I tried to make another kick-tail, but I'm having problems with some extra noise at the very end of it. I think the problem doesn't lie on the filters, but I'm not really sure. Are there some kind of way to work around this problem?
@ScreechHouse7 жыл бұрын
Normally you can simply cut off the end of the tail when you make a sample. The noise is probably caused by one (or multiple) of your effect instances, like the waveshaper. Because of the way you set it, it causes a slight offset, creating a bit of output signal without you even playing the kick. But when you distort that offset later on, the effect gets exaggerated, probably creating dirty noise. What you can do to find the effect that causes it: keep all the effects enabled and disable them 1 by 1 and look at the volume meter of your insert channel (on the mixer). If the volume signal disappears, you found the effect. In general it's not a problem though, unless it messes up your kick. Just cut off the the noise from the tail when making a sample.

@ScreechHouse2 жыл бұрын
Ah, my bad I made it confusing. The initial kick is synthesized with the 3x Osc. There is no sample in the plugin. The starting sound doesn't matter that much. The magic happens in the effects chain on the mixer. So, if you can't replicate it, don't sweat it. Just use any synthesizer or sample that has a clean 909-like sound.

@ScreechHouse7 жыл бұрын
Do you use the pitch envelope to create the initial punch? If you do, then it's probably a matter of EQing, distorting in certain ways and may be applying a compressor to create a snappy tick in the beginning. It's very easy to go overboard with the effects and mess up a tail. It happens to me quite a lot as well. Not every tail is a winner... simply start over and try again. Hope this helps.

Hm, yes, that is weird! What you could do is go to: File > New from template > Minimal > Empty (make sure you pick the empty template) If that doesn't solve your problem, it might have to do with some FL Studio settings or your Audio settings. Very hard to know for sure.

How did you get the kick into 3x cause it’s not working for me
@ScreechHouse2 жыл бұрын
The kick is not in the 3x Osc. The 3x Osc is a synthesizer and generates a simple audio signal. This signal has been send to the mixer. On the mixer you can add a bunch of effects (equalizers, distortions, etc.) to process the audio signal and create a hardstyle kick.
@abstractn0275 жыл бұрын
I tried to rebuild this multiple times but every time something goes wrong between the first Reeverb2 and the second WaveShaper: as I apply WaveShaper with these same settings the result is just slightly off with less "note" sound. Obviously if I keep going the final result will be completely different just because of this minimal detail. I'm using FLS10 so it's possible that the VST algorythms are slightly different and I can't get the exact same sound with the same settings. Also I'm making everything inside a Patcher so I can bring everything together in different projects with only one preset.
@ScreechHouse5 жыл бұрын
I get what the problem is and what many people struggle with when they try to replicate a very specific sound. If you want to replicate it exactly, you have to copy all the settings perfectly, which is sometimes hard to do, but should be possible. However, I advise NOT to replicate it. I advice playing around with the strategies and not copying it. By replicating something, you don't understand it. By experimenting and building your own kick, you will gain the understanding of the hardstyle-kick game. Feel free to watch some of my other hardstyle kick tutorials to see the same strategies in action with a different outcome. I recently released a brand new video with 10 essential hardstyle kick tricks that you can now watch.

in the step where you added the second wave shaper (2:23) i did the same thing but it starts distorting a lot (too much). do you know what the problem is?

Hard to tell. Can be anything. Generally, it's how extreme you set your waveshaper to distort the sound. Can you recheck all the settings again? Or may be one of the settings of the other effects are slightly different, so this waveshaper distortion reacts a little bit differently.

It's good that you have a regular sine wave, because that's also how the kick in this video starts. Yet, if you don't have a punch at the start of this sine wave, you may want to look at the pitch envelope. Giving the pitch envelope a short decay time (close all other parameters), produces the punch. Thereby, don't forget to open the AMT parameter.

