@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
@@supermax_1232 works fine for me. You don’t need every emitter to be tracked on Quest (not that this covers any) but should an get blocked there are plenty of others to keep track of the controller’s position. 🙌🏻
@ifoundwaldo783 жыл бұрын
@@supermax_1232 I haven't found any issues the only people I've heard complain about tracking are God tier beatsaber players.
@docklokman60543 жыл бұрын
@@OQPlay The Kiwi straps actually block 2 emitters on each controller and there's huge complaints about tracking issues because of it. You should be able to tell since they cover up a spot left open on the halo protectors.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
@@docklokman6054 That's true, they do cover those areas, but there are plenty more to maintain tracking unless, as said above, you are beat saber god, using the power of the Force to play at Expert+ levels. More casual and less intense games shouldn't have any problem.

Can you do this 5:10 with the VR Cover ones? Do they fit into the Oculus case?
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
I just put those back on and no you can't the plastic thickness of them stop you from inserting them into the ring sensor with the Halo protectors also attached. Hope this helps.

I notice the VRCover has a sensor cutout that the Kiwi grips covers due to the snaps over the top of the ring (most apparent with the VRCover over top). I don't think VRCover would have a cutout there unless it was needed, which makes me think that Kiwi is covering some of the IR emitters. Alas I don't have an iPhone with the near-IR to confirm the blockage.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
Yes that might be the case. For some reason my newer iPhones can’t see the IR, I might see if I have an older one to see if this area does have emitters. But either way. It’s at a place that it’s rarely tracked and there are plenty of other emitters on the ring that will maintain tracking of your controllers. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
@Darkri1873 жыл бұрын
Is it okay if you accidentally hit one of your controllers and an area where the sensor is turns black? I’m not sure if that indicates that it’s broken or not, because I have a black mark where one of my sensors are.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
That sounds odd. Could the object you hit be black or dirty? It might have left the mark on the controller rather than something on the controller burning out on the sensor ring.
@Darkri1873 жыл бұрын
@@OQPlay I hit my wall, which is a sort of tan color.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
@@Darkri187 I guess with speed you could have created such a heat build-up from rubbing the wall, that could have turned the mark black. Without doing that trick where you look at your controllers through an older camera phone when powered to see the sensors flashing, there's no way of telling if the sensors are affected or not. I wouldn't worry too much. If you didn't crack the sensor rings doing it, I am sure the impact wasn't hard enough to damage any sensors inside.

Is there a reason to not buy any of the covers that also come with the strap, all built into one? I see a bunch on amazon with mainly high reviews, but some people claim the sensors get blocked on the ring
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about the tracking of these grips too much. The Quest doesn't need ALL the sensors for tracking, so you would need to cover a few to block tracking. These cheap grips are good. The ring protection is always tight enough, but if you push on them they will move over the sensors, but you're unlikely to do this when your hands are holding the grips. I bought a pair for £4.99, and even those were surprisingly decent. But I always prefer grips with loop at the top and bottom of the grip - not riveted at either end. This means you can swap the thin strap with a better one, such as the ProStraps from ProTube VR.
@spsnyder23 жыл бұрын
@@OQPlay I think you misunderstood my question. No problem. Let me clarify: you are recommending 2 products to produce a whole solution (ring protector and strap). Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to just get an all-in-one solution that has both the ring cover and strap. This way you wouldn't need to buy 2 different products and jerry-rig them to work.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
@@spsnyder2 ah ok. Well, the all in one protectors suffer with 2-3 issues in my opinion. The ring cover is very thin, it can slip, but like my previous comment, that’s not much of an issue, but the thinness vs the halo protector is less protective from a heavy hit contact. Second is the straps they come with. They are thin, does the job, kinda quality. They may do the job for some people but they can be improved on, or replaced with better straps (as per my previous comment). They can be had fairly cheaply over this combo for sure but you do get what you pay for. This combo is the high end in quality and materials. Most all in ones are lower quality with less protection and less overall comfort. Like I said before. If you do go all in one. Look for ones with loops on the grip at the top and bottom. That way you can upgrade the strap. Avoid the ones that loop the strap over the sensor ring.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
I’m still waiting for someone to take the kiwi design and integrate the halo thickness into it to make it a premium all in one protector. That would be the ultimate grip IMO

So why is the kiwi grip better than the VR Cover and AMVR grips?
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
It’s all personal taste. For me the differences between the AMVR setup would be. No need for Velcro fastener on sensor ring. Less bulky in the grip. Better thumb space because of how it fastens at the top. Rubber is better at absorbing sweat. I don’t have the AMVR grips, you can use the wrist straps with it?
@Yipper643 жыл бұрын
@@OQPlay I think all three grips work with the wrist straps. but yeah I get it thank you.

Do u think KIWI design will ever upgrade their pro version to a version with an halo protector integrated ? Like they did with the quest 1 iirc. Looking to upgrade the quest1 kiwi straps , don't like them that much , bit floppy and was looking between this pro version and the vrcover , dunno if I really need halo protectors tho, controllers are pretty solid
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
I would like to think they will. There is another marker that has done something similar but I think the rubber looks too soft and flimsy compared to what Kiwi used. It would be hard to get an all in one cover that carries two types of plastic to match the halo plastic and have a softer plastic for the grip. This might be why we’ve not seen it done yet. For now this combo is a decent halfway house until something like that does release.

I tried to save some bucks and got some cheaper grips w/strap combo but what I found is that my hand extends a good bit past the bottom of the controller. Which means any strap connected where the lanyard normally goes won't work as it drives the hand up into the controller and away from where my fingers need to be when cinched.
@OQPlay3 жыл бұрын
That's a tricky problem to have as I can't think of any grips with straps that extend past the point where it has to connect to the grip at the bottom. A grip/strap that has a strap adjustment at the bottom where you can make it looser might work. That way the strap will allow you to grip the controller at its lowest point whilst the strap itself cradles your back of your hand.
