PFG bag still seems like the winner in a contest for the best back-of-kayak catch bag in my opinion. Lots of power boat anglers watch your channel for informational nuggets, and I’m sure the Amazon Gucci bag would look pretty good to them. Thanks.

Love my PFG! I've got hundreds of trips with it and not one issue thus far. Thanks for the video Tyler.

I use the pfg bag for smaller fish, the addicted bonk em all bag for salmon. For really spiny stuff like rockfish I'm a big fan of the wilderness systems bag.

Bought a Norchill bag from Amazon this Spring, that PFG bag didn't come up on any searches for some reason. Its a good one handed zipper operation, keeping it wipped down with drysuit zipper wax helps. The 48 qt. Bag was described to be 25" lg. But it's really only 21". Is that PFG bag actually 25" at the base? The Norchill bag was $18 more too! BTW have you fished Patterson lake this year, are kokanee still in there?
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Yes the base of the bag is 25" on the PFG and the widest point on the inserts is also 25". The Kokanee are still absent from Patterson and the lake is full of stunted Tiger Trout.

I received my Columbia PFG a couple weeks ago. Haven't had an opportunity to get out fishing, since. I'm really hoping to put it to us soon! It'll be in a boat, not a kayak. I think it'll save a lot of space, over using a rigid cooler. I do wish it were available in lighter colors, to stay cooler. I wonder if lighter colors are avoided, because blood and guts are more visible... Question, will the inner bags hold up to the sharp spines of Crappie and Perch?
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Yes the inner bags are puncture resistant.

What are you using for cooling inside your catch bag? Does your system last all day in the heat your exposed to on the eastside? I been using three 16 oz water bottles made with a saltwater solution and froze in my deep freeze. Also been using a costco insulated bag for my catch bag which is a little small but i primarily fish for kokanee right now. Always enjoy your gear reviews, i feel like it gives me a better way to make a choice rather than buying multiple items
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
I do the same as you during the summer heat and use 3 or 4 18-24 oz frozen saltwater bottles. During the shoulder seasons I also use flat ice packs. I find that is sufficient for a day on the water using the PFG bag.

Love my PFG bag, but the zipper breaks easily and isn't very durable.

I bought one of the Columbia bags based off your review… have to say I love it, but how do you clean yours ????
@spiltmilt Жыл бұрын
I always remove the inserts first. Then I fill a sink with warm bleach water and soak those for several minute. Drain, rinse, and hang upside side until dry.
@318android35 ай бұрын
Thanks for the review! Do you just add ice to bag directly or keep in original bag? Curious as this would be first bag as I’ve always used hard coolers…. Also, I live in hot climate 115F summers… would ice last for 5-6 hours?
@spiltmilt5 ай бұрын
I use ice packs and place them in the same removable liner that the fish go in. It hits well over 100 here all the time and 5 ice packs are enough to keep the fish cold
@318android35 ай бұрын
@@spiltmilt sounds promising! Your drinks stay cold too? If so that is impressive for 5 packs. Especially because fish will be warm When throwing into the cooler too.
@spiltmilt5 ай бұрын
The fish I catch live in cold water typically 55-60 F. I'd need more ice if I were targeting warm water species
