When throwing under arm, only throw at low targets. The under arm technique with the same blade grip is also possible from an over hand angle, I just figured that out recently and have not practiced it much, but I will eventually make a video showing it.

You can throw an every day carry knife with this technique. I would not recommend practice throwing at a log round or wooden target, I would recommend practice throwing a folding, boot or neck knife at a cardboard box, or at least a much softer target than wood.
