I might be wrong here, however, he only reviewed the one boya Mic. Then just guessed on how the other ones sound. this shotgun mic MIGHT sound like this rode one or MAYBE SOUNDS LIKE THIS like this one. This one has alot of reviews on Amazon. This video seems very misleading to me. It is mostly conjuncture. The quality of the video is good. Also the production value of the boya review was very well done. Thank you for that Boya microphone review. I might even go buy it That being said, recommending products you have not even used is super shady.

@MajorTomMusic4 жыл бұрын
@@Sir-Kay Well, that it's wired, is sort of given. That might be an advantage actually, because analog radio systems produce noise, digital are expensive. And the greatest drawback of radio mics -- is you have to charge them before use! That pisses me off, personally. As for the background noise, that you mentioned, it does not really depend on the mic, it's your environment. The mic is only responsible for frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio. Try using some audio gate plugin, you'll love the result. I would agree with you, however, that we should not expect much from a China made $20 mic. I am a sound engineer who recently started blogging, I am learning video editing. So I know the sound part better. I listened to a bunch of Boya M1 reviews, and I don't really like the sound. In my opinion it lacks the bass at least. The quality of the sound isn't great either overall, compared to what I'm used to. I think I'll look into some Shure mics. For my music recordings I use R0de and Neumann mics. I think Neumann is overpriced, but R0des are just great.

Verified purchaser! :-) I bought the first 2 mics reviewed here (after watching some previous videos from Sean). I like the Boya. It really does sound good for the price, WAY better than any build-in camera mic. Plus, the super long chord lets you film far away from the camera/phone if needed. I also purchased the Takstar. It works pretty darn good. Like most shotgun mics, you have to be close like a couple of feet or so to get the best sound. These are two solid mics for the price to learn with. Even if you upgrade later, it's great to have back ups like these in your bag.

Been using whatever my camera mic has Sony HDR-CX150(camera is old) and Go Pro, then creating voice over with the Tascam DR-05 hand held recorder mounted in a foam padded box. However needed a change. In an effort to create better content, I recently spent around $200+ on an Audio Technica AT2020 Condenser Mic, Focusrite Scarlette Solo, and associated hardware for mounting to my desk and input to my computer. Just playing with it for a few minutes the playback blows away what I have previously accomplished! Like he said, you get what you pay for! That's my stationary setup, as for mobile? This lavalier shown might be just what I need. however, are there any other lavalieres(lets say no more than $60) that would be recommended to input into a handheld recorder? looking more for quality more than price.

Hi Sean. Me again! Are you a mind reader. I got a SeaCue clip mic for Christmas (£10) which has massively improved my audio quality (iPhone 6s atm). What I’m really after, and money isn’t really a problem (up to £200) for a wireless/Bluetooth mic. About 70% of my video can be shot at arms length for selfie shot. I’m a gardener so almost all of my video is shot outside and I can’t do some of my video, the way I really want to as I’m tied to my phone. I’d love to hear some ideas for a cordless lapel type mic that can free me up and let me move about. I’ve looked but I can’t be looking for the right thing as I’ve come up with nothing. Thank you 👍

Ive got the Boya. It does have great sound. A couple of things I don't like about it: 1) Ive lost the foam cover so it tends to pick up noise if the wearer moves around a bit and their clothes scratch against it, 2) the person must put it on. They cannot just take it and talk into it. I had one impatient interviewee ruin the sound because they didn't want to clip it on and they held it too close to their mouth, 3) the cord is EXTREMELY long and thus a bit cumbersome I like the following mics for my iphone and video camera (camcorder - I don't use a DSLR) A). I have this little Insignia Directional mic which plugs into the mic slot on my iphone. It looks similar to the Rode minimicme iphone boom mic but is way cheaper and sounds way better. I use it when vlogging with my iphone - I have lens attachments that cover up the built in mic on the phone. The sound is great and it's so easy to use. I think it was $19.99 at Microcenter. Very portable - it lives in my bag and travels with me every day, along with my fisheye lens and my phone B). For USB "studio" recording I don't really like the big condensor mics. I think they are way oversensitive and pick up every little noise if you are recording in a normal house not a professional recording studio (as most people are). They will especially pick up any noise from your computer, your chair squeaking, anyone in your house walking by your door... You also have to put your face really close to them (to get them to pick up your voice at the proper volume) which looks dumb, i think I do have one little condensor mic - the Samson Go Mic, which was $39.99 at Microcenter. The sound is fine. It's compact and easy to travel with and doesnt take up a lot of room on my desk. But I might return it because I just got C). The best possible option. The combo of the Audio Technica ATR 2100 (abt $60 on Amazon) with the iRig Pre amp for iPhones ($39.99 on Amazon). The 2100 is a DYNAMIC mic so it's not as sensitive as the condensors but it sounds GREAT. It's got an XLR connector, which is, according to everyone at Guitar Center, the best and most professional type of connector. With the iRig I can connect an XLR mic right into my iPhone (and give it power - powered by a simple 9 volt battery!) The iRig has an option to boost the power +48V, which results in an awesome and powerful sound. The 2100 also comes with a USB connection so I can use it on my computer. It's a bit heavy but the "handheld" style so I can use it for both interviews and in a stand or mount at home. I would say get the insignia for now and save up for the other stuff! Skip the Boya and get the Insignia
@CodeDeb7 жыл бұрын
I have also got a little lightweight handheld AT mic which plugs directly into my video camera or I can use with my iPhone with a Rode convertor cable (either SC3 or SC4 - I forget $9.99 on Amazon). It's what I have been using (since the Boya disaster) It is fine but a little under powered (it is powered by a battery). I always have to "up" the volume on the audio track when I use that one. It's great to travel with though because it's very lightweight. For the same reason it is good for doing long interviews - my arm doesn't get tired! It's the AT pro 24 and i think it's omnidirectional. It was abt $70 at the local music store. As for the iRig another great advantage - you can plug in a headset and check your audio on a recording without having to unplug the device from your phone. You are supposed to be able to monitor your sound as you record. That doesnt seem to work. It's always my fear that I will record an entire interview without sound, so I'm sorry I can't seem to get that aspect to work...

I just got an A.Lav and tried it on iPhone and Canon 5Dmk2. It is louder when plugged in directly than when through their power supply. Why is that?

Love the Boya, I have been using it for several years now and have been really happy with the sound. I recently upgraded to the RODE witless filmmaker kit, but the Boya still gets a lot of use as a backup kit paired with a Zoom H1N. One thing to note, the cord on the Boya is CRAZY long!

Hi, would the TAKSTAR SGC-598 or the Pixel MC - 50 be better for the Canon 70D? Currently have the RODE VideoMicro.

Thank you for this video, I am looking for something like the Boya, that perhaps works via bluetooth. Is there someything like that around? I teach virtual classes and need to move around, but would really like to improve the sound quality.

Check out the Rode Wireless Go mic. That'll suit your needs the best.

Ho Sean, I just bought this Boya mic after seeing your video. I am getting too much noise. Is that normal? How to get rid of that noise?

Canon 70d has bad sound, lav or not. Try a zoom on that lav, with a little mix and it should be better than the other shotgun mic you use. Try it !
