-based RPG at times. Pyre's differences are pretty obvious from this video alone.

The only time Bastion was anything like a platformer was in the final sequence when you get the jumping ability very briefly. Transistor got a lot more fast-paced as you progressed and tackled harder challenges. Transistor is slower initially, but the core between it and Bastion are the same. Bastion and Transistor's gameplay is about as different as Bloodborne and Dark Souls.

Okay, I'll admit the comment wasn't exactly well-thought-out. Though the point still stands that Supergiant has a recognizable style to it. Even though this game is basically the Blitzball minigame crossed with a visual novel, anyone familiar with Supergiant's previous games can instantly recognize this as a distinctly "Supergiant" game.

I agree that this game's style is very Supergiant. My comment was more towards the comparisons between Bastion and Transistor. I played Bastion back when it first released, and when I heard about the gameplay changes in Transistor, I loved the changes but after playing I could see the skeleton of Bastion in it, and with the gameplay segments I see that same skeleton in Pyre. I think it's Pyre's shifted focus towards a visual-novel style, along with the change to the structure of the gameplay encounters, that make it feel more different from the previous Supergiant games.

To answer a question that never came up again, the enemy will throw the orb at you because it cancels your aura out and leaves you vulnerable. As the computer gets more difficult they will use that trick to interrupt your aura casting and to press the offense

pieisdelish1 everyone lives in this place called the downside, it's like a purgatory dimension, there is only one city witch is basically the heaven real, people who commit crime or are a general nuisance are banished from the heaven city and are thrown out into the world, the only way to acheave redemption and be allowed entry back into heaven land is by learning how to read a celestial book (the book the protagonists have) and following the starts to places were the rites(a game of sports ball) are taking place, you play against the enemy team with your salvation being on the line, the game follows your character as he is the only person around that can read the book, you must play coach to your team as you play others, furthering your own salvation but fucking the rest of the other teams.

There are these people/beast-people that are exiled forever to this horrible region for various crimes. The only way for redemption is to join up with various, specific groups of at least three, including yourself, and participate in rituals which is basically wizard ball.The stars determine who goes against who and where they go at it. Eventually, it culminates in two groups worthy enough to hash it out in one final game of wizard ball. The winner group chooses one of their own to send back in glory. Now, you are one the rare few literate people around, as it is banned in your civilization and was your reason for exile. You can provide a sort of spiritual guidance to your group through your knowledge and ability to gain knowledge by reading a special book. As you make your way to the final wizard ball fight, you learn about the various landmarks of the region and of the first exiles, who are known as the legendary Eight Scribes. There are also a couple surprises you will learn about and get involved in along the way.
