I mean, that's the whole point of the genre. HFY stands for "Humanity, Fuck Yeah!" and it's meant to push back against the mainstream depiction of humans in most sci-fi and fantasy settings as the "factory settings" of people at best, and cowering, frail little simpletons that the uncaring universe snuffs out without a thought at worst. The idea that maybe humans _are_ special in some way is now subversive in this post-modern cynical era.
