I've always preferred a knife as a CQ weapon, it never needs reloading. Thanks for the info, I prefer the point down hold with the fist grip because it allows for a little more concealment and the element of surprise.

Right on. Me too! I've been telling people that for years! No reloading. And in close combat, I can cut the attacker before he can draw his pistol. I also like Jim's 10 angles method. The ONLY thing I'd add to make it better would be the ol'e 'pull the shirt over their head' NHL trick just prior to cutting them to ribbons!

I allways looking for real and good Anti-Knife-Defense and you are on of the best and most serious teachers i found. Its really usefull and works against SERIOUS attacks (not that fancy and non realistic rubberknife dancing mambojambo like in too many Martial Arts). But: If you defend yourself with a knife here in germany you came to jail...to carry a knife on street is illegal (there are really restricted laws about) and not even against multiple attackers its allowed to use a knife (a lethal weapon). Of course i can handle a knife after nearly 30 yrs in FMA and of course i would use it in a real danger situation but the consequenses can be really tough here in Gangstas paradise germany.

Excellent instruction. People who say this doesn't belong in self defence need a reality check, any kind of martial art or weapon technique could be self defense if the cause is just. crosshairjunky, for smaller edged weapons, like the Boker Wagner Urban, or even a writing pen, you use a MODIFIED FIST GRIP. Does anyone know how to find self defense classes using a cane or knife? I'm disabled and get really scared walking alone at night. How would I go about finding a class like that? I have no clue where to start. Thanks!
@Scrxtch8 жыл бұрын
+OzarksUSA Hey, I just found your comment. It's not exactly an answer to your question, but if that really worries you, I would suggest imagining the kinds of bad situations you'd be most likely to find yourself in if they really happened, and what kind of techniques would be effective in protecting you, based on those situations. Identify techniques you could perform effectively; researching various martial arts will help with this. Perhaps carrying defensive aids like pepper spray might be worth considering, anything that helps you defend yourself and make an escape. Also, remember reasonable force - if you attack someone in self-defence, you'll have to be able to justify it in court after the police find out about it. Then, find an art based on all those ideas and try to find something similar locally and adapt it to your own capability any way you can. I think learning to defend yourself is a mental journey as much as a physical one. Hope that helps :)

Drawcuts with anything below 5 inch will probably not even manage to cut through a regular T-shirt. Teaching draw cuts with these knives, which are most likely the most common knives you'll see in a self-defense situation (nobody is gonna whip out their Crocodile Dundee sized knife, with a "that's not a knife, this is a knife"-line, in a EDC situation. You are not going to run around with a mini machete in your every day life.), is just pointless and potentially dangerous. Many places also do not allow knives in excess of 5 inch of blade length (some even as low as 3,5 inches). So really, those swipes are really quite useless unless they are wearing a really, really thin T-shirt. I'd say it would be quite impossible for you to make any sort of worthwhile cut through that hoody you are wearing. Maybe you'd be lucky and get a tiny nick or something, but you'll not get any sort of threatening damage with anything shorter than a chef's knife with those swipes. And might i say the audio is screwed up towards the end.

+Kajan451 i carry a 4" you can kill someone with just a stab to the neck, or down low to the knee.
@IshanDeston9 жыл бұрын
kenmastersmaster You forgot the eye-socket. You can punch it right into his brain through his eye socket.... That is assuming you are not trying to shank some unsuspecting idiot in a prison yard. 'Cause, unless the person just stands there and doesn't defend themselves, you will not reach any vital area like that. Even untrained fighters know which areas to protect instinctively. You're chances are higher that they will expose the inside of their arms while trying to defend themselves, than them letting you get in a position to stab their neck or knee with a 4 inch blade.

Hmmm. You must be used to pretty blunt knives. I use a Sharpmaker on mine, and they're scary sharp. Even my 3" blades will stab or slice through a leather or denim jacket like it's not there. So I disagree that you need a big knife. What you need is a GOOD knife.
@sarge7127 жыл бұрын
The worst cutting I've ever dealt with was with a 2 1/2 inch Old Timer pocket knife. A big drunk started beating on a man and his wife in their home during a party and the husband cut the drunk bully off of him. The small knife sliced through the victim's neck and t-shirt like a scalpel. I prefer a larger knife myself but that incident showed me that even a small blade is deadly.

Of course, I would prefer a gun, but that is not always available. I think that if there was a 12 ounce ball peen hammer on the table and a k-bar knife on the table, I would choose the hammer if I had to fight for my life. However, knife can still be a very good friend if you have nothing else, a knife can be a very effective self defense tool. But you have to know where the targets are. Most people don't.
