I like the Anytone 878 dplus. True, it can be a pain to program it, but it works great and has great battery life. It also has DMR and APRS. It may not be the fanciest radio but it may be the most functional.

Hello Hayden/Teo. Happy that you both did this video. I bought the Yaesu FT-5DR the same time as Hayden. The difference is I paid $25.00 more online. Yes the only thing I did was take a picture of it and post it on my QRZ page. I haven't sold my FT-3DR so I still used it. I do also have the old generation Kenwood TH-D74. @@HamRadioDX Unfortunately YES. Cause I was planning to sell my FT-3DR and change my mind. I do also have a ICOM IC-9700 and a XEIGU G90 w/ the CE-19 and Cooling Fan. I purchased both back in 2020. I do not have room on my table right now. The pictures in my QRZ Page does not show the Elecraft KX3 & PX3 in front of the FTDX-10 and the FTM-400 in front of the 2x FT-857D. I will need to move the Mobile Radios in order to accommodate the IC-9700. I love your video w/ Teo. And not bothering to watch w/c I watch from beginning to end. Stay Safe. 73 Ruben KD6CWI

The receive sensitivity of "brand name" ham radios is noticeably better than UV5Rs. If you only have a UV5R you will never understand how much better the other brands are. The radio hobby is much more satisfying when you are able to hear more stations. You hear more stations when your receiver is more sensitive.

The simplist HT I had was a Kenwood 2m single analogue band. For some new hams, the better choice might be a VHF mobile as a portable or base radio. I use my Yaesu FT2800m more than HT's, set at 10w with a roll-up J-pole. My older Kenwood HTs can run on 12V where other brands only charge on 12V. Not sure of the current Kenwood HTs.

I have a love/hate relationship with my ft3dr! I love the feature set, but the menus suck and are very confusing, even with the nifty guide. I love how easy Fusion is to use. I tried dmr back in 2017 and hated it. Now I'm considering an Anytone 878 hoping the dmr part is easier now. That being said, is there a good alternative to the ft3dr from yaesu or someone else with similar features?

I have Yeasu FT5D, Icom ID52A, Kenwood D75A, and Alinco MD5, Use these with a Open Spot 4 Hotspot, now my D75 can also do Thermal Mode through Bluetooth, the Icom ID-52A with have this Feature on the Next Firmware update,

You should also look at the classic radios from the big vendors, yaesu vx series, etc

I would advance the idea that before buying a radio it would be worth investing in an SDR in order to be able to see if local repeaters exist and if they are actually being used. If they are quiet just move to HF directly. 2m and 70cm where I live are all but dead, a local NET once a week and that's it.

Motorola don't manufacture the equipment here no more than manufactured I think in China or Malaysia some of the raiders are Chinese made some of them I made in Malaysia!

Admittedly the 5D (as well as the 2 & 3D) require a bit complex menu to facilitate all of the functionality and settings. But confusing?? Really? I’m rolling my eyes at you 🙄 😆
