Nice setup man. I use a similar chest rig set up to film my dog tracking deer. There is a company called 3BR power sports that makes a housing with a water prof door/USB cable combination that works really well. Some of our deer recovery is done at night so i looked and looked for a light that is good for video and that will reach out further than the normal video lights that i could mount on my chest rig. The Nitecore HU60 is small 1300 lumen head lamp that is powered strictly from a USB power bank. I use a 20000mHh power bank with two USB charge ports that run both the Hero 8 and the light. I have the power bank in pouch that clips to my belt. The rig works really well.

@@BassmasterTL The pouch had used was just an old hunting belt with some pouches on it. I had the same problem with the usb connections staying put. I used a velcro strap that I wrapped around the power bank and extension cables that held everything in place. That worked well. Now I am using the Nitecore power bank that has the clip on it that clamps to the usb connector from the Nitecore headlight. That works great. Here’s some food for thought, try using play-Doh clay and push it in and around the hole of the new door that you installed for the power cables. You can also stuff it around the usb jack of the battery, and here’s on more tips. You can daisy chain the batteries. You can run a usb cable from one battery to the other. . Instead of using zip-ties, try Velcro, or even better, to keep to heat away for your GoPros , zip-tie the battery/ batteries to your chest harness, one of each side so that the Weight is even on the harness. I know if would kick my OCD in big time. Lol. And as for the cables, you can cut some very small slices into the harness ( them use some heat to melt any stray threads and to make the size hardened ) that way the holes will not get any larger. This way you can run a longer cable from one battery to to next and then to the gopro. More batteries, more running time and less heat from the batteries , as the batteries charge the gopro , and now you will have less of a load on them as well
@NickeeGee3 жыл бұрын

I do kayak fishing in the open sea and I liked your idea to do it on the boom stick of my camera. Unfortunately I am at risk of tipping over or a wave hitting the camera and that is what made me hesitate to use your option. I'm thinking about how I could better seal the power cord entry so it's easy to put on and take off each time it's used. I think that would finish solving my problem. Just to share my experience. I heard about the 3BR case a long time ago and was excited by the idea of finally having waterproof power from a power bank. Unfortunately when I contacted the brand they told me that it only protects against rain and light splashes (IP65 rating), but not if hit by a wave, and it costs more than $60usd. That makes me lean more towards your option, I just have to find a simple way to seal it with some material that I can remove after each use. If you've come up with a way to fix it, I'd love to hear it. Tight lines!
@NickeeGee Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the awesome reply! I'm not sure exactly which camera you're using but I know GoPro came out recently with a cord that offers some added water protection..the other thing I've seen people do is use some plyable silicone to form a watertight seal. Either way there's not a 100% way for it to be waterproof which stinks. You'd think they would have come up with something by now...

I have done it with hot melt glue around the plug while in the hole. Can still remove the door. You can also just leave the battery out as the pack will power the camera. Can you run the GoPro without the battery when using the power bank?
@NickeeGee3 жыл бұрын
Yes I can! I actually just tested it to be sure and it gives a no battery warning but it still records no problem!

@@NickeeGee so I’ve got the go pro 10 and I love fishing instead of getting the chaginh door thing could I just take the door off and take the battery out?
@NickeeGee2 жыл бұрын
@@Cruz_Fishing you could, you just leave the GoPro very vulnerable to water at that point

Awesome vid! How much recording time do you get with your sd card? do you have to switch out sd cards? I use a 128gb card, but can only get up to 2-3 hours.
@NickeeGee3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adrian!! What do you record in? I record in 1080p 60 frames per second most of the time, and normally am using hindsight feature on the GoPro Hero 9 which allows me to really only record what I need to so I rarely have that much footage. I actually just tested it and it says I can get 3 hours and 56 minutes of recording time shooting at 1080p 60 FPS on a 128GB card. I hope that helps and thank you for taking the time to leave that comment I really appreciate it!!!

Lose the zip ties and get mini bungi cards.
@NickeeGee2 жыл бұрын
I'll check those out thanks man!

My neighbor turned me a stick to put in the hole on the back of the boat where the back seat goes. I mount my go pro on it with a bungi card wrapped around the battery pack against the stick. This way I can catch every angle. I can swivel it to the right if I'm fishing the starboard side or turn it left if fishing the port side. Check me/it out on 185VSRANGER hit me with a comment on a video tell me what you think. I have some full length videos the shorter ones I was just learning. You don't have to like or subscribe just check out how the view is set up. Hope it helps.

Just bought a go pro this is awesome but I’m not sure how I can apply this if I wanted to wear my go pro on my head 🥲

Yeah I don't think that'll work man haha. UNLESS you just get a really long cord and stick the power bank in your pocket

@@franciscosaldivar6251 very nice! I'm actually going to do a video soon about head vs chest mounting for fishing. There's pros and cons to both so I think it'll be helpful for people!
