Great video. I can’t wait to visit Carthage one day.

Thank you! I was looking for a video on KZbin that would show me most of the main sites in Carthage and didn't find what I was seeking. I figured I would just make the kind of video that I wanted to see.

Wow, so much beautiful history in Carthage! I think in 13 minutes you taught me more about this area than I ever learned in any classroom, book or TV show. I'm shocked by how many structures, or portions of, are still remaining. I was surprised by the Roman cisterns too. So neat.

I agree with you! I was able to learn so much just from being on the ground and making my way around all of the archaeological sites. I hope others find it as interesting as we do.

Well presented, very informative and succinct. I think you could probably make a longer form video on this topic.

Thank you so much for saying that! I couldn't find a video that gave me much information about the various sites at Carthage, so I made my own.

Great video and backgrounder on Carthage and the subsequent Roman rule, the shown ruins continue to evoke and fascinate the mind with her magnificent grandeur. Thank you for sharing.

Just...wow! You have been to some amazing places, but I think this might top them all for me. The baths, the cisterns, the homes...And I would LOVE to attend a performance in the theater! Great video!

So glad that you liked it! I was afraid that this video would have very limited appeal, as it is focused on a very specific part of ancient history.

Great video. Sad so little is left from the Carthaginians and even from Phoenicians themselves. Carthage, Rome and Greece were the rulers of the Mediterranean but very little is seen from Carthaginians. Thanks to Rome who considered Carthage as their biggest Threat.

Thank you! I had a great time wandering around all of the sites in Carthage. It is a shame that most of the older ruins have been lost forever.

Nice video. I live there in Byrsa and how can I explain it. This is the first time that I learn about the Amphitheatre, which is like a 5 minutes walk from where I live. That's how "casual" the ruins are treated here. We all know about Carthage and see the ruins here and there, and the whole country knows about the Roman Theater because it hosts a big pop festival in Summer, but smaller things like that, if they're not on a main road or something, or if there isn't any visible sign (and usually there aren't), you just miss that stuff. Anyway maybe tomorrow I'll go visit it for the first time. And speaking of the Theater, Robert Plant & the Strange Sensation played there in 2006.

Thank you for the comments! I understand how it can happen that we miss some of the amazing things that are present where we live. I wish it didn't happen like that, but it does.

one does not see often the ruins of Carthago. thank you! where the author is wrong however is that the vandals destroyed Carthage. in contrary they specifically lived the Roman ways. in the 6th century the city and province of Africa was re captured by the Roman empire. 698 it was captured by the umayyad califate.
@oldaloneandfarfromhome9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the clarity! I read a lot on the internet to pull together my information. I must have relied on poor source material (or misunderstood) in regard to the action taken by the Vandals.
@karimjerbi70844 ай бұрын
Carthage was an important city during vandal rule, so they didn't destroy it, post 3rd punic war romans and Islamic Invaders did lay waste to the city, most damage is due to reuse of stone and columns, either by rulers or the people. The Kairaoun mosque has many latin inscriptions on its walls, due to the stone not being quarried but taken from other buildings. Its a shame that very few studies are on going.

Why do you confuse everything with a musical background that makes it hard to hear/understand your narration? I had to turn on captions and turn off sound.

I'm so sorry that you found the music to be too loud. I always try to strike a balance. Maybe I missed the mark this time.

Carthage wasn't destroyed by the vandals. In fact, they made it the capital of their kingdom until it was conquered by the byzantines. It was the arabs that destroyed it and relocated the center of power of the region to nearby Tunis

How about you show some humility and then you learn how the Romans were incredible builders. Carthage thrived during Roman rule. And Roman Africa was very urbanised and a rich agricultural exporter.
