I got the columbia pfg bag 2.5 years ago. The zipper still works. I love this bag. It is so easy to clean. I also take mine ice fishing. It keeps my lunch and drinking water from freezing. I can put my fish in there and keep them from freezing hard by putting snow in the bag to cover the fish. I wish they made a light grey colored bag for those hot sunny summer days.

Ordering one right now, for our boat! With your endorsement, don't be surprised if the price goes up. I've seen similar happen a lot. You sold me! We always take 2 small coolers, 1 for food and beverages, another for fish. They're constantly in the way! This bag appears to take up less room than either of our coolers! Ordering through your link!

Thanks Tyler…just ordered the Columbia one! I’ve been using a $10 insulated zip up bag from Trader Joe’s. It’s cheap and gets the job done, but kinda thin and also it’s primary purpose is for my wife to use it for groceries. So, doing the upgrade makes sense
@fishhunt98742 жыл бұрын
I don’t kayak fish but I do have an Opah Fathom 5 Bag. For my boat it is the bomb. With the super thick insulation it keeps ice for days! Tuna, ling cod, rockfish and sturgeon have all been in my bag with no issues. Fish fillets in ziplock bags and my lunch and drinks all stored in the inner zippered pocket. They are pricey bags but they are worth the price.

That looks like a much better behind the seat kayak bag than the one I’m using. I often get passes for the Columbia company store, so I’m going to look for one next time I go. Thanks.

I was looking to get that Columbia bag but it was out of stock every where so I ended up with your standard catch bag. For Kokanee/trout it was too big so I picked up a smaller bag from wilderness pack specialties and it’s awesome. Plus I’m supporting a company that right down the road from me in Cornelius OR.

You should check out the Columbia PFG Zipperless Cooler. The 48 can version is 19 inch wide internally so it's perfect for Kokanee and Trout. No zipper to mess with, and it's the same external material as the PFG bag in your video, no leaks, etc.
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
I have look at those but they are much taller which makes it more challenging to get the fish in the bag from the seat.

I picked up a Columbia one a few years back. Been solid except for the zipper issue as you noted. I had some rockfish spines puncture one of the bags but it was pretty over filled and I wasn’t being careful. If you have employee store access they are even a better deal.
@adamsnyder93472 жыл бұрын
Great rundown! Looks like any of the bags could be improved with a magnetic closure system below the zipper for easy in and out access. A Gore Tex certified repair person like the one who who replaced a zipper on a backpack I’ve used for years could help with the zipper on an otherwise ideal catch bag. Thanks for everything.

For cheap bags, don’t use raw ice. Ice cuts soft cooler liners causing them to leak. Use ice packs instead or frozen water bottles

Tyler- Not sure the best video to post a question on so I’ll just post it here. I just got my first fishing kayak and I’m going to fish a reservoir in Colorado for Kokanee as well as other things. I don’t have a downrigger -how can you calculate the depth you’re trolling at when you’re using one of the sliding weight rigs? I know it’s a factor of the amount of weight? Feet of line and trolling speed but if there’s a video that goes into that I haven’t found it yet. Any suggestions or point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Thanks for the info, but I have a question cause I have an addicted fishing bag and love it for a year and a half. What leaks on it? Also what do you do for ice I was freezing oj bottles but went with buying 20lbs bag of ice and making a water slurry for my salmon and trout. Fish lake superior.
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Mine developed a seam leak in the lower right corner on the third trip. Into the garbage it went. My Calcutta lasted only two trips. LOL.
@earlybirdadventures86772 жыл бұрын
@@spiltmilt really hmm I have yet to see that. Will keep in mind about a future bag of this goes. What do you do for ice just straight or do you make a ice/water slurry? The slurry is what I do get the fish cold fast.
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
I just put them on ice directly no slurry

The insert bags, do you feel they're puncture resistant, for holding perch, crappie and walleye? I've recently been fishing an area where I'm catching Kokanee, Big Crappie and Perch, all in the same spot. I've thought, once mine arrives hopefully tomorrow, it would allow me to keep Kokanee and trout in one insert, crappie and perch in the other.

Great Video... Would you recommend any of those bags for flying your fish home? Say if your staying at a place with a fridge/freezer & freeze your filets, through them in the bag & possible make it a Checked bag if you've got around 50lbs of fish (minus bag weight) or if you're going to use a carry on or personal bag pack style? What would you recommend for that?
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
I haven't used bags this big but have used similar smaller bags to move frozen fish across the country. For half day flights we just transport the meat frozen and it makes it there with minimal thawing. For longer cross country flights we will also add some dry ice to ensure it makes there unthawed.
@MatthewsFabrication2 жыл бұрын
@@spiltmilt I'll be fishing in Florida, just trying to prepare. First time there. About a 5-6 hour flight from where I am plus a 2 hour drive home. I think I might try some ice packs in an Ozark trail backpack cooler.