I would try to find the setting on the phaser that causes it. So, enable the phaser and tweak its settings until the high frequency disappears. Then you have an idea where the problem is. Though, if you can't figure it out, don't sweat it. A phaser is not mandatory.

Hey dude, little problem over here... once i enable the first waveshaper, i get a horribly annoying reverb... any idea on how to fix this?
@ScreechHouse5 жыл бұрын
Usually, a distortion enhanced the signal quite a bit. If you have a lot of reverb before the distortion unit, it may enhance/distort the reverb too much. On the same note, a distortion can generate additional noise, especially when you off-center the soundwave. So, that could be a reason for your problem as well.

After making the kick into a sample its pitch doesn't change on the piano roll...help?
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, that happens sometimes when you use a sample in FL Studio. What you have to do it go to the "Time stretching" settings of the sampler. Then fully close the TIME knob. The time stretching functions can control the pitch of your kick, making it sound the same on each note on the Piano Roll. It's like it overrules the Piano Roll with certain settings.

Really loving the sound but no matter how much i try and how closely i follow the tutorial I just can not get the souind right... I redid it 3 times, really following every single tweak exactly and after the very first Waveshaper it starts sounding different and in the end it's just shit... happy for a solution
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, that's odd. When you copy all the settings exactly, it should sound exactly the same. Something must go wrong. I would say that at the very first moment it starts to sound differently, you found yourself the problem. You say it's the waveshaper, which is possible, but keep in mind that a distortion unit (like the waveshaper) applied quite aggressively emphasizes the signal. So it could very well be that the signal is already slightly different before it enters the waveshaper. The waveshaper then simply makes it much more present/audible. Hope that helps a little bit. There's just not enough information to really point out what the problem is. If everything is the same, it should sound the same, I'm sure of that.

I don't actually know why, but my 3xOsc with your same parameters isn't a "kick"... What am I doing wrong?
@ScreechHouse5 жыл бұрын
Most likely, the parameters aren't replicated exactly. I know this can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but just try again from a fresh start. Take it step by step and make sure everything is correct. However, a better way of going about it is just to focus on the bigger picture. You don't have to copy this, but try to understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. This way of thinking is what you inevitably need to be successful.

You can do that when you make a sample of your kick. In FL Studio you can simply use the sampler and use the MUL knob (it's probably best if you put it on monophonic). When you want to pitch the final kick for different notes underneath your melody, there are many options to time stretch your kick. You can use Adobe Audition, Edison, or just within the FL Sampler.

Usually when you have a tiny noise signal going on and apply some distortion(s) the effect gets much more prominent, until there's too much noise. The noise is probably logical because of some distortion settings, but sometimes hard to find where it comes from. What you can do is disabling your effects only 1 at a time, until you find the effect that causes the distortion. Usually it's a distortion unit, like the waveshaper, that has some asymmetry or "noise generating values" going on. See if you can find it and fix it.

Oh... And I forgot... my kick is just playing around with pitch... if I play the same not like 5times in a row it goes up or down some pitches...
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
Hm, very hard to tell what went wrong. I know it can be hard sometimes to catch every little setting and model it. The only thing you can do is start over and try to model it again. Once the sound goes differently from the sound in the video (I enable all the effects 1 by 1), you have found the problem. It's not a nice answer, but that's part of this game sometimes. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Why cant i copy this correctly?
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
I don't know, but there seem to be more people having problems with this. There are just many settings, if you miss one or two it can already sound different (depending on the setting and where it is in the chain). Anyways, you don't have to copy it exactly. It's not important. It's about the strategy. You have to practice it a little bit to get a "feel" for this type of chain building.

