I'm an old woman now, since I was a child I remember that Cebu has the best guitar maker in the Philippines, I used to play guitar during my teenage years.

I got one made in Cebu when I went home in 2000. Now after 23 years and counting the quality in appearance and sound still the same. Watching from California.

Thank you Tal for recognizing the guitars made in Lapulapu. They’ve been around for years I can’t keep count. Lilang’s guitar is one of them, too. So proud to say, they’ve come a long ways.

that ukelele version of the song "never on sunday" by the chordettes is quite outstanding 👏 never thought i could hear something like that -- it has an "out of this world" dimension to his ukelele musicality not sure if the guy has already made a recording or an album for his music 'coz it's truly beyond spectacular now i appreciate ukelele music even more

Another famous guitar maker is the Lumanog brand of Pampanga, I got one from their Sta. Mesa outlet, a travel guitar based off the Martin Backpacker. When you were in NYC, I thought about giving it to you, so you will have something to remember the Philippines by once u are back in FLA, thinking you will never go back to Pilipinas but I never made it to the meet and greet. Very nice I have to visit this place if I make it to Cebu one day. I also read that the custom made guitars from Pampanga are as good as Yamaha's finest. I think you should compare Cebu Vs. Pampanga made instruments.

No.1 guitar maker naman talaga sa Pinas at wala nang iba. Kaso, sa mga hindi marunong pumili at kumilatis ng magaling na pagka gawa ng gitara tulad sa akin..ingat lang. Bumili ako dyan sa Opon, Cebu mga 1994 noon. Pag uwi ko mga weeks until months ang lumipas, nag bend(a concave bend) ang Fingerboard ng gitara na nag resulta sa pag angat nang husto ng mga strings mula sa mga frets..ang layo na hìndi na maka play! Nagtanong ako, ang dahilan pala ay dahil not properly or not thoroughly dried pala ang wood bago ginawa, ginamit, at ikinabit sa body ng gitara! I know its an isolated case but, just beware.

Good quality guitar should be at least dried for 6 years before it can be used

Hope your new ukulele has a good quality sound since you wanted them rush. For guitars alone, it takes long time for about 6 years to age or dry up the wood in order to obtain a good quality sound. Not sure on ukuleles how long maybe 4 years? will it take to age the wood before it can be used. The quality of wood takes only 40% but the rest 60% depends on how skilled and knowledgeable the luthier is in producing a good tonal sound. The best ukulele you can find are made from Hawaii as you well know of but it’s expensive
