Good thing they have a lot of time deciphering each other's signals... I also remember reading something like that... The humans found a signal, and the aliens replies... They spend decades deciphering and when the humans finally did it it translates to "HELP".

the universal constants are always a good baseline to fall back on, this is why the metric system even exists, its based on Planck's Constant, whereas the imperial system is based on archaic and crude representations of finger lengths and feet lengths, not exactly practical for anyone other than a closed society. the measurement of the speed of light (another universal constant) can be used to measure time as well as gravity, since the speed of light is affected by powerful gravity wells like stairs, pulsars, and blackholes. the distance light travels in a given period can determine the passage of time, and therefore the division of time.
@clothokaftan Жыл бұрын
@@TechnoSpectre3 god will have to try harder than that if he wants us to truly be unable to understand eachother, we can still understand emotions, and since most humans these days are practically scholars, we all have a general understanding of universal constants, and with some math, can construct a basic language from it to communicate with. the only way god can truly cripple our ability to unite would be to make us utterly incapable of empathizing with others, and for the universal constants to no longer be constant, thereby destroying the fabric of the universe. it was a vain act on his part to begin with, out of petty spite and no actual wisdom behind it. this is why HFY stories have discarded gods as no more than a hindrance at the least, and an existential threat at the worst.

The chance to make new friends... or new enemies. Hence the ancient saying (which I'm probably going to mangle): Me against my brother. My brother and me together against our family. Our family together against the world. Yes, we have always been divided. But divided factions coming together to present a single front to an outside force (be it friend or enemy) is as old as we are.
@talisonqueirozviana7329 Жыл бұрын
i know that saying as: me against my brother, us against our cousin, the three of us against the world. don't know what the original is though.
@alganhar1 Жыл бұрын
@@talisonqueirozviana7329 It stems from an old Arab Bedouin saying that apparently translates into me and my brother against our cousin, the three of against a stranger. No idea if the changes for the modern saying are a case of mistranslation, or purposeful. Neither would surprise me, and the fact the saying has changed slightly does not surprise me either. Sometimes sayings change over time. Its like the saying Blood is thicker than Water so many people like to use. The original saying was the Blood of the Covenant is thicker than the Water of the womb! Though admittedly a complete reversal of the original meaning of the saying is a bit of an extreme example!!!

What always gets me about “we can’t talk to each other, we have no idea how to teach them our language” stories is that we know very well how to teach things with very underdeveloped brains, and with developed ones, a language. We teach every child a language, so why would we not use the same type of method with an alien species? Why would an alien species not be able to do the same back?
