Just got done with a Myrtle Beach getaway with my family of four (two sons) and made the mistake of not getting boards ahead of time, but found decent ones at a nearby Dicks Sporting Goods.. I wish I would have looked into it sooner, but was able to scope out a few guys who knew what they were doing (just like you showed) and finally got the hang of it! I thought it was self-explanatory (I’ve done plenty of skiing/wakeboarding/kneeboarding) but I was WRONG! lol.. I’m 41, but looking forward to next year when I can get out there with my boys and shred some waves! (AKA just ride waves is good enough)

I wanted a body board if I am ever able to go back to the beach. Funny you mentioned Dicks. I bought one from there. Then got studying at it. Even tho I am fairly light I found a 42" board at Academy Surplus somewhat pricey. So now I have two ready. Just want to make it happen one time.

@@MidAgedDad it DOES work. About 4 weeks ago, I caught a beautiful wave at Cowell's, I saw her coming, I rode that baby into shore then all of a sudden, I was like air-bound, hey, where's my wave and BAM I dropped and hit the shore. It was success as far as I was concerned. Just hit Doran's weekend before last...had calm to work on my paddling, balance, etc. Caught a few nice waves coming in. I suggest watching these videos before you go out until they become second nature.

Yeah, pretty much covered all the key basics to get out there and ride a wave! Unfortunately, I had to learn the hardest way ( getting showed up by a bunch of 9-12 year old kids while I'm a middle aged dad lmao) but, I payed attention to what it was they were doing and figured it out. The best advice and you gave it here is: get in FRONT of the wave. I sat out there for 2 trips to the beach, getting waves smacking me and just kinda lumbering off going nowhere but behind the waves. Seeing the kids around me dart off like a bullet, I noticed they would get out to where the waves crested and time their launch just BEFORE the wave would impact. So I tried it and sure enough, was able to ride at least 100ft or better into shore lol These days I've gotten a whole lot better and can actually even do a FEW tricks but it was a long, embarrassing process
