Reminds me of autistic humans with touch aversion. The sensation of touch can be extremely overwhelming, not painful, but aversive due to the sensation itself. They can still want hugs and other forms of social contact but they have to be the one who initiates to prevent an overeaction.

and if we ever meet 'space spider civ' i do hoppe they are far lees 'hard wired' then the species in this story ,that seems to be far closer to gaia skittering ones in that , hardwired behaviour such as 'mated = male now food' or 'touch = potential food or potential danger'

This kinda reminds me of another of your stories, where there were arachnid aliens, that other aliens thought humans were scared of, since they were always giving them good deals, and were later controlled by other aliens to wage war against the humans. Kinda wish i remember the title of it, since i'd like to listen to it again.

@@kyriss12 no, it was a first contact with the arachnids, the humans after seemed to almost always give the arachnids good deals, other aliens who hate humans controlled the arachnids to attack humans, and when humans found out, THEY WERE PISSED

Its like forcing a hug on someone who hates hugs simply because you think they should get over it... like fuck right off with that.

@@malinbergvall no way. You are a diplomat. That means MUTUAL respect for boundaries. Imposing one custom or beleif over another does not in any way shape or form build bridges. Thos was an imposition of customs plain and simple. All that should be expected of the spider is acceptance of other people doing such things and being able to maintain composure. Even in real life on earth you are under ZERO obligation to fist bump, shakehands, hug, or otherwise touch. Not just a new thing either. You've alway been able to politely decline a handshake so long as you give a good reason.

Example... greets new diplomat who has been breifed on spiders species... gives a neutral or traditional greeting such as a bow or a wave. Spider meers diplomat not so informed and says, "my species is very touch adverse, please accept a traditional greeting of my people instead, or perhaps one of your own soecies that does not involve touch?" Really that simple. No violation of personal space and boundaries needed.
