Got New York through The Great Depression and World War II. But left Robert Moses, who built all those pools, bridges and highways, unchecked....!

I'm reading "The Power Broker", it didn't say enough about LaGuardia beyond the context of his interactions with Robert Moses, but I was absolutely stunned by how much corruption there was before (and after) his administration. Like if you ever think the government is inefficient and corrupt now, you have no idea what a cesspool it was just 100 years ago. Really puts things into perspective and shows how society IS improving, despite it not feeling that way a lot of the time.

A truly great Mayor and leader during thes Great Depression and World War II, and great example of Italian--American's contributions to our Great Nation. He would have had a tremendous and positive national impact if not for the prejudice of the day.

He is also the first Jewish Mayor of New York! And he was outspoken against Nazism.

I spent an hour in my room last night talking to Fiorello LaGuardia, and he's been dead for forty years
