One of the best reviews! If raining when setting up install rainfly/tarp BEFORE opening snakeskin. After waking up one morning in the Amazon i found 4" of water under my jungle hammock and my friends in their tents gone. I had a good dry nite's sleep but they were miserable and covered in mud. Great for forested areas, just make sure ur arm/leg does not rest on the netting in mosquito infested areas.

I just got them this morning! I didn't realize they simply slip on! I've spent all day out in my Hennessy :) I absolutely love it. Thanks for uploading this video. It helped a bunch! Cheers!

Nice review I plan to buy the Expedition Deluxe from Hennessy but I am torn between the bottom entry or the zipper entry. I do like that it has the built in bug mesh as a lot of the places I go can get pretty bad with mosquitoes during the summer months.

That sleeping pad looks great with the heat reflection! A must in a hammock on cold nights.

You actually can sit or lay on top of the hammock outside of the screen. It is described how in the video on the home page of the Hennessy website. You would remove the string on one side, fold it up over the screen and sit down the lay back.

After using one of these for a few years I have a few tips. Your hammock should be higher and tighter. Underquilts are warmer and convienient. You are using a Hex tarp. Hennessy says because of the wind load, this fly should be tied directly to trees with strong polyester cords provided. Hanging the tarp higher than the hammock also gives you room to stand up out of the rain.

Thanks for checking out the video. The song that's playing in the background is something I put together specifically for the reviews. Within a month or so, I'll put the songs up as separate videos so kind folks like you can enjoy them and probably even download them. Keep checking the channel for updates :)

Thanks for the vid. You can leave the tarp on the hammock and roll them both into the snakeskins. also try to pull the thing a bit tighter so the netting ridgeline is holding the netting straight. it will make it hang better and you will sleep better.

To go on trails and sleep alone, I prefer my hammock. Shelter areas are usually on slopes which won't matter with the hammock. It's also very small and very light to hike with. On campgrounds I prefer Hooligan 2, mainly because on campground you get to with your car. This way you can bring air mattress, proper quilt, and just rest better.

I have the Safari Deluxe and when it is set up the ridge line is tighter then you had yours. I found that a 3/8th in thick mat under me is just fine when laying on it and having a bag over me. I got tired of the end entry and got a Clark Tropical which you can enter from either side. Right after that Tom Hennessy made his hammocks with side entry zippers. I enjoy the side entry , it is like sitting in a chair getting in or out of the hammock.I use either hammocks depending on where I will be.

I wish I could tell you. I got it at a thrift store many years ago. It doesn't have a tag or anything like it, just a couple of names of previous owners that have been scratched over. I'd like to believe it seen some overseas action decades ago.

Nice Vid, I attached a #3 zipper along the edge of the bug netting using double sided tape from 3m9485 or use similar, once attached, then you cut it using a hot knife attachment from a solder iron. Have fun Cheers

Great review & great videos, thank you! But I wish the video had shown you getting into and lying in the hammock as well as rating how it fared for you overnight in the cold with your gear. Also some footage from inside showing what it is like being inside would be great!! Keep up the great work!

It's very easy. I did it in my room without hanging the hammock out. Same way as you put on socks you would put the snake skin on each end of the hammock :)

nope :) it can take up as much time to set up the hammock as the tent but at the end of the day what matters most is the weight and size of the hammock comparing to a tent. Also the comfort. In winter, last thing one wants is to be on the ground. Being up in the air minimizes chances of getting cold from bottom (if* insulated properly).

I've been looking into buying a new sleeping bag but ran into trouble with the temperature rating system. For example, one sleeping bag might say it's designed for 10F but a lot of reviews would say it's still too cold to sleep in that temperature even with thermals and wool. And that is EXACTLY what happened with me and these 2 bags. It says it's good for 35F but even in 50F its still too cold.

Not too claustrophobic and actually, pretty damn comfy! In warm weather it feels like being in the tent (especially with a tarp over it).

Hey nice vid. I doing the app trail next march and I've decided on using the hennessy hyperlite. I was trying to figure out which to buy, that is the zippered version or the velcro. You sure cleared that matter up for me. Thanks, I will be buying a zippered hammock.

I've had similar problems with the rating system. Things are only made worse when you have to consider the different qualities of the down that are used. (one of my old bags leaked down like a sieve, and every morning I'd look like I'd just murdered 5 geese in my hammock/bivi) Still, with enough research into what the 'R' ratings really mean, you shouldn't go too far astray. I stand by my down sleeping bag with an underquilt / inflatable mat, and I don't think I'd ever go back to anything else.

Although I haven't had experience with the zipper hammock from Hennessy.. chances are it's going to be more convenient than this Velcro version. Good luck on the trail & stay safe!!

Hi. Ive bought one of these hammocks a year or so ago for hiking. Havent been game enough to actually use it yet mainly because you need trees. Have you thought of a way to set it up on ground? I think i have a decent way but just havent had a go yet. Love to hear your thoughts

Here is how one person added the zipper, search user convert2010 and his Hennessy modification part 1 vid...it didn't let me put link in here. (There is bunch of other modifications too but also the zipper) I also read from some site that you could send the hammock to hennessy and they would add the zipper on it. Don't know how much they charge from that but it's one option.

Hi, I just bought my Hennessy, and I haven't opened it yet. I've also purchased my snakeskins, but they're still being shipped to me. I was wondering how you initially set up the snakeskins to receive the hammock? Is it something that's easy to figure out when it comes? Or is there something I should know?

The whole point of a hammock is to get off of cold ground. In your case I'd recommend sticking to the tent. However, the only other option would be is to rig something up with your trekking poles. Check out this video tutorial: watch?v=Jw87xQWBv-4 Let us know how it went!
@OutWithMyGear

Just tie it to the tree the best you can and hope not to end up on the ground at 3AM. Also would help to clear the ground of any rocks or sticks under the hammock in case of fall. A video on how to start a fire you say? hmm, perhaps... but that'll probably happen next week or so.

2 sleeping bags?! If you're out buying a sleeping bag for your hammock - get a decent down sleeping bag with a temperature rating to suit the environment you'll be camping in. My Mountain Equipment Xero 250 packs away to roughly half the size of one of your sleeping bags, and I don't need to faff around with a blanket then either... It's all I need for most of the year, and if it gets too cold I'd change to my warmer sleeping bag... I'd also substitute the mat for an underquilt, but hey ho...

That was my main concern when purchasing it but I was reassured by both, the sales person at a camping store and by using it that the folds will not rip. It's a well made pad!
