Hi I watched a lot of grow light videos on KZbin...not many compare white vs blurple.....does it make a difference that the white lamp you ised is more narrow and the light is more concentrated on the centre of the plant? And the blurple light is spread across the whole tile and lihjt is spread across the whole plant. Thanks
@joshuarudd62973 жыл бұрын
It may make a difference initially but by the end of the grow the lettuce was large enough to receive most of the Blurple light. Good point though. I’ll probably do another test with same types of light. I just used what I had for now. Thanks for asking though!

Finally Straight to the point . Too many scientific youtube channels confusing me while comparing which is better. I saw another plant Enthusiasts and he said white can do just as good as ultraviolet sometimes even better with growth. All I wanted to know was could I use white cuz ultraviolet or Red hurt my eyes like crazy lol. Also White seems to use less wattage so better for the power bill! Thank you, you actually physically tested it.

Damn that’s crazzyyyyyy, I’m the complete opposite. Can’t stand white lights, they fully burn my eyes, meanwhile the purples are nice and easy on my sensitive eyes

Yeah thats understandable dude some people have different sensitivity towards different colour of lights. Actually I learnt the LED grow Lamps I bought is kind of white but warm with yellows.:) @@BLIND_BEAR

EXCELLENT video. I’m new to all of this. I purchased the purple lights for growing flowers last year. I hate the color but I’ll use them again this year($$$). I still need to learn the difference between the regular “shop light” and the white grow light. “They” say the shop lights are just as good as grow lights - that doesn’t make sense! 🌸

Loved the video. Would say you should weigh the roots and leaf separately etc. Overall while some differences I'd say they were negligible and I know one reason to avoid blurple is to more easily diagnose disease

right, Lettuce is a short crop of only a month grow or so. the longer the crop, the more differences there will be.

The science of spectrum efficiency proves that a mixed spectrum is the most efficient. That mix should comprise10-20% blue spectrum and the rest can be made of either red or green as they are both very similar . a general but scientifically accurate guide is blue light inhibits cell expansion green light helps us see red light is highly efficient at photosynthesis far red enhances cell expansion they all are useful in photosynthesis i think red is about 15% better from memory

You shoukd really have measured that blurple light too to get the right distance. If you put the blurple too close it won't likely burn but they can stunt the grow or make it bushy if the plant doesn't have to reach a bit. I have a diff light and stuff but mine is almost 3 ft away from my plants I'm not growing lettuce tho
@cyruslever586 Жыл бұрын
By stunt growth I mean it will grow a whole bunch of smaller leaves rather than less but bigger leaves.

No offence but you have confused watts with watt-hours in the results section under the section where you multiple the power of the lights (In Watts) by the duration of the on time (hours). Watts is just a word that means energy per time. One watt is 1 joule of energy per second. One watt-hour is 3600 Joules of energy. By multiplying Watts by time, the result is energy. If you report watts x time = watts, then you're comparing power instead of energy. Just for an analogy, its like saying you drove at a speed of 60 miles per hour (~100 kmph in metric world) for five hours and the distance you covered was 300 mph. It does make sense because mph is not a distance. The distance you covered was 300 miles. Ok hopefully not too confusing. Thanks for the video!

Off topic from the video, why do you grow hydroponic? Is it for health reasons? Is it to minimize bugs and disease? Does hydroponic food grow faster? Tastes better? I just started gardening outdoors in plastic grow bags. I gave growing both romaine and iceberg lettuce a shot. I found, in plastic bag, the lettuces was needed water often, as much as three times a day. When I cut my iceberg lettuce open I had a few bugs and a little leaf rot. But nothing that could be cut out or rinsed off. I can not make financial since of growing lettuce indoors unless it is for personal reasons. Do you mind sharing why you do it? Thanks.

Purple is an outdated system where LED technology was lacking. There were only a few colors of LED such as blue and red. Today LEDS come in all colors so purple is no longer relevant

@@cyruslever586 personally I hate blurple lights but not because they don't work. it just doesn't make sense to use them when highly efficient full spectrum ones are available . each to their own.
@Barcodez5555 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuarudd6297 I don't think that's actually true.... most lights even full spectrum ones are mostly red and blue, manafacters such as blackdog led add just enough "white light" so it doesn't irritate the eyes... but the spectrum is still mostly red and blue, this is because they are the most efficient wavelengths that plants use... orange and green light are inefficient... also red and blue are cheaper to produce and more readily available, the best light is red and blue, with just enough green and orange, but not too much.... you should also you should measure ppfd... not lux, this is a better measure of a grow light.....
