As a combat veteran, I dealt with anxiety, depression and a lack of motivation for years after service. About 8 months ago I started hiking once a week to now several times a week and it has been the best thing for me mentally and physically. This channel has helped me a lot with motivation and so much more. I had to buy a hat and merch from the store as a way to say thank you!

Hiking and walking are great. I try to give thanks during my walks, and the things to be grateful for always outnumber the negative. I also spend a lot of time at home walking on my manual treadmill. I rather walk on it than run on hard concrete.

If you don't already, focus on diet. Me and those demons you speak of were bad friends for decades; off/on every med, benzo, op, all of it was a broken loop. I now only eat real food, period & years of issues are melting away. I think it's one of the most talked about topics but most don't take it serious. Stay strong out there.

@@taylormichael2313Thank you for the advice! I can really improve my diet for sure. One thing that has helped me a ton was I stopped drinking alcohol years ago now and I haven’t looked back.

I used to exercise alot, back in high school I was in the best shape of my life physically and mentally in my wrestling team, I was evolving. To make a long story short I had some unfortunate things happen in my life that made me have to move to another country and my life turned upside down, got out of shape mentally first, then physically. I miss running for laps, exercising for hours on end to look forward to that precious 1 minute water break of cold water going down your throat. The sweating, the euphoria of exercise with other like minded warriors. It's been several years now and I've just been doing calisthenics every week, it's nothing crazy compared to what I used to do in highschool especially with me being an adult now. I developed an irrational phobia of suffering a cardiac event while running alone or doing an intense exercise alone so I don't workout like that anymore, not from lack of desire though, if I could I would run, lift, and just sweat all day, it's something I love but can't do in the country I'm in. My advice is if you have close friends that love working out too to just do daily workouts together and push each other to your limits, it's the only way to reach your highest potential, to keep evolving.

I had a dog that could tell when I was starting to get angry... she sensed it and she started putting her paw on my forearm. Which kind of broke my train of thought and disrupted the mindset. Once I Realized how often this was happening I really was able to focus on changing the way I was thinking. I'm much happier now.

I’m a 22 year veteran of the Marine Corps. This is solid advice. I lost my father when I was 11 years old. Back then, the adults around me, to include teachers, didn’t give a hoot about my mental health. So, I focused on being a great Coronet player. I sucked bad, but I focused on improving. I also joined my junior high football team, and excelled at it. I then began to run. I was undefeated in the 7th and 8th grade in a huge school district in Texas, in the 800. I played basketball with a city league team, I sucked! But I didn’t get cut. I lived to go to practice every night. To work hard, to ride the bench. Didn’t matter. I got grittier. Today, I ride the hell out of my mountain bikes and enjoy hiking. I also pray. And try to be of service to others in everything I do. It’s worked for me. I’m professionally successful, especially now as a nasty civilian. Yet, when I get down mentally, I quickly cowboy up and remind myself that my dad died when I was 11 and that I’ve made him proud. Going out to ride my mountain bike now. It’s a beautiful Saturday morning 😊

Thanks Chadd. I deal with depression. From some bad stuff I won't mention, loss of my son 2 years ago, being a caregiver for my disabled wife and dealing with chronic pain myself. The one thing I do is keep myself in the Bible and pray constantly throughout the day. I would love to hear more on tools, tips and techniques you use and some of the struggles you have. Especially how your faith helps. 2 Corinthians 1:1-4 - 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Without saying too much I was on the chopping block to be fired after 35 years of outstanding performance evaluations because I refused to take a flu shot. I was treated like a leper having to wear a damn mask at work while others who had the flu shot did not. 59 years old and hit my first round of depression in my life. Exercise was the best treatment you could ask for. I started lifting weights and running for the first time in my life. Eventually won my exemption to the flu shot and back on track but I still keep the exercise with me. Only advice for people is you would be surprised how many people you think are your friend will put a knife in your back when things get tense. True friends will alwayse be there to help you and stand up for you.

However, I have three dogs that I think help with stress and anxiety more than the therapy sessions. Thanks again!!

From my experience throwing hand grenades will give you some sort of a concussion anyone who has thrown them I’m sure are aware of that. I remember the first time we did Claymore training we set those suckers off it was raining kind of foggy, and I actually seen the air move at a tremendous force. That was the first time I realized how powerful, these weapon systems are as small as they are! Don’t kid yourself they damage your bodies soft tissue. What does the military do for you? I think we know that answer.

