Pittsburgh, besides something like their impact sockets or anything without many parts, is generally not very good in terms of quality conteol. I'm a retired auto mechanic and retired handyman, and thought I'd take a look at the crap hitting the stores these days. With the exception of the blowmolded cases, the stack cases just suck the chrome off a knob. Drop one on cement from a foot and you'd have 1-300 tools rolling around loose, covered in thousands of sharp shards of plastic. Fighting drawers would be a nightmare. RE: Crapsman. I lost a literal pound of flesh and gallon of blood to the Gods of Crapsman in the late 70s/early 80s while their tools were evidently made of recycled rebar and tin cans. That little wrench set you showed was ghastly. I still have and use the Ignition Wrench Set from the 1971 set of Craftsman tools my parents gave after graduation from UTI Phoenix. They were thin and highly polished with one angled and one 90 degree open end. Why they're still being sold, especially in such horrid state, in the new century, I'll never know. I'm a fan of HF, and own maybe 400 of their tools. I bought 5 sets of different length combo wrenches. Not one of them has broken in up to 50 years. The little set in the Pittsburgh kit were likely very strong wrenches but not up to your visual requirements. ;) l like the grainy, semi-polished wrenches because they aren't as slippery as something like the finger-slicing-thin, shiny/slippery chrome wrenches from Snap-Off. And I could buy a whole 19pc set of Pittsburgh wrenches for LESS than the price of a single Snap-Off wrench. I think I'd hate trying to even use the Husky set. Pittsburgh would be my choice.

I like Pittsburgh kit it's space efficient especially for carrying it around in vehicle it tuck away good vertical between rear captain chairs or behind rear captain chair or flat on cargo bay or vertical tied to side or under cargo floor. Mine has all ratchet replaced with professional series finer Tooth before I even took it home. they all snap in perfectly except quarter which need like two or three layer of electric tape around neck to snap in the case. I replaced foam with cardboard almost immediately pieces never fall out. My wrenches are stamped but it's must be older kit thing. The hex keys are deleted and storage compartments are used to store full set quarter inch adapter for impact/drill (husky is strongest than makita/Milwaukee etc.) and reverse/up size adapters like to use half inch socket on 3/8 ratchet or extension.

That gunmetal chrome crapsman set would be great if the ratchets weren't terrible. I buy one of the black Friday sets every year. I was torn between the crapsman and gearwrench a year or two ago so I bought both. Gearwrench doesn't have as many sockets but zero filler and the quality is excellent. I go for my gearwrench ratchets and sockets before any of my truck brands. Lowes warranty process is annoying. I didn't even bother replacing the ratchets after they broke the second time.

Thanks for the review! I was hoping to see some made in the USA Craftsman for the holidays. I would guess that Stanley and Crescent haven't upped their game this year. I don't see half as much of either of them as I have before. I would love to have seen how some of the automotive stores house brand sets would compare, like the Duralast set. I keep hearing about Tekton, Sunex, and Sata too.

Yeah as far as a basic set I have the duralast 1/4 inch drive socket set $24 from auto zone lifetime warranty..so not bad but the first version of the duralast 730-830 series guaranteed for life and plate stamped wear eye protection ratchets are a better ratchet.

It'd be in a higher cost category, but I'd love it if you'd review the Dewalt 192-piece (DWMT75049) set sometime, which often goes on sale for $149 (in years past sometimes $99, but not often enough to be reliable). Also, the Gearwrench 80966 - another pricier one but has all 6-point and very little filler.

The Husky set is a big disappointment this year. I bought the 270 one last year for my brother and it had significantly more sockets and far fewer filler pieces compared to this year. Too bad, because I liked it so much I was going to get one for myself. I've had the Harbor Freight 225 piece kit for several years now and it has served as my main source of mechanical tools. I can certainly vouch for the value and quality of the set (at that price point). You'll need to buy some extra stuff but the 225 kit is a great start. I'm not a mechanic but I do all the maintenance on our vehicles and am looking to retire that 225 piece set to be a car only kit. I picked up the Harbor Freight 301 piece kit which has an excellent socket selection, but everything else is just OK. Box wrenches were the lowest quality I've ever felt (way lower than on the 225 kit). Screwdrivers were also very basic. I don't need a box wrench set or screwdrivers but if I'm paying for them anyway, I'd like then to be good quality. All that to say, I ordered the Craftsman 308 piece set from Lowes for just $20 more than the Harbor Freight 301 kit ($189). The Craftsman has a few more sockets and overall just had more of what I need. I imagine the sockets will be similar quality to the Harbor Freight kit but I am hoping everything else will be better (it hasn't arrive yet, so we'll see). I also like that it has the storage trays, as I do not need a molded case because the tools will go in my tool chest.

I personally would recommend the gear wrench 106pc. set. I’m not a fan of the case but the sockets are great quality and it comes with the 90t comfort grip ratchets. No 1/2” sizes though if you are needing those. The husky set seems nice but there are a lot of duplicate sockets in 6pt and 12pt. If you need 12pt that’s a different story. Hope that helps

I’d go husky, wrenches are really great! The case isn’t bad, the 3/8 drawer in the video was placed backwards, that’s why he had trouble putting it back in. Also there are plenty of Home Depot everywhere so they are lifetime anything goes wrong you just get it swapped

I know he is specifically comparing the sets. But Kobalt has some pretty good tools quality wise. Made in Taiwan vs these are all made in China. Craftsman 10yes ago (2012-2013) 90% of hand tools were still made in USA. Since sears went bankrupt they got sold off and now all made in china. But for a basic weekend DIY these aren't bad. I went kobalt and built from there. Kobalt doesn't have as many hand tools but make a good base set imo.
