You really deserve the respect/ praise you get for everything you do for mid to high end High Fidelity Music Equipment from Amps to Speakers to Cables to Digital everything in fact to get info on gear we 'never would consider' 'never heard of etc.' (German Physics Emperor a good example) reasons are simply 'not reviewed/ tested/ listened ~ and then viewed here on KZbin THANK YOU for all the many, many reviews you have done over the years (in depth thoughtful technical its music to our ears, pun intended) btw, really impressed with your passion for music and Hi-Fi ~ have a Great New Year and a enjoyable 2022!

@@Maver1ck911 Maybe MSB, Audio GD, Soekris, Metrum.. I don’t know at all, that why I’m asking Terry 😃 All I know is that I have a Denafrips Ares II and I’m not that impressed. To my taste it lacks meat in the bones and is forward in the mids, The retailers (to their credit) tell me the basic character is the same when stepping up in their line. The holo is described as very neutral and clean, not sure this is what I’m looking for.

@@thepickyaudiophile anyone I've seen review recently May and Spring L3 KTE have said it has great low end and stage with all the technicalities for its price. I can see the Ares 2 being lacking at 700 and dropping effective bit depth and only operating well in OS mode but I don't believe the Terminator or whatever is above it sounds like the same flavor with a lighter wallet. /shrug As long as DCS ring DAC is banished to the bin. That company shills pseudoscience to market (they're the audioquest of equipment makers)

@@Maver1ck911 Thanks for your reply’s 🙂 To be clear, by meat on the bones I mainly mean enough fullness in the mids, not necessarily the bass region. I only like the Ares II in its so called NOS mode. Although it looses some of its spaciousness, this is less sharp in the mids. But at the end of the day prefer my 10 year old Rega DAC 🤫

Awesome review, would love to try the martens, my 2020 has been interesting, for those you interested my favorite standmounts i tried this year were as follows (in a 12x12 room)- 1. xls-encore (all upgrades) 2.revel performa m106 3.ls50 meta and chartwell ls3/5a would be a tie, prefer vocals and midbass on the ls3, prefer the bass and airy top end detail on the kefs. Best amplifier, ive tried many emotiva xpa2, adcom 555 se (new and old version), being mentionable, but my favorite still is a restored nad 2200 power envelope with 1155 preamp i continue to use, second would probably go to a yamaha m4 i liked ALOT. NOTE-best sleeper/ under the radar (shhh, dont tell, keep the prices low lol) vintage speakers would certainly be the klipsch kg 3.2 for the bang for the buck, image well and can get loud if need be, bass is thunderous for what they are, k84 tweeter is more forgiving than other klipsch models, and certain dcm timeframes at the time, i prefer the 3.2 over the quartets, heresy, and all the other kg series ive tried even the 5.5, not at the forte level, but great for the money. Dcm timeframes are one of the most musical and best imaging for the money or in general period, great from top to bottom for everyday. Zu audio omens are also excellent, holographic very 3d and detailed, not quite bright, bass is sufficient but maybe not enough in a larger room. Most impressive of the year for me is the xls-encore.

I think if your building one of these systems the arendal speakers are about 3x the size of the KEF that is something to consider straight away. Both will serve you well hard choice kef are a little warmer arendal a bit more treble. You can make amazing results with both.

I can see why you would say that, but that door swings all ways, what's the point in reviewing 5 grand amps when a lot of people only want to spend £500 and vise versa. I think its good to look at products at all levels, I like the idea of catering to different audiences because someone spending £500 today might be spending £5000 tomorrow and if they could trust my advice for £500 they can trust it for £5000. Most importantly its education how do you know what better sound is unless you have heard it, if all you do is look at products around the same money / level your not really learning anything. And lets be honest if someone said to you do you want to listen to this awesome amp for a couple of weeks what would you say. Not many reviewers get that opportunity so I am humbled to be asked. I have loads more reasons why I did it but I think that is enough for now 😀

I have take your reviews with a grain of salt because your reviews are comprimised due to the fact you use Dirac LIve with all your reviews. Using Dirac live means sound quality comes down to what effect Dirac Live is having. Your opions on sound stage, and all other factors are not what the speaker or conmponet can acutally do because of Dirac Live. Everything you add to your audio chain is going to have an effect. How much do you know about room acoustics out of curiosity? Do you know how much effect on sound is caused by room dimensions, speaker placement, listening position in the room that's before you even get into reverb time and decay and then frequency response. Every reviewer has to review through these effects and these effects on sound will be totally different to your room. Totally different. Therefore why are my reviews more pinch of salt than anyone else's What do you know about reviewers rooms really - they can show you pretty pictures but that doesn't mean you know anything about their room. I show in detail how my room behaves and I use Dirac to take the room out of the equation as much as possible to put each piece of kit on a more equal playing field, that is a huge advantage. I can also understand more about the speaker from taking in room average type measurements and seeing how the speaker responds to certain things as part of my setup process again this is an advantage.

@@PursuitPerfectSystem I know quite a bit about room acoustics. I had to move my whole system in the room I had in because a room problems. I totally understand that no room is perfect. I'm in no way saying that dirac live doesn't fix the room problems. If you read my comment all I said was that your opinions of what you hear are all based on what Dirac Live is doing not the component or speaker under review. I still subscribe to your channel and I still enjoy watching what you post, I just take it with a grain of salt that's all. Cheers

Dirac doesn't fix the room problems, it allows you to manage the sound of the system in the room, Dirac is not doing anything I don't tell it to, I have total control of the sound in my room so I know what the room is doing, then what the speaker is doing and then what I do to undo what the room has done. That is a huge advantage compared to trying to work this out without any of this information. I can and do listen with and without so I am always checking to make sure.

@@MegaF1guy it's not room correction because if your room has long decay times dirac won't fix that - it's sound management because you can manage the frequency reponse you hear but if the room rings the room rings - acoustic treatment is room correction. However marketing terms are always a little well marketing. Nice chatting too