Thanks for sharing, in this world, sometimes I'm all alone in this. Mental health is not pills, junk food, perverted sexual behavior, or constant intoxication. It is exercise, self sufficient lifestyle, connection and love(in the form of action(s)), taking responsibility for yourself and those who are incapable of self sufficiency, i.e. garden, animals, children. Dr.s treat sick ppl, they don't want you to get healthy. The medical industrial complex needs you to pay insurance, co-pays, vote for more government subsides, don't play a game that's run and rigged by the same ppl .

@@foresthiker6707 God bless you and I’m sorry for your loss. I know how painfull that is. For me I am not a people person. So my bond with animals is very strong. We lost our beloved greyhound 6 months ago. He had a Grand Mall Seizure. We rushed him to an animal hospital. He had brain damage. Could not walk or see, so we had him put down. I still feel the loss every day. It’s getting better. I didn’t want another dog for a while but the rescue we are with had a dog who desperately needed a home. He has been in 5 different homes in a few years. He has behavioral problems. We have no kids and no cats. So we were his only chance. He has been in a kennel for 6 months. It has been stressful but he is coming around. He can relax now and run and have fun.

This is more useful to your audience than what caliber pistol to have as a bed side gun. Men have been coming home from war ever since we stood upright. We’ve had to learn how to put down the sword and pick up the plow! As a Corpsman I did raids, patrols and ambushes every night for a total of 25 months. We had a 17 plus % contact rate in out TAR… so my hearing was the first to go. Same deal… about 10% on the left and 48% on the right. I went to night law school. Worked supporting and keeping a family together at the same time. Four years four night a week. Took summers off. Harder than UDT or BUDS! One of the saddest days: Ran into a guy I served with homeless and begging at a street corner in El Paso. I took him in for a while and then he moved on. He had been brilliant in my Hospital Corps school in Balboa. I think that we can all learn and maybe teach emotional and attitude self determination. We can be what we need to be to keep going and lead a good life after the bullets stop flying! You’re on the right track.

40% rated here from a shoulder injury and hearing loss. went to the VA for my shoulder for the first time and had to see my PCP doc first. she was 300 lbs of wadded up bubble gum, still wearing that face diaper. all she did was click boxes and followed her algorythm. she got an attitude with me, because i called her to the carpet about going back on her word to get an MRI of my shoulder. anywho, got the MRI done and my shoulder has a supraspinatus full tear and SLAP tear of my labrum. suffer from PTSD, mulitple concusions from racing BMX, blah blah blah...but as Chad said...man, physical training is what keeps my sanity!!!! not pills, not weed...i either go to the gym, hit the stair mill, go for a run, lift heavy stuff and sweat!!! that's the best medicine for me.

We're all on a path a discovery in ourselves. Every day, I try to be the best man I can be. It started on the side of the road in my Chevy 4×4 when I was 24. I'm 70 now Still strong and healthy. I'll never give up. Never go gentle into the good night. I'm glad I found your videos.

I love your podcasts. So refreshing to get content with substance. Eating the bread is central to all healing. As the widow of a Vietnam s2 scout Marine Corps vet, I emphasized.

I would like to hear more. I’m not a veteran, but a human. Pain is universal. My 10 and your 10 on the pain scale is the same pain. Yes you may have had a more traumatic experience, but a 10 is a 10. Thank you.

Great Advice ! As an Exercise Therapist for nearly 30 years, I've been telling all of my clients that 'simple outside activities' will help so much more than they believe. It has changed the lives of so many people, including my own. Keep up with the positive mind set, and good luck on your journey through life.

I totally agree on exercise, also keep toxic people out of your life. Way too many people will suck your soul dry if you let them.

I've always found goats to be the clowns of the barnyard. And my service dog was my liberty and freedom during her time as my hearing and mobility dog. I have a great medical team, a chiropractor, physical therapist, and a functional medicine Doc. And I'm learning that a lot of healing can take place with a new approach and fresh eyes. It takes many eyes on a patient to truly see them. Don't be afraid to raise your health level just one more notch. Where you are, may not necessarily be where you need to stay.
