This scenario seriously terrifies me. Not the anti xenophobic stuff, Humanities first all the way. AI terrifies me. That fact that because someone agreed with the politician it locked Suits, locked doors, and took away some generals powers. All that and then allowed the guards to massacre everyone. The AI could’ve stopped their suits like the other 3 guards

@Subjagator
@Subjagator Жыл бұрын
It didn't lock the suits because they agreed with the politician. It locked the suits because they refused to follow the order to arrest them. Huge difference. If a soldier refuses to follow order then they are relieved or arrested. There are already rules and procedures in place for that exact kind of thing, the only difference with it being an AI is they can do it in a much more coordinated manner. In real life if a general decided to break the law or side with someone who was breaking the law then they would eventually be removed from any position of power and authority, the AI in this story just did it faster than we ever could do it now.

Being complicit in genocide carries a death sentence at that level of government because it is their job to represent their constituents not cave to vague threats of an ideologically possessed extremist. Their job is to say no in the face of adversity. Cowards are the reason so many atrocities have happened in human history. They permitted the extremists to do as they pleased knowing full well they were committing treason by turning against their constituents. Also treason carries a death sentence on top of voting for genocide.

There was more than one dissenter, but only one with the courage to express it in the vote. However given the stakes, genocide on human colonies. Little pity is due those cowards, they had a moral responsibility as delegates to uphold human rights. They chose their own survival over millions, followed a maniac. This story was absolutely awful. We are told nothing about the events leading up to this situation we do not know if the dropping of the Genevra convention would be against the fluffy love cats or murder crabs who rip childrens limbs off for their own amusement. Then we have an AI saying everyone who did not vote the way we wanted should be arrested. We have no idea of what the ai is and how it fits into the political system if at all. Then the guard captain goes nah I'm just going to kill them all and also execute anyone who does not want to participate in the massacre of a bunch of mostly unarmed noncombat personnel which is really hypocritical on the guard captains part. In political systems you should decentralised power for instance in the us (not America but most people know a bit about American politics because your foreign policy is our foreign policy) you have the presidency, the house, the senate and the supreme court for just the federal government. Legislation will need to pass through multiple branches to get accepted to prevent extreme legislation to pass without executing entire branches of government on a whim.

Some more context would be helpful. I'm guessing the extreme xenophobia on Earth is due to past wars. If you assume the aliens were the aggressors, and that humanity suffered greatly that would explain the hate. After the war, perhaps some colonies chose to try to reconcile rather than become isolationist. Humans and xenos that both want peace. This would create tension between the Reconciliationists and the Isolationists. The Secretary probably tried to bring them back into Earth's fold, maybe even offered generous terms, but Earth would require that they expel the xenos from any human majority colonies. This would of course be unacceptable to the colonies, as they've likely lived with the xenos for generations by this point, and worked hard to put old grudges and prejudices behind them. It's a critical part of their identity and value system. As for the wisdom of giving an AI veto and judicial authority, no system is perfect. Even the US with one of if not the best constitutions routinely tramples it's citizens rights, such as civil asset forfeiture and qualified immunity. Perhaps the UN, at a time when human rights were widely revered, foresaw this inevitable corruption and instituted the AI as a failsafe. It wouldn't be allowed to order irreversible punishments like execution, in case the AI made a judgment error. It would however act if the assembly egregiously betrayed the principles they were intended to uphold, such as the Geneva Conventions. As long as the assembly's corruption was moderate, the AI would only assist in assembly operations. It's safeguard may have been set centuries prior, so by the time a genocidal maniac could gain popular support, most people have forgotten about the safeguard, assuming it ever was public knowledge.

The only thing that can happen after this coup is that the military declares martial law and a military junta takes power. If it were the admirals and generals who supported this war it will still happen. He may have had supporters within the military but only a fool thinks he/she has total control of a military, when the military gets sent to murder its own peoples sure there will be the jobsworths who delight in following those orders but there is a vast majority who will refuse and you either get civil war within the military or a war where the military who sided with the people win outright as they have the backing of the people and as such can replace losses, (the military and the people are one any general who forgets that rule ends up shot by his own soldiers), now as for you declaring a genocidal maniac a hero wow you need to look at yourself to come to terms with that one.

AI wasn't corrupted, did it's job as it was designed to do, the politicians broke the law, the AI Recorded, analysed and ordered the Arrest of those who broke the law, the Security Commander shut out the AI from the Operation to put his interpretation of the Orders into motion, and Executed the traitorous Politicians,

I hope you're playing a character. The secretary is a traitor to humanity, and without any morality. Why would it ever be justified to kill someone for daring to associate with aliens? Personally I find it bizarre that a human could be attracted to a tentacled alien, but that doesn't mean it should be punished. Who the hell is he to dictate how other humans live? Especially colonies that I assume have independent governments. The willingness to kill for control is one of the darkest human impulses and should be treated like a disease.

6:59 The A.I. specifically mentions the Generals observing *disagreed* with the xenophobic senator. Even if they don't agree with the security chief's kill orders, they still won't move to commit the genocide the vote called for.

@@Dillsfawn No, the AI said the generals indicated they stand with Taggart, the genocidal secretary general.

Yeah there is a few things like how the people who were threatened into voting for is just treated like they wanted it... the f? But also, the AI being able to determine a violation and order the arrest yet having no issue with allowing the execution of almost the entire counsel? It has some flaws...

@@derpionderpson1424 If they didn't want it they should have voted against it, it's THAT easy. And that part I agree with that the guards executing everyone targeted will have to be subjected to a trial for disobeying orders. But the story ends before we can know if that's what would happen

@@miguelangeldelossantos1337 Did you not pay attention? He literally threatened their lives, so no it is not just "THAT easy" Also the AI is able to lock the soldiers armor meaning it could at any time have stopped them from executing the counsel, why was it programmed to allow that if we agree that is disobeying orders? Whether you agree with some moral ideal here is irrelevant, the *STORY* have logical issues and internal inconsistencies, we deal with that first and consider morals later.

@@derpionderpson1424 Note the line about removing the AI uplink from their suits. Once that was disconnected the AI couldn't stop them. It could open the doors to let the senators try to flee but that would have endangered others.

You have to stand for something. It is my opinion that it is better to fight and possibly die for something than to live forever never having stood for anything.
