All spectacular trees, but congrats to the winner. What a difference changing out that slab for another made! I wasn't even looking at that, but when it was called out, for me it was a shocker !

I agree, a small but very important change. Every small detail helps create a masterpiece in the end!

Wow! Lot of time and patience in that tree!

Yes, after waiting 20 years to show the tree and then a lot of pre show work throughout the year and then the final wiring before the show, that is the definition of patience!

Changing the slab the tree was sitting on was the icing on the cake.

Yes, a nice finishing touch, we were talking about how well the show was prepared when it comes down to fine details like this!

Great tree shape! At least, someone has done away with the pyramid shape. That kind of design makes me feel like looking at a Chinese calligraphy written with lots of freedom. The reverse taper flaw is a small details which does not overwhelm the beautiful movement of the tree.

Yes, it is a very feel flowing tree that almost defies gravity!

Awesome video. That was an amazing tree that won. I would love to try to do something like that. I have a very small bonsai that I bought from Lowe's. I have a long way to go. That 'Best in Show' was amazing.

What is your thoughts on auto watering for bonsais?
@TheBonsaiZone5 жыл бұрын
It is very useful for short periods of time, if you are a way for the day or on a vacation. It doesn't take the weather into account, you may end up watering on a rainy day, over watering on cloudy days and under watering on sunny hot days. It will keep your trees alive, but it isn't as good as hand watering. Hand watering allows you to give the tree water when it needs it, not by a timed schedule. The automatic watering usually uses tap water that can leave lime deposits on your roots, leaves and pots.

I'm sad, that here in Poland, we don't really have many bonsai shows, and most of them are pretty small. This thuja is really nice, it looks almost like Japanese calligraphy.

How do you keep aints out of your flower pots?
@TheBonsaiZone5 жыл бұрын
A well watered tree is usually free of ants, as the soil is getting constantly wet all the time. You can place the tree on a stand surrounded by a tray of water. This will keep them away!
@michaeldavis82595 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nigel. I really like your videos. I asked the question because I’m thinking about getting into bonsais. I live in Jacksonville Florida and we have a lot of aints.
