Best Gt56 Settings for Sidevu/ Side Imaging

Its finally here! my side imaging settings video for Garmin's Gt56 transducer.
This transducer amazes me more and more each time it take it out.
These are the settings that i use to help me spot the crucial structure and fish that puts more fish in the boat!

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Good information! I am gathering as much knowledge as I can in this venture. I just picked up a 126sv w/ gt54 and already looking into the ins and outs versus the 56. I am getting a LVS 34 scope was the main purpose for my boat . I usually am less then 70’ depth range.

Great video Question i am upgrading. The lakes i fish in central iowa are not very deep. I would say deepest one i fish is 30 to 40’feet. Should i get the GT56 or get a gt54 at very discounted rate right now?

Max depth varies on bottom hardness you said so does a harder or softer bottom give you more depth?

Well depth, and more importantly the range to the side. But the harder the bottom the more range you can typically get away with. Softer bottoms don’t return as bright and “absorb” (I’m sure that’s not the right terminology for it) more of the signal.

If you are referring to waypoints those are stored on the unit (unless you have transferred them to a as card from another unit) But if you didn’t do a factory reset, they should still be there

Which transducer, and could you send me some pictures? You could have a couple of things going on. Either the motor is in the way which is super common, or you might possibly have a bad transducer element

It’s a Gt54 I don’t think it’s the outboard as it’s worked before and I’ve tried trimming it up. I’ll have to get some pics

Would this work with a GPSMAP 1022XSV? I understand the connector should work, but can the 1022XSV make use of the higher resolution at all or is it better to get the 54? Thanks!

No unfortunately it can not. You would need a 943/1243/8610xsv etc to take advantage of the uhd transducers. If you are interested I take units in on trade towards purchase of new

HMM that should be up there by default. Go into your overlays and see if its turned off???

How do you have your transducer mounted? Have you ran into any issues with the sidevu singal being blocked?

My transducer is mounted on the transom on the starboard side. The lower leg when trimmed all the way down will block the left side(very common) and so will the lower leg of my kicker unless I trim them both up slightly.

Hey buddy i just got a 106 and have a question, so when a restart the unit some settings go back to default like depth and brightness is this normal? I was told this is normal for garmin and that you have to adjust few settings every time you go out on the water is this true? I come from humminbird and everything i changed in settings stayed in the memory even if the battery die. Hope you can help me thanks.

Yes that’s normal. A couple of the settings will go back to auto.

I will be doing a video for down imaging as well and will be covering that exact question. But since you commented (very much appreciated!) I’ll fill you in now. I honestly get great images out of 810 on down imaging. I rarely ever use 1070 on down because I dedicate that frequency to my side imaging. If you would like shoot me a message on my Facebook page and I’ll show you a pic or two of what 810 will do. The other reason I don’t use 1070 on down imaging is that i really only run down imaging to verify what the 2d is showing me. Meaning if I see some arches stacked up I’ll look at the DI to make sure it’s fish and not a tree branch or something else in the water. And 810 does a great job of that. I assume I could get better detail out of 1070 on down imaging but I for what I do side imaging is the main priority Hope that helps guys! Thanks for watching

What depth are you trying to side image in and struggling? For me it’s most effective in the 5-150’ range but there are guys that use it in 200-300’+ But there are catches at those depths.

I'm in western NY, so most places I'm walleye fishing 15 to a max of 75,80. I just upgraded to the 93uhd. I'm gonna try these setting and see if it's easier to identify fish. But it's a struggle for me

@@jdizzy941 these setting will work for you till around 50-60’ depending on bottom harness maybe even further. Around those depths you can switch to 800khz. Most important thing is keeping side imaging and down imaging on different frequencies with the gt56. Also for the 9” screen, you can tighten up your range. This will “magnify” things on the screen a little bit.

I have an Ultra102sv with GT56 transducer. I don't have an option for frequency on sv/cv menu only on the traditional menu. Is there something I need to do to get the frequency option for sv/cv?

Lol. No. I thought the same thing. However, I did a reset and they are showing know. When I first initiated the unit I didn't have the transducer attached. Maybe that's what caused it.

What depths are you fishing in? I fish in upto around 200’ at the most. And in those depths I don’t use side imaging. (You can but would have to be in 455khz) I use 2d mainly. I do have some screen shots in about 125’ with side imaging. The gt56 covers a lot of depths of water. It just all depends on where you fish

So thats why Im asking u, i Dont think i Will need a 50/200 transduter. If the clear view ( at 1000khz) and the 2D works fine at those depts, thats mostly what Im looking for.

@@joaomarques2971 2d will have no issue at those depths. Down imaging on 1070 might not work the best but honestly 810 kHz should do the job and is just as clear in my opinion. You could also easily use 810khz side imaging in those depths.

I took my sv73 uhd/ gt56 setup out today on my kayak. The store bought transducer mount sucks really bad. It allows the transducer to wag back & forth like some kind of salmon trolling lure rofl. So I am gonna make something out of aluminum to sturdy it up. Because my results really sucked. I spent 5 hours today looking at fuzz. Quite disappointed!

I use the factory mounts with no issue. I honestly prefer the factory plastic mount to the metal ones as they “break away” in the event something does strike the transducer.

@@MGMarineTech Okay picture an adjustsble plastic arm on a "scotty post" coming off of the starboard side of my kayak & going into the water. Thats what I'm referring to. I'm trying that route before looking elsewhere. Ideally I think a a scupper mount would be best but I can't find anything for sale. That would put the unit directly under me in a recessed part of the hull.

Your settings can vary from hour to hour and on different bodies of water and even different areas of the lake. Use some of the tips to help dial your unit in for your body of water. That will greatly help you.

I haven’t personally seen, but I’ve been told by others that it’s right on par with HB mega + G4N stuff. People will always say one is better than the other etc etc, From what I’ve seen online they are VERY similar, beauty of the garmin is how user friendly everything is as well as customer service etc.

I flip my transducer up every time I put the boat on the trailer. I literally just eyeball it every time when I flip it down. A few degrees off up or down won’t be noticeable.

Gt56 is 1070/810/455 for side imaging frequencies. Are you sure you have a gt56 and not the gt54?
