Square off the spine of striker with a grinder or sharpening stone. They are stamped manufactured thus have rolled edge by default. Plus the paint on them makes them even rounder. Sharpen its spine.

I have the same one and the scraper worked just fine with for me, no issues.

At least you explained that you enjoyed doing it this way. I think the biggest problem I have with any of these fero rod/magnesium type of firestarters, is that if you are prepping to take all of this stuff with you, just take a storm lighter/jet lighter, and it will light anything in pretty much any weather conditions.it’s not as though a ferro rod is traditional like a Flint and steel - it is a very modern man-made item. So just use a gas lighter.

I keep a arc lighter in my coat which is useful at time. Sometimes it’s good to struggle as well

This is not a bad piece of kit. The back side of a two inch piece of hacksaw blade makes a better scraper. You want tiny magnesium curls, not a powdery substance. Wrap the handle with some duct tape. Tear off a couple of inches and scrape the magnesium onto the sticky side. The wind won’t blow it away as easily, and the tape is a flame extender if you only have marginal tinder. 👍🏼👍🏼

I’ve always found those strikers suck. And I prefer a thicker ferro rod over having the magnesium.

Think the rod is smaller as it dosent take much to start it off. Also saves weight. I use my uberleben hexi rod as my go to rod

Got it off Amazon uk. If your in the states it should be there. If not there is a company I think is called “survival fire starters” or something similar they do one as well
