It was a fun episode. Because Maomao and Jinshi interaction are mostly light hearted and comedic I tend to forget how dark the world they live in. Just the number of death alone so far not accounting for all the psychological trauma of all the other characters.

There are 14 light Novels so far, so there's a looot of material they can work with. There are some exciting plots and moments to look forward to if they continue the anime. I've been really enjoying your reactions to this series. Looking forward to next week's video! 😊

@@ogami7661 I haven’t read the light novels but some spoilers. What I do see is them making a movie covering later chapters of the novel. Or maybe 4 seasons with not covering everything and skipping unnecessary parts of the story that doesn’t need to be animated.

Maomao doesn't want to figure it out because it would complicate things. Simply seeing his body should have been enough, eunuchs can't have muscles like that... it's kind of physically impossible, their strength potential is also a lot smaller. Also, a courtesan wouldn't get pregnant if she didn't want to....

Can you blame anyone for feeling that way? So far, everything that's been revealed about him paints him as a greedy a**hole who schemes and manipulates those around him to get what he wants. LIterally, nothing about his words or actions is redeemable. Its going to take a HUGE reveal to turn that around at this point.

i say it's pretty normal for a guy to wear makeup in asian countries like china,japan,koean in current times! i sometimes wear basic foundation, atleast when i go to fancy parties to not be rude! remember in the big 3 asian countries, going to somthing like a job interview with a beard is considered extremely rude! also you said that purity isn't important, however this anime is written by a japanese person taking place in china, and in these cultures purity is held at high regard at the utmost level! in japan around 50％of men and woman in they're 20s have never even kissed a guy or a girl, and it's not just they can't, but it's about having integrity👍

I 100% agree with you. I can only imagine there is a HUGE reveal coming for Lakan. That's the only way I can accept there are so many people saying "just give him a chance" because, right now, there's absolutely nothing redeemable about him from the story or even through his own words and actions.

12:05 I think people don't really get Maomao's characterization. I mean, Maomao is the type who believes in the philosophy of "Ignorance is Bliss", meaning she would do anything possible to not learn about stuff to live a peaceful life, and even if she does figure stuff out, she would just push it out of her mind. So, why would she actively try to figure out something which doesn't benefit her, and might possibly even bring in extra burden.

There is a lot more to Lakan then meets the eye. And there is a lot more to the story behind maomaos biological parents. Keep an open mind to that. I currently read the manga I’m reading volume 9 of the manga. Maomaos mother is very very ill . She wasn’t abused or anything like that

12:40 true... but you know what? I believe they are hinting that Jinshi has some form of ADHD, and/or Aspergers Syndrome (i.e. Autism) and in a way, Maomao is the same... I kinda hope that they get to a point where they talk about those who are "neurodivergent", i.e. those who think very differently to how normal people think, like those with Autism and ADHD Because lets be real; most people back then wouldn't willingly let a snake bite your arm, and most nobles back then wouldn't develop affection for an unassuming freckled girl who looks at you as if you're a maggot and is obsessed with drugs imagine if Jinshi literally gets diagnosed with a form of

people need to learn some history and stop thinking everything in a woke mindset, given the time period of the story is very obvious it was in ancient china, when the culture was more patriarcal than ever and men was more favored than women, is just where the culture and society was at the time and it is one of the reason why the characters think the way they do

We the viewers do know.. them the people in the story dont. To them he favors her because he is amused by her, she's a commoner, he cannot marry her, at best she can be his concubine, not the legal wife. So to them she is a toy he cannot keep.

@@firemaiden029 Maomao knows Lakan's her dad. This was made clear when Jinshi described Lakan to her the first time and she dismissed it but later realized she couldn't avoid it. If she ever wants to marry Jinshi and someone brought up the status issue, she could grab Lakan and just go, "Welp, don't worry. I'm not a commoner but a proper lady of the House of La, right DAD?"
