I have used OsmAnd extensively and I really like it. I've even uploaded offline satellite mapping to it via SAS Planet (a couple of amateurish videos on my channel). I did find one bug; at 9:00 you tap on the screen to ask OsmAnd to give you the distance from your location to a point on the map. OsmAnd will work out a route on hiking trails which is great. But if you ask OsmAnd to go from point A-B-C it will give you a longer distance than if you only asked it to go from A-C even though it uses the same route. This may not happen every time, I would need to test it further. I suspect it's trying to find the distance from A-B-A-C, so it's likely getting confused and giving an incorrect distance. Incidentally I never knew about the Waymarked Trails Map, but did you notice it didn't show the GR10, GR11 or HRP at the Pyrenees, three of Europe's most popular hikes, they were totally missed out. I have another lesser known mapping app that I really like and that is Pocket Earth Pro, unfortunately it's ios only, PEP has far better search options, it will search for a wider more specific range of things, for example you can even search for laundrettes. PEP is also better for urban use as it clearly shows train and bus routes. PEP totally rocks, I just wish it was available on Android. Oh and if anyone can learn OsmAnd in one hour they deserve a gold clock, but I agree it's well worth spending time getting to know it if you are an outdoors person.

I love Osmand. Even when I switch from my Xperia 1 iii to iPhone 13 pro Max I also subscribe it.

How do you export a profile? I don't want to send a profile to a phone contact or some other app, it needs to go to storage.

Menu design of the software is confusing. Quite difficult to find certain settings in a rush. The app does not have the function to search for certain settings. Very steep learning curve indeed.

I tried the app. One local route - not the one I would choose , but close. Took me down stairs. I chose a longer - from Bergen to Ustaoset. Completely useless. This was a real hike-a-bike. It followed hiking trails and I would not bring a bike here. I have tried that route with other apps and got similar results. I guess planing for bike trips is not easy using apps. Better to talk to locals. Nice video .

I'm sure it's an outstanding app, but for a casual navigation app user like me I think it's way too complicated.

Exactly what I thought. Too much m@sturbation over a simple map that can be used on Google maps point and go (from a simple user perspective like myself)

Driving 2 hours to hike isnt something most people do in america. There are woods and country EVERYWHERE. No need for 'hiking trails'
@TheOneGoodRoad4 жыл бұрын
I disagree I know and have met many Americans who will drive 1-2 hours for a 1-2 hour walk which they could do as you say closer to where they live. Hiking trails means you have less traffic on your path.
