Fun Fact: According to Adam Hines, writer from The Wolf Among Us who was transferred to this game's development, his original script for Loader Bot had the player as Rhys customize ever element of Loader Bot. While the bad guys start inching in, the player would spend almost 10 minutes or more customizing Loader Bot's "weapons it would have, the paint decals, its voice, everything… and then as soon as it’s called down from orbit it explodes on impact and you get stuck with a generic one." Hines thought it was the funniest thing ever, but it never made it past that first pass writing.

For reference: 1:05 For those wondering why Athena hates Atlas, it's because they tricked her into killing her sister. Athena was an Assassin trained by Atlas and sent to be stationed with General Knoxx. But when they realized that Athena had an ulterior motive on Pandora, to find her sister, Atlas ordered her Omega Squad annihilate the village Athena's sister lived, and Athena accidentally killed her own sister. This sent Athena into an Anti-Atlas rage and vowed for their destruction by any means. Tl;Dr, she's basically Kratos. 1:30 Athena's shield, Aspis, blocks and absorbs all incoming damage and throws it back at the enemy. 5:13 Janey Springs is from the Pre-Sequel who lives/lived on Elpis, Pandora's moon, it's basically Space Australia. Where she serves as the Moon's version of Scooter. Throughout the Pre-Sequel, Springs constantly hit on Athena as Janey is a Lesbian which led to Athena and Springs ending up in a relationship, and moving to Pandora after the events of The Pre-Sequel. 7:05 Fiona stealing Aspis is weird considering Athena can recall her shield on command, but I guess that would blow her cover with Springs and appear that she was in fact hunting Fiona and Sasha. 9:45 You mean "of the Truxican variety" Woolie. 20:18 "King Arthur's Gun, have you ever pulled that out of the slab?" You know, it's funny you mention that Matt. That exact thing exists in The Pre-Sequel. It's called "The Excalibastard". You have to pull it from a stone, but to that you have to have a "Badass Rank" of 2500. You get Badass Rank by completing Challenges in the game.

It's a recurring theme in Borderlands that nobody is unironically cool all of the time - everyone is either overtly or secretly a goober. By the time the Borderlands 1 characters had OG status in BL2, we could see that Brick has childishly trashy tastes and doesn't seem to notice how much it undermines his authority as a marauder warboss, Lilith is a horny weeb, Mordecai is a drunkard whose marriage fell apart because he spent more time with his pet bird than with his wife, and Roland has all the game of a generic harem anime protagonist. I guess Helena Pierce probably didn't have anything silly about her, but she didn't live long enough for the audience to know that until after the fact.

Besides Marcus, no there really isn't. The most notable bosses/villains from Borderlands 1 were Sledge(because he was constantly used in promotional material) and Nine-Toes(because he's the first Boss to get a Cut-In Intro), both of which are canonically Dead.
