Good Gracious! My late father taught me to fold jackets this way when I had my first "grown-up" suit over forty-five years ago. I thought this is how most people do it. Had no idea it was such a revelation. It really does work.

I would say that before the last fold, which is the simple part of folding in half over the arm, that the sleeves inside are not twisted. Take a look and tell me if this helps. Right I just have to come back to give credits and say thanks. I got my suit jacket packed on Monday evening and unpacked it after a flight, 2 trains and a cab at the hotel on Tuesday evening for wearing it at a trade fair and only had a single cease which fell by itself. I always wear my suit on the aeroplane*. Carry the jacket. You have a much better chance of getting a free upgrade if you are dressed smartly. The stewards will offer to hang the jacket in their luggage space or the First Class one. You do need a bespoke suit. I suggest you will find the cost of a bespoke suit is paid off with the first job it helps you secure. Top quality shoes are also essential, but over 20 years a $1,000 pair of shoes will work out cheaper than the less expensive ones. And I am not a suit fan, I wear cargo pants and a hoodie for choice; but if you are going to dress smartly, do it properly. * Except when I'm the pilot, then this video is useful.

Hi Phil, I am sitting in Singapore trying to pack my jacket - again - with your method. I arrived here with the kjacket folded acccording to your instructions, which are easy enough to follow, with the arms wrinkled. So I try again and yes, everything works as you describe but looking inside, the arms fall anything but flat. Any tps?

When you turn the shoulders around which is the step before the last fold over your arm, make sure the sleeves on the inside and straight and not twisted. This should help. Sleeves should be straight down like they would be on a hangar in your closet. Here is the link to the updated video. what about the collar? I tried this and there seems to be a small unnatural fold in the collar than when extended, it might show the folding line

If you look closely, try to pause and play, when the collar is up as you twist the shoulders together to the outside the collar is also turned out. That small area that may look like it could wrinkle packed in luggage does not primarily because of the thick felt under collar that is too dense to cause a crease. Hope that helps.

I just flew down the coast for my dad's wedding, and I used this method to pack my suit jacket both ways. It came out mostly wrinkle-free, but both times, I did find a wrinkle in the back, near the right sleeve, that I did have to get out. I also had a couple of wrinkles in the upper parts of the sleeves, facing to the back. Is it likely that there's a common mistake that causes this, or is there something particular that people sometimes miss that can prevent it?

@Alexander Hull-Richter Hi Alex, what's new? Thanks for watching this video. Sometimes the pull through of shoulders and twist of the collar is the most confusing part. That effectively folds the jacket in half vertically, but inside the fold the sleeves and shoulder pads are lined up in a way that when the last fold over the arm is complete the shoulder pads are flat. The shoulder pads need to be flat. I will be going on an 11.5 hour flight soon with 3 suits and a jacket (amongst other things) in the luggage. One will be a tuxedo. Im going to make a video of the folding and unpacking each way. It should be up after the new year. I hope that helps.

Ceasar Zamora thanks for watching. You can fold this way for any type of bag or luggage you may have or want to use. Sometimes I use this fold just putting a jacket on the seat of a car, but there is no issue putting other items on top in a larger piece of checked luggage. Hope that helps.

@spqba747 Hi, did you try this out? Many people have and have left comments that it has worked well for them . I just took a 15 hour flight from the Middle East with 5 suits and 1 sports jacket, amongst other necessities. All came out really well.

@Christopher Thanks for watching and trying out this fold. No need to roll up your jacket. Actually, don't roll it up it will get wrinkled. If you worked out the folding in the video you can pack on top of the jacket or put it on the top. The idea is to keep the shoulders in a very flat position. Could you do a video where you take that folded jacket and actually pack it in a suitcase full of clothes and leave it in there for 24 hours? How much can you compress it without getting creases?

If you read some of the comments here and especially the comments on the newer version of this video which I will link for you here, many people have traveled far and wide with great success with this fold arriving to there destination without wrinkles. In terms of compression, any goods wool suit will bounce back fairly well. I usually place my suits either midway or on top of everything else. Certainly they are compressed after closing the luggage and who knows how many heavy bags get on top of it during a flight, but in the end it comes out very good to wear from the bag. Ill be traveling 18 days soon and will do my best to do an opening of the luggage after I return. Here is the link for you of the newest version of this fold. @@mannshambles7006 I wouldn’t wear a button down collar shirt to a wedding. If you are a guest, get a white french cuff semi spread collar, edge stitched if you can find it. Button cuff is fine if you don’t want to wear cuff links. That will go with any suit you have and make it look crispy. Don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

I do like a little more point than the very modern spread design so the search is on. Any online stores you'd suggest? KZbin needs a special category for your channel. A master class classification! Shivansh Jagga Actually they don't at all. Lapels are pressed in a factory on a curve so they are not flat ironed like trousers are. Inside better suits there is a piece of canvas which gives the suit jacket its overall shape. When raising the lapels and collar and then folding you are actually preserving this curved press. Conversely if one were to keep the lapels flat in the luggage for an extended period of time, the curve would become flattened out or misaligned which you don't want. Hope that helps. Stay safe.

@jonbaum I guess that part is the whole “trick” of this fold. When the lapels are aligned, the next step is to punch the shoulder padding through to the other side. Try doing that. Don’t worry about finishing the fold. Get back to me.
