When I saw my first full size Kapok tree, it was like an awakening or an almost spiritual experience! It was like that when I saw a full size Baobab tree for the first time also. Grand old trees just seem to make us humble and in awe.

@@TheBonsaiZone A grand, old tulip tree has the same effect on me. They grow so straight and tall and proud, hiding their gorgeous blooms in the canopy... should one of their unique flowers fall to the earth, it's almost magical to find them. You don't get to see them otherwise.

This is Ross, your neighbor from Brampton. It was good to see you at the show. Your video style really captures the detail and movement of the trees. I can only imagine how different a spring show would be without the stunning red maples, but with flowering magnolia and azalea. Good luck with you new green house.

Michael in our club describes trees as ballet dancers when you are driving by them in a car, it's like the tree is rotating showing off all it's angles! I really like trees with flowing branches, it is like the lines of a dancer.

Very captivating video. My thoughts; the Boxwood (8:45), Juniper (14:27), and especially the Juniper at 18:30 with the highly developed character of it’s bark and dead branches, all really looked like and had the feeling of mature, natural trees. The Star Magnolia at 15:10, with it’s buds swollen, was very impressive. I have to say that for me the Porcelain Berry at 4:20 was a real stand out. The leaves were small, well shaped, (leaf shape can vary in this species), and some still green, some fall - yellow. The berries varied in size and were nicely exhibiting their white to blue transitioning colors. The vines were arranged in such a way as to lend it the substance and structure of a weeping tree, while not emasculating the sense of wild vigor that this plant demonstrates in habitat. ~ Side note: this plant from south east Asia has become extremely invasive in areas of the U.S. , ex. Virginia. It can literally smother whole forest!
@TheBonsaiZone
@TheBonsaiZone 5 жыл бұрын
The boxwood is a tree originally developed by the American bonsai artist Nick Lenz. It was part of a Boxwood forest originally. The Juniper has a really nice tall tree style, it was one of my favorites also! The Blue rug Junipers were also developed by Nick Lenz, he is also responsible for the root over Demon planting near the beginning of the video! Here is a link to more of his creations.... www.artofbonsai.org/galleries/lenz.php The Porcelain berry was a contender for best tree of the show.

Cheers Nigel and Ali, nice coincidence I was online. Thanks for all the videos Nigel, I’ve been watching since you dug your horse chestnut from the bonsai garden. Very grateful all the good advice and encouragement.

Compared to your trees, there is nothing special about these bonsai. They all look extremely standardized.

No one told Einstein to cut his hair. Nigel is the "Einstein" of the Canadian Bonsai world. His hair is perfect just the way it is. Would you like someone telling you, that you look horrible? No...? Then don't do that to someone else.
