I know this is an old video, but I want to thank you for this clay recipe. A charity I work with in Mexico made up 26 batches of this clay to use in a free crafting day for disadvantaged local children. 10,000 grams of clay, so that 100 children could each make their very own clay octopus to take home. It has made these kids very happy.

Got tip: if you put just a little bit of cooking oil or baby oil in the cup and rub it all over it before you put the glue in, the glue will slide right out of the cup and make it’s much easier to clean up :)

So, I tried this today - it was wayyyyyyy sticky when I was trying to knead it, and I gave up on the lotion idea and sprayed my hands with nonstick spray. That made all the difference - the sticky goop turned right into beautiful clay! The longer I worked it, the smoother and prettier it got! I am thrilled with the feel and look of it! It's in the fridge chilling, and I've got to go to work, but I can't wait to try using it tomorrow! Thanks so much for the tutorial!

@w.l.elliott7182
@w.l.elliott7182 9 ай бұрын
@chilling007 It's okay, actually, but it has some issues in using. IT SHRINKS so badly as it dries that if the thickness is at all uneven it cracks and twists. Too thin and it becomes brittle. I wouldn't use this for art with much detail, but it would be great for cookie cutter ornaments. I did not have good luck using it with silicone molds, but I may have not done it right as I'm new to molds as well.

My cold porcelain lasted about a little over 4 years (about 4 1/2). I made a batch and created a few items, I stored it away because we moved to a different house and I forgot about it. I found it in one of my craft totes while packing up to move again 4 years later, I poked at the packaging and it was still soft (not as soft as before but soft enough to pull apart, and hold details). We moved from a cold place to a hot place, so when I unpacked it; it was rock solid. It probably could have lasted a lot longer, but I think the move cooked it. Cold porcelain is pretty awesome for a homemade clay, Thank you for sharing how you cook it and your beautiful creations. ❤

This recipe works beautifully. I always make it rather than buying Storebought Clay and it's very easy to work with. Also, for anyone who's doing this to save Money, you can get Cake-Decorating tools from DolarTree as a substitute for very basic clay tools. (Like the ones with the ball tips and the ones you use to make lines in the clay? I don't know their proper names.) So making your own Clay as well as whatever substitute tools you can is an amazing technique for Artists working Paycheck-to-Paycheck like myself. P.S. The first ingredient is Cornstarch, though was listed as Cornflour, just in case anyone was confused by that little typo. ☺✨

cornstarch is cornflour
@scootermom1791
@scootermom1791 2 жыл бұрын
@@amamamia4391 Not in the US. They are 2 different things. Corn flour is yellow and is protein-based. Corn starch is, of course, white and is starch-based. In other countries, they mean corn starch when they say corn flour. I only point this out because if someone bought and used corn flour for this recipe in the US, it would likely produce a very different result.
@amamamia4391
@amamamia4391 2 жыл бұрын
@@scootermom1791 Thanks for your concern, corn meal is yellow and makes good bread and muffins, corn flour is what some countries call corn starch and is used as a thickener for puddings, gravies, sauces and real handy for some crafts.
@scootermom1791
@scootermom1791 2 жыл бұрын
@@amamamia4391 corn meal, corn flour, and corn starch are distinctly different corn products in the US. Corn meal is grittier version of corn flour made by grinding dried corn kernels. Corn flour is made by grinding the corn meal into a fine powder. Corn starch isn't produced by grinding dry corn kernels at all. It's a grain starch extracted from the endosperm of corn kernels and dried to form a white powder. It has completely different properties than corn flour.

the recipe seems simple, even it does look like I'll need a few small batches to make sure I get the correct cooking time. flowers and figurines are all very well, but can you do anything useful? like maybe candle holders, serving trays, desk organizers and stuff like that. I like the idea of it drying up transparent - maybe it would be fit for lampshades and nightlights... or glass-like bits for altered books and cardboard boxes... thanks for sharing!