Sorry, I won't do that. I invite you to use the video as an example (I show everything in there) and build your own kicks. That would be much more helpful in the long run. :-) P.S. Thanks for this awesome tutorial, I headjumped into FL Studio yesterday and am just trying out all kinds of different things. I always wondered on how make hardstyle and i didnt think you'd have to make the kick all yourself. Well, i tried it out and until the third or fourth filter it actually sounded like somewhat a hardstyle kick, after adding more it only got worse and worse. Any idea what I could do better? Here i recorded it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoC8p5KumZlsfNU At some point it just souded as if i played it in a huge af empty room lol
@ScreechHouse7 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Thanks! I'm glad it's helpful. For the most part, building a hardstyle kicks isn't easy. It takes practice and a lot of failures to get there. But it's fun! When I watch your video I see 2 main things that you could fix: - The waveshapers need to be adjusted to generate more distortion. Just play around with the slopes and experiment with some extreme settings (just to get a feel for it). - I think the Fruity Love Philter has a 100% wet filter sweep enabled. Generally you want it to have 50% wet or so. To do that, you'll also need to enable another filter, but set it to "Off". Then the signal will just pass through without being effected. Hope this helps! Just experiment with these things first.

It's definitely good feedback. The video is made a while ago and this is what I decided to do back then. It's hard to draw the line between what people know and what people don't know. Everyone is somewhere else in their understanding. If I have to cover everything step by step, some videos will take hours. But by people giving feedback (like you), I can learn what you actually need/want in a video. So, keep it up!

can you just give us a flp? i mean i never get it right
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
I really understand it can be a long journey, but come on... FL projects are personal creations. You can watch everything in the video, there are even a couple kick videos you can watch. They're all different. There is no 1 way ticket to a hardstyle kick, just practice with the principles. I think that the mentally of looking to be spoon-fed isn't the road to long term success. I love to help (that's why I share all this stuff), but spoon-fed options should either be payed (so you're 100% serious about really wanting it), or they shouldn't be provided at all. They don't necessarily help you to get what it takes to become the best producer. To end this little bit of a rant, I really DO understand your frustration. It just takes time and sometimes you just want to get it right to continue with your song and ideas. May be I'll make a entire kick building course in the future, to show the whole process (can take multiple hours). For now, just watch some of my other kick videos. You will get there!

@@ScreechHouse Got it! ^^ Also, it happens to be like, how to mix/EQ the kick so it cannot drown or be drowned by the other synth?
@ScreechHouse5 жыл бұрын
There are multiple different things that can go wrong, that's why I've written the EDM Mixing Guide. You can obtain it via this link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07BHW11CB For the kick however it's usually the balance that's not there. It has to have a snappy attack with some highs and the lows need to be tight. If the kick is good, the other elements can ruin it a little bit if you don't mix them properly. Usually, removing some of the low end in the other elements is a good idea.

@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
Technically it is made with a synth. It's very hard to tell what went wrong without any information. The only thing I can say is: just look at each effect again 1 by 1. Small changes can result in big changes in the end result. If you set everything exactly the same, it should result in this type of tail.

You cant pitch kicks like that...Sounds not good :/
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
This isn't how you pitch kicks. I will have some tutorials coming up for that. In the video I only used some different keys to show that you can play around like that and get a feel for the crunchiness or tone of the kick.

dammit... it's hard. i really fucked up many times
@ScreechHouse6 жыл бұрын
That's part of the process. I also often mess up or start over again. Just try to add effects 1 by 1 and try to get your hardstyle kick a little bit more hardstyle-ish with every effect you add.

Screech House well.. I just figured out but I haven't input all of the effects. I just input some of them. but when I turn em all on, it sounds like earrape meme ×~×)

Lol, you probably have some of your effects set to a too aggressive state. It's hard to tell really. Try to use common sense. Look at it 1 effect at a time and when it starts to sound like ear raping, just back off with that effect.

It's only the tail part of the kick and not finished. It sure is not optimal. Try to focus on the methods in this video, rather than the particular result. It's difficult for me these days to make quality hardstyle kicks. I've moved abroad, just working on a laptop. Of course, if I have anything useful, you will definitely find it on this channel.
