Wish you the best with your recovery Ken. As someone who had to adjust their career due to medical issues I know it can be challenging mentally. Keep trucking along, embrace the changes, and enjoy your family. Aside from that, I think a video or a series of videos on kayak trip planning or camping would be great for people like me who are interested in moving into that area.

Thanks! I agree... more info about kayak camping would be helpful - and fun.

Ken, they all look clever and worth trying. Thanks for coverting so much of your experience into useful info for us.

This was very interesting as the gear I take on my self supported bicycle tours is very similar. I also swear by my 2 person Big Agnes Copper Spur Bikepacking tent. Shorter poles, amazing quality as you describe.

Super important tip on water filters! Do not let them freeze! Put the filter in your sleeping bag at night if you expect it might get close to freezing. The filter will stop working, and you likely will not know until you get sick.

Firstly, hope you're resting your shoulder and feeling a bit better. Some great gear there Ken I personally like the stove and the Hammock.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on an AMOK Hammock.
@GingerByrn13 ай бұрын
Same here. I just bought one and am taking it out on a kayak trip soon. I am a complete hammock newb, and I had no trouble hanging it. I am short so it took a couple tries to get in it the first time. Can’t wait to sleep in it!

@@GingerByrn1 Can you share your thoughts on your customer purchase experience, like how long it took for you to receive your purchase? (I live in the PNW in USA as example, no clue on shipping fulfillment for my area.) Tks!

@@kevincasey2947 It was arrived MUCH sooner than I anticipated. I live in SC, and DHL from Europe is fast for us. I had my order within 4-5 business days. I bought my sleeping pad first, and decided that I really needed a hammock for my trip. Both shipments came quickly with no hitches.

@@GingerByrn1 I don't know how short you are, but I'm 5'6", and this is how I do it: Back into the hammock until your butt is touching the sleeping pad while pulling the foot of the hammock between your legs. Then grab the hammock's internal support webbing and use it to hoist yourself in. You should end up roughly in a sitting position. Continue using the webbing to adjust your position.

The shoulder is slow going... Finally got an MRI today. That should help clarify what exactly is going on in there.

Cool gear, but I tend to try to be as light as possible to avoid weighting my kayak down too much and making portaging slightly easier, without impacting my sleep quality. For my pot & stove, as I'm always only boiling water, I went with the BRS300T stove paired with a 650ml titanium pot. To sleep, I prefer a quilt to a sleeping bag comfort wise and I take the Trekology Aluft 2.0 for my pillow. For my tent, I treated myself to a dyneema one, so pack weight is about 2lbs. As I am getting older, these gradual upgrades have been making my kayak camping trip somewhat easier.

I hear you! Dropping weight is great, when you can do it without sacrificing comfort.

Big Agnes tents are great, I have been using the seedhouse SL2 as my go-to tent for a decade now, I do use it with my wife but it does get tight using a 2 person tent with two people. I will have to take a look at that Zen Bivvy pillow for her.
@PaddleTV3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm definitely a fan of 3-person tents for 2 people... even 4-person if weight/space isn't an issue.

GSI makes a collapseable pour-over maker that I have been using for years. I love the sea to summit bowls too, they are the backbone of my mess kit You have to check out their x-pot and x-kettle too if you take a white gas stove instead of the canister stove.

The Aeropress coffee press is my go to, home or away, everyday! And trust me, I have tried a lot of coffee makers. Clean up could not be easier. And It comes with a reusable stainless steel coffee filter, but if use don't like the hassle of cleaning a coffee filter, and who does? it also comes with 350 bio-degradable paper filters. It makes the best tasting coffee you will ever have in the wild, or at your dinning room table.

It is funny the big sleep bag manufacturers are getting on board with the double bag system. The Canadian military sleep system is an outer bag, inner bag, and a machine washable liner. It is heavy though, lol.

I've been thinking/dreaming about a sleeping bag that has a sleeve for my sleeping mat. Spend all night slipping and sliding off the thermarest. I wonder if Big Agnes are sold in the UK?

Ken, I believe you highly rate Cali Case for phone protection. , am I correct? Do you have any discount codes from them for first-time buyers? Love your videos. Speedy recovery on your shoulder.
@PaddleTV2 ай бұрын
Honestly, it's been about 3 years since I've use a Cali Case, or any phone case. I now simply put my phone in my lifejacket, because phones are so water resistant. Not a great solution for saltwater though... or for people who do a lot of swimming. :) Bottom line... I don't have a discount code, and I haven't tried any newer model cases either.

if I were to camp in the great north woods again, I would carry a super potent actual military bug repellent. A recipe is on the Internet along with health warnings if you don't dilute it further.
@Ammoniummetavanadate3 ай бұрын
Getting a Permethrin spray for your clothing makes a big difference. You just treat anything you will be wearing as your outer layer and have constant bug protection.
