What a great video and subject matter. Would love to see a Part 2. As a former plant killer, I haven't read any plant books and when I saw the title of this I was hoping to find some books to distract me from this "insane" world. Thanks a bunch!

My Dad bought me The Square Foot Gardening book when I bought my house. Such a good read and a good starting point! I made one for herbs and one for veggies. But being a plant n00b at the time, I planted mint in the herb bed. Every year since, I have an entire garden of mint and nothing else. Haaa!!
@PamsPrettyPlants5 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing 😂😂 also learned that when you plant different kinds of the mint family together it blends their flavors ...which I also did. Anyway now I have mint and lemon balm everywhere and it’s fine by me. 🧡🧡

I can't believe I had missed this video!!! I'm such a plant and book hoar-- collector as well as a nerdy nerd, I looove this!! I'd also love illustrating my own nerdy plant book one day, but until then, I can spend hours and hours reading those botanical books. My mom has a 10volume botanical encyclopedia at our summer house, I no longer worry which books to bring with me on vacation!!😂😂😂

Hi Pam! Prof. Stefano Mancuso (one of the most eminent Professors we have in Italy) also wrote another book I love and I think you would love too: The Plant Nation. It's a very interesting book, rather difficult to define... I'd say it is a social assay written from a botanical perspective. In other words, he elaborates on current severe societal problems (e.g. climate change or social inequality) using the plant kingdom as example and as possible solution, in very original ways. I'm sure you'd love it (I read it in Italian but I think it might exist in English too)! 😊

I need more IRL planty people. Currently I have zero. No one understands. So I totally can relate to you and your outdoor garden excitment. The book recommends are great. I typically rely on KZbin and Pinterest for ideas and education. I may have to check out the Four-Season Gardener. I am just like you, living in NE Ohio... winters are forever and my hatred is extreme for it. I end up planning outdoor space and what plants I will be getting as soon as the weather allows. Keep up the great content Pam!!

Hi Kristi! I feel you on the lack of IRL plant friends! I’m working on converting some of my friends and slowly it’s starting to work. Muahahaha one of us! One of us! This year I’m going to try winter sowing for some flowers and stuff (still learning the method but it involves making mini green houses out of plastic jugs so you can start things earlier, including things that need that cold period to germinate like wildflowers) to make the winter a little less bleak. Seems people start that in January so that’s right about when I’m ready to cast myself into the frozen sea lol Thanks for watching!! 💚💚

You kill me! Capitalism will kill us all! In the meantime, prepare your garden, you'll need it during the next Armageddon. I'm thinking of doing a few of my smaller beds as square foot beds next year. I have three basically dead beds right now so being able to reuse them would be nice. (And I wouldn't have to hear about it from the tall blond guy.). I go to Old Farmers' Almanac online for most of my info and when that fails me I use a 35 year old book my stepmom gave me called Home Gardening Wisdom. It has no pretty photos, but the handdrawn pictures are helpful. I need an update though. Trying to leave long comments to help your SEO.

You’re a good friend. I love that you have a book from your mom, that’s some treasure. I’ve got this plan in my head to do two square foot beds and at least one other method for experimenting. I still can’t believe that I get to live with all family and take over the yard. FINALLY

... well, im broke right now, so in the meantime ill have to resort to just steaming my eyes digitally. xD Youre like, above my level! Look atchu! Buying physical books! Dangit girl, youre on a roll! *snaps fingers* *looks longingly to 2020* But great choice!!! I dont live in an English speaking country and reading the books on local language makes my gut twist! Yuck. I was eyeing that work of Summer Rayne Oakes since it came out but yeah... *looks at 2020" But the other books your lifted up there are quite interesting! Maybe its just me, but most plant related books Ive came across are about outdoor gardening. I think that 1st one is quite interesting. And the Humane gardening... even tough its not indoors, but im a sucker for pleasing others... and by others i mean plants and animals. And also the Weed Book seems to be dangling quite a big worm before my famished face. wait, what...? But yeah.... I have many desires... .. Can someone please take this shovel from my hands? So yeah... 2020... BY THE WAY! That BEAUTIFUL WAVY ombre is complimenting you so nicely!!!

Shooo girl I know all about the broke life 😂 I haunt my local library for books so I don’t have to buy any until I know I LOVE them and then when I do buy them I usually check eBay for used copies. I was fortunately able to buy Summer Rayne and Kevin’s full price to support them, but usually I wait a long time to get things I’ve got my eye on. The downside of the “artist” life, sometimes I have lots of work and plenty of money to get by and treat myself, but a lot of times it’s just pinching pennies in between jobs! What happens in 2020!? (Sorry if you told me already and I derped and forgot lol)
@Uiladoru5 жыл бұрын
@@PamsPrettyPlants Aaah. thats a good idea, I like your way of doing this! Yeah, artists life is a tough nut to crack. But I think its very good you followed it! It not only let you do things you like more often, but it also made you that much tougher. I havent told you xD and i just hope SOMETHING happens by then. Considering my current job/life, im in a pretty insecure position. I just dont want to pull any sleeves of my family even though they would probably help. sigh... so i had a bit of a very rocky summer, but it should be resolved by december if it all goes as planned and i keep being an obedient lil' mouse. And then I should recover by spring 2020, i hope. So yeah 2020! Worst case scenario it-... you knwo what, i dont wanna think about that. Jesus christ. xD

@@PamsPrettyPlants Lets try out best in 2020! \o/ Yeah, well put - shit sandwich. xD...To be honest, I feel like Ive gotten weaker in life this year. (._. ) I dont know what got into me but Ive been just changing my state from solid to a stupid drizzle at any sight of a problem. sigh.... I think the "break" of one month i had between work broke my momentum, so i started poking nasty stuff in the back closet of my head. I have to work harder and then I should complain, if i feel the need! xD p.s. Thank you for these little chats!

You know that white stuff falling from the sky. could happen tomorrow or Saturday. Need to bust it and drain and roll up my yard hoses. Summer 2019 is in the bag. Wish I could show you a link to my photos on Flickr. You can go look for it. I am Cat House Hill. I can guarantee you will be entertained. I was really giggling when you were doing your yard do-over.
