as an nVidia 1080Ti user, I'd like to point out these benchmarks needs to be taken with a grain of salt, because lack of VRAM on 4070 (12GB) may actually become major weakness compared to 16GB 7800XT in a way certain scenes/projects may not render at all, creators thinking about AMD should really consider 20GB 7900 XT or 24GB 7900 XTX if they know they're aiming for heavier/complex projects ps: it's a shame ASUS didn't make ProArt AMD gpus, they would look really nice imo :))

Me too, nvidia is far more greedy than amd, especially for vram. Very useful in large scenarios, with many objects and shaders. I recently got a 3080 10gb for 400€, because they can't be found in 12gb or if they are found they cost too much for me. At the usual price of the 3080 (used), or a little more I could have gotten a 6900xt/7800xt (used). 6 more gigabytes were useful, but on the softwares I use AMD doesn't work very well, UNFORTUNATELY

really good video, but one recomendation, I know that 3d artists generally use vray with another software like 3d max or similar, but for my field (architecture) other softwares are taking over and those are the real time render softwares, the most famous is lumion, that is like us 3000 the license, but now free (or very cheap) options exist like 5d render, twinmotion and enscape, and I don't see any reviewer try them and I have know several people that say those programs don't support AMD and get Nvidia cards, but according to their specifications they do support them, so if possible could you include them, they even have benchmarks and sample models that test the vram consumption

When it comes to encoding quality between the 2, Nvidia will have an edge bitrate to bitrate alone because of software maturity and integration, so that should make sense. But when it comes to AMD settings in say resolve, its really about the settings and configurations, many people use the exact same settings they use for Nvidia and onto AMD but that might not be the best approach, it is different hardware. Its also what people are doing, I find AMDs support for H.264 and albeit MP4 to be weaker then Nvidia but I contribute that to AMD just not caring about those 2, they went full in with HEVC/H.265 when not a lot of programs at the time provided that or supported AMD in that but did for Nvidia. AV1 is another one, take the free version of resolve, Nvidia AV1 isnt supported on that at all but AMDs is, and when you use the quality preset ( not fast as people recommend with the Nvidia option on the paid version ) then the quality is pretty decent for AMD with decent size. It is a bothersome one when it comes to encoding quality because the setting options you need to pick need to be different because they encoders behave differently I have found. I don't feel the AMD and Nvidia encoding settings have been explored much by any content creator as most tend to just own Nvidia to start with and a lot of Hardware testers don't explore options between the vendors either.

you can visualize encoder performance by subtracting the original video from the compressed video and what is left is the deviation from the original, that means compression artifacts.

great video, I almost didn't buy the 7800 XT because Adobe's website for supported GPUs for Premiere Pro had the 6800 xt, 7900xt, and 7900 XTX but did not list the 7800 XT...so I almost remove it from my list, then came across your video. The old Radeon H.264 encoder was inferior in video quality to GeForce nVenc at the same bitrate but now that they both use AV1, that difference should be gone.

Many people that complain about h264 are streamers and the platforms dont support AV1 for the most part. So they are stuck with h264/x264. Before AV1 h265 was already a good alternative where AMD had similar quality to Nvidia. (had worse performance tho)

I just bought the rtx 4070 with a 8 pin connector and undervolted it it uses 170-180W in cyberpunk with ray tracing and DLSS and FG on it get 105-120 fps with path tracing I get 67-80 fps.. but undervolting on a 12 pin seems to go lower then on my 8 pin.

IIRC Resolve 18.6 optimized magic mask, although it was only advertised tested on a 7900 XTX (they say '4x AI performance', idk what it's compared to). I've only seen the press release, and haven't seen any benchmarks

Looking at these performances, it's clear that AMD is the better choice for pretty much anything, but the difference in 3D is so massive compared to whatever advantage AMD had in the previous benchmarks, that it may make more sense to buy the nvidia anyway. what do you think?

optimisation differrence between optix api and hip-rt api is huge. this determines the blender test results. amd must take attention to 3d software compatibility. their cards much more powerful and cheaper but this software things bottlenecking them.

If AMD can catch up to Nvidia on encoding; I'll def consider them but thats the main thing I need for live streaming and recordings. I'm still using a 2080S for streaming and it works perfect. I would love to upgrade to a 4000 gpu for AV1 encoding but the Nvidia greed has kept me from making the upgrade.

