Those hemp wicks are a scam the way they’re advertised. They dont save money and theyre not healthier or cleaner than a butane lighter at all. But having it to save butane and be a potential emergency fire starter? Thats smart.

Ive smoked for over half my life and never had a problem lighting my lighter with the safety on it. we used to make fun of the people who took their safety off at parties and shit. "im fucking badass, i take my safety off my lighter, fucking badass bro" we basically used it as an insult to people like calling someone a pansy for not being able to light it with the safety on. even used it to put down people who didnt smoke saying "they probably take the safety off their lighter". yeah stupid and petty but I still think its pretty pointless to take it off. also i live in Canada and the cold has never hindered my ability to light my lighter. lol

@@Bwk-mj4pm just to add some context, yeah i was stupid and a kid. I obviously don't do that now which i though was clear when i said "used too" and "yeah stupid and petty" but i guess not. I just thought it was a funny story from my younger days when people who where usually my friends, did something dumb but they thought it was awesome is usually when we'd make the joke, its pretty harmless dude. And it usually got laughs because I lived in a small town with a tight nit group of friends that all knew the joke And also I absolutely refuse to give former smokers/non smokers cigarettes when they ask for one because smoking is stupid and i'll make my own bad decisions but i wont help someone make theirs. and I still stand by my thought that taking off the safety is pointless as they really don't hinder the operation of the lighter unless you're a child in which case they shouldn't be operating one anyways let alone have access to one. yeah I coulda used better wording in my first post but with a little context you should be able to see i wasnt just being a dick to random people.

I have been a commercial fisherman for twenty years. On a boat in Alaska. Taking off the child safety, allows the water to get on the striker. And if it's salt water, it will corrode the flint almost instantly. Without it a lighter doesn't last one shift. Left on, I've had them last 2 or 3 months. I wrap black tape around mine, with a loop of ganion. And wear it as a necklace. It keeps it warm . When butane lighters or propane torches get cold, they don't work very well, if at all. They both have a high evaporation temperature. Relative to combustible fuel.

I can't count how many times I've used someone's bic, flicked it, realized it still had the safety strip on it, pulled out my knife and pried it off infront of the owner, throwing a fit because, "DONT BREAK MY LIGHTER!". Gave it back to them so they could test it and saw the watershed moment where they realized they've been living life wrong for there entire life.

I remember when they added that part to the lighter shortly after they began using fix they thought it was too easy for children so they added that and I always delete it

Came here to write just that. I guess we're both old enough to have been around pre childproofing. It was always the first thing my dad removed when he bought a lighter - somehow my child fingers could handle it but his couldn't and it was the source of a lot of cussing by him. Lot of good that childproofing was.

Nobody has ever said this but being a chronic beer drinker I have learned that keeping the safety on your lighter makes it easier to open beer cans. You can pry it and pop the tab right open no problem.

“I practice other methods in case this doesn’t work” *pulls out clipper lighter
@joelglanton6531
@joelglanton6531 Жыл бұрын
Clippers are trash. The flint needs to be the perfect size and the spring needs to be exerting the perfect pressure on it or else it won't light, and the nozzle gets clogged after a while. Take your clipper apart and throw the flints away, then try to get it to light reliably with a replacement flint, I dare you.
@oligould8575
@oligould8575 Жыл бұрын
@@joelglanton6531 yea they’re not perfect… was mostly a joke that the other method would just be a different brand of lighter They’re not all bad though… they have the tilt feature which releases more gas if you tip it upside down. And I have actually replaced the flint with a slightly smaller one from an empty disposable lighter, and gotten it to light reliably… it can totally be done
