Not sure what could be worse. The entirety of the human race just force quit and probably took all of the information and wealth they could get their hands on with them. Humanity probably knows more about them than they themselves do. Corporate and Governmental espionage on a galactic level all because some Zeno's wouldn't play nice with contract law.

@@benjaminseidlitz4002 The ending of this is Triumphant for Humanity; it is a Human saying "We don't need anything from you. We will not be your cheap labor anymore." etc. With a triumphant ending it seems likely this would be the second one. IMO with Humans being superior to the other species in all ways mentioned; a sequel to THIS would suck because it would be not Humans fighting equals, or fighting superior species...I cannot be excited about a story where Humans are superior at the start of a war...and their enemies seem both lazy and stupid.

Those workers will have the info and experience to bring humanity into a economic, social and industrial golden age at the expense of the federation... there would properly be a mass exodus of humans that leave federation's space forever.

OK so their employers didn't honour the renegotiation clause so humans went on strike. And for that they're put on a tribunal ... guess the federation doesn't have any labour laws then, or felt free to ignore those when it came to humans.

If you had a federation that had lasted for thousands of years, would you really care about the wishes of a member that had joined less than 50 years ago?

@kiritotheabridgedgod4178 I would care more about the rule of law, required for its long-lasting legitimacy. If it ignores its own laws in favour of older members it turns more into an empire, which lacks judicial legitimacy and would therefore require force to keep the lesser members underfoot and prevent the exact kind of scenario we see here. Just ask yourself: how has this state so far kept from falling apart if it provokes this kind of walk-out and has no means to stop it?

@@DeHerg economic sanctions and the fact that, as stated, non of the weaker members ever had the same ability to effect the entire economy with a walkout that humanity did, therefore, no member had the ability to walk out and leave the federation without committing economic suicide.

And how would leaving such a federation be economic suicide if you just joined, meaning your economy must've worked fine on its own before?

I imagine some of the other discontent member species, might also take advantage of the economic instability to secede from the Federation. Subsequently seeking out fairer trade agreements with humanity. That could lead to military conflicts, especially if the seceders 50 year probation period expired.

So this implies billions of Humans were treated like Interns; not unpaid but paid a mere 20% of all 'respected species' for centuries...and that struggle made Humans strong, that struggle and injustice made Humans desire to become better than the lazier Aliens. This is a bit of Wish Fulfillment in that Humans are described as better at any skill that was useful. But in a crowded galaxy where hundreds of species are all competing for resources and the more desirable planets; this would happen dozens of times to different species...not always this bad, but worse is also possible. If there are species that don't need more workers they would ignore the new and poor species, but barring Rules of Ethics that are widespread...a lot of new species would have a raw deal where it takes many centuries to reach parity with the first species to explore the galaxy. So this narration is not realistic because of the Wish Fulfillment, but it still has an element of truth as in something like this does seem likely with enough species interacting and competing.