AV1 encoding on the Radeon 7000 is exactly just as good as the NVIDIA RTX 4000 and also at the same bitrate.

AMD's h.245 and AV1 encoding is as good as nvidia's. nvidia is only better at h.264.

AV1 is currently only useful for videos. No streaming site really supports it, besides KZbin and even KZbin transcodes AV1 before giving the viewers an output. That simply shows how far away native AV1 support still is, when it comes to mass compatibility. But for videos, its great. In Davinci much better timeline-performance than h265 with comparable quality.

AMD really needs to get their act together because it's tiring seeing them falter when it comes to 3D or Animation stuff, for me at least. No idea what this Premiere pro test does. In reality palyback performance is better on 4070 than on 7900XTX by a huge margin. I was kinda thinking gifting my 7900XTX to my girlfriend who does video editing (I planned to buy 4090 instead) and she decided to keep 4070 :^) Still it is definetely better in DaVinchi Studio. Which Is used only to create proxies. Sometimes.

If you’re a Linux user then, the AMD card would most likely give you a better experience, over Nvidia, but if you use Windows the Nvidia is typically the way to go.

Regarding video recording it is more about how the individual adjusts their recording/streaming settings on the streaming/recording software that they use. It has less to do with the cards themselves with modern graphics cards. People need to know how to pick the proper resolution size, encoder type, recording format, rate control, setting, bitrate, etc. If any of these are set wrong it could hinder video quality. Also, If someone is recording content to use in video editing software then the person should record in a higher resolution due to compression loss. A popular streaming/recording software people use is OBS which has H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC) in the encoder option. I have a RX 6800 XT and it I find them useful. Not sure why people default to AV1 for the encoder. An example is if you want a 1440p video on KZbin then it would be good to record in 8k (4320p) then in the video editing software it would be shrunk to 4k (2160p) to maintain quality with the first stage of compression loss. When the video gets uploaded to KZbin there is another moment it ends up with compression loss leaving it at 2k (1440p) with no quality loss or 4k (2160p) with some quality loss.

Even though the amd card has better sores it doesnt remain stable like this all the time. Sometimes the programmes crashes and the gpu just can't handle it. Amd needs more driver uodates to improve stability.

Basically what I got from this video is as per usual, buy PC products based on use case, AMD has better raw gaming performance for cheaper, where as Nvidia has better encoding and slightly better features, but for a much higher price. There isn't really a one size fits all unless you wanna drop thousands on a 4090. Good video tho.

nvidia's encoding is only better at h.264. AMD is comparable with 265/AV1.

12VHPWR is such a mess I'd entirely avoid any GPU using it. Out of safety concerns. The connector melting could cause a fire if you're unlucky. Just not worth the risk

afaik, it's only a 4090 issue and even then, some of those who I know using a 4090 haven't suffered from any connector melting issue.

​@@Son37Lumiereyh that one is a problem for me I've heard people that use stable diffusion that 7900 xt and xtx that it performs quite decent but definitely not as good as nvidia mainly due to xformers and cuda people said it also performance better on linux than Windows with AMD and stable diffusion

Davinchi TLDR = Buy AMD If you do 8k, choose NVDIA wins, but who even does 8k. NVDIA has a slight 1% win on GPU Effects 3D like Blender etc.. just choose NVDIA. AMD = :(

The 7900 XT is faster than the 4070 ti in gaming and video work while being cheaper. Only reason nvidia wins at 3d is because the industry has adopted their proprietary cuda, most applications lack proper support for AMD.

i think the RTX 4070TI is the best one, but now the Super model is coming out in 2024 with 16GB of ram. I use the RTX 4070TI with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Having a 4070, 3090, 7800 XT and 7900 XTX, plus some others, I think both the 4070 and 4070 Ti are overpriced for the performance they offer creators. That memory amount and bandwidth is really limiting in my workflow and I kind of wish I hadn’t bought the 4070 and had just used the money for a used 3090 instead for Blender. For video editing, the 7800 XT is by far the best value in the $400-600 range. It’s not really close. If you’re spending more and do a lot of 3D editing, then I’d go 3090 instead of 4070. The pricing for any Nvidia model above that remains unreasonable at the moment.

​@level80888 they did improve photo editing and video editing performance, they recently added support of rocm for 6000/7000 but it is not better than nvidia but, the way I see amd is improving their GPUs, so one day sure amd can match Nvidia, just like AMD overtake Intel.
