One camera I forgot to mention that is worth looking into is the Panasonic S5. It's like a newer, full-frame version of the GH5 but also full-frame and costs around $2k. I just ordered one so a review video coming soon.

Finally! Someone recommending the Panasonic S5! It's actually on sale at B&H at $1900. Comes with a 20-60mm kit lens and a 85mm (1.8)lens!!

@@Churchfront their single focal length lenses are premium lenses. 24mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, and 85mm 1.8 are all high end lenses, just happen to be affordable! They were actually designed with video in mind which is why they are all the same weight an length so that changing them out on a gimbal is a breeze. The 20-60 though? no ha ;) Cody just replaced his personal EOS R with an S5. Where the BMD cameras have a leg up is essentially zero output lag through HDMI, where Sony and Pany hybrid cameras have some output latency. Fine for live stream, but not great for IMAG.

Just wanted to leave a resounding review behind the BGH1. We started with just one to try out with our streaming platform and at the very least would have it as an upgrade to our creative pieces. We ran into some scaling issues now that we were trying to run our projects at 4k from our older cameras, so really weren’t able to let the BGH1 really shine to its fullest yet. Come the new year, head pastor and technical committees were so impressed with the very clear quality difference we were getting in our creative pieces over before that they prioritized further purchase of 3 more. Church tech is usually one of those areas that only gets feedback from the congregation if something goes wrong, but after our first weekend we had so many emails saying they couldn’t believe how good things were suddenly looking. So not only is the congregation happy, but we as a tech staff are actually having real fun with the amount of flexibility they have provided us. I’ve been doing church media for 20 years and this is probably the most impactful upgrade the congregation has noticed except for maybe the addition of streaming itself. You won’t be disappointed in this camera or probably any of the LUMIX line.

For everyone else who does not want to fool around with lenses, who need a lense with a wide zoom range 20x, 30x parfocal zoom, who need consistent and smooth push pulls and pans in dynamic live environments or multi venues that are not fixed with smooth and consistent zoom and focus demands/controls, definitely check out 1 inch or greater video camcorders. Sony, Canon, Panasonic and JVC fixed camcorders have great performance even in low light. My church has Sony NX100's that work just fine. The Sony Z150 is excellent in low light and used by many professionals. Panasonic CX350 is very nice, JVC HC500U is nice. If you have the money the best camcorder right now is the Canon XF605 excellent low light, image and features. These camcorders are much easier to tripod in a manned multicam setup with focus and zoom controls than any DSLR. Live video production does not benefit from shallow depth of field in fact it makes it harder to focus. In my experience a clean shot is a shot where all is in focus and the focal plane is not shallow or short. The larger the sensor size the shallower depth of field is and while that looks fine for movies it is unnatural for live video production. I was seriously considering the BMD studio 4K pro for a new multicam conference setup I'm working on and thankfully I watched Doug Johnson Productions video on MFT. All he does is live video multi cam production. Look up the video. Not recommended sadly as the only powered lenses are very low quality. Maybe fine for fixed locked down setups but otherwise a Sony Z150 or Canon XF605 is the way to go. Sadly the next jump up to actual production cameras the costs quadruple so out of the budget of most churches.

Hey, we do a lot of outdoor live events like weddings and funeral services. We use Sony HXR-NX100 Full HD for 3 reasons. 1) A fully charged battery can last over six hours without plugging into power, sometimes funeral events can go up to 8 hours. 2) Full HDMI out 3) SDI out which can run for long distance. Also I don't have to worry about camera blacking out. I have done 8 hours non stop and had no issues with the camera. We wanted to purchase some GH5 because of portability and Full HDMI output. Question: how long can a battery last 2) can a gh5 run for over 5 hours without blacking out. Thanks for your advise

It is somewhat unfortunate, that there are only a few VISCA-IP-controllable PTZ camera mounts out there. Actually close to none. there are motor heads that can hold DSLR or box-style cameras, but most of them do not support VISCA. And all of them are pretty expensive. The thing is, live-streaming usually comes on top for my clients. I'm not into the church thing. So clients would have to pay me camera operators, and they simply don't. Sometimes I operate 3 PTZs and the video switching in parallel, and this only works out when you can zoom remotely, but also store camera PTZ positions to recall quickly. The image out of most PTZ sucks badly. I wish I could combine my Z Cam E2Cs with a PTZ something. Compared to up-to-date film making options, the E2C is rather weak, but it outpeforms most affordable PTZs right away. Plus it is remote-controllable via browser, and also via an HTTP query protocol for automation.

Do you think the Black Magic 6K pro is a good investment for live stream?

Caleb Pike reviewed it and said the picture was awesome but the ergonomics were pretty terrible. If it’s to be mounted on a tripod it would probably do well but if it were me I’d just go with the regular 6K and spend that saved $400 on a better lens. A few more budget options: Lumix G7/G85/GX85 14-42mm and 45-150mm Lenses - $1000 (Amazon or check Offerup usually ~$500) - all of these cameras work great. Lumix GH4 12-35 Lens F2.8- $1000 - $1500. (Best Buy/Amazon/Offerup) Canon m50 with stock zoom lens 55 - 200 - $800 - $1200 (Amazon/Offerup/Ebay) Avipas PTZ camera 10x Zoom 1080 - $620.00 (Amazon) You can add the joystick to this for $280.00 If your lighting is really good all of these cameras will work for a solid 1080 broadcast.

Just a comment about a reason to use PTZ cameras. I am aware that they are maybe not the best quality but.....we just don't have the volunteers for our tech as we are a smaller church. The PTZ cameras enable different shots to be saved on presets so one operator can trigger presets and switch between various different views. With 2-3 cameras we can switch between multiple different wide and close up shots. We also have a follow cam PTZ that tracks the speaker on the platform. All this is operated by one person at the switcher and enables us to create something hopefully more engaging.
