I don't mind "cheap" radios but the UV-5R and all that generation shouid be laid to rest. The Quity has improved and the menu has too. Thw best part its just a few bucks more.

Before telephone poles were grounded. They would explode when there was a storm. So they added ground. Which didnt solve the issue but mimimized the explosions. Hope this helps.

Might be a good idea for you to put an RF attenuator like 30 DB in front of the input. Yes the input may be rated for this, but from years of experience switch your base to milliwatts add using attenuator

Kristen, your glasses are the most invisible I've ever "seen". That said, I used to use rimless back in the John Lennon days and people would see his photo on my wall and think the photo was of me. Grounding that seems to help involves a lightning rod as high as possible about 100 ft from your station. It is constantly pulling static sparks into the ground. You hope its never really hit with lightning ! It does it job and makes a dome of discharged energy around you. I've had really good luck. I can hear it discharge the fields when they come near, a funny sounding screechy sound, like a car door that needs lubrication very badly. N6GRG

One of the reasons I went with the ftdx101D and not the 7610 earlier this year, was fit and finish. The FTdx101D just has a more premium look and feel, knobs are not sloppy and no piano black. Looking at the plastic look on this radio and the need for a cheap plastic stand for the head is depressing for that price point. I’m sure from a functionality perspective this thing is very capable, but for me it’s the total package and at that price it needs to provide a very premium experience… just my opinion. 73s.

Technical question of a reality we only get 2/3 access is rooted in this ground. 3rd & final frontier underpining all physics is in this avenue of answers that on paper determinism of archemedes descrete lines used with 1 to 1 word allocation will not take us much closer to real realism or ending it's just uh ,train, just uh camp, just uh shower no poisoning gas here . The staring at a tree can't see forest because you playing musical chairs between to get answers we want cheating ourselves problems only end when we get the ultimate known answers why emerging energetic actors behave this way. I'd go as far as to say until the rest of the world takes this technical next step they will indeed put there kids kids in very Orwellian future that against all cost Americans will keep its grounding .

I think they jack up the price then mark it down. I compared my previous Amazon orders for RA89 and its "20% off" at $104, which is the same price ive been paying for them previously. I hate this scummy practice. The HD1 looks a little less, usually pay like $160 for the GPS version not on sale

Thanks for the heads-up! One note, in the US the Scotch 33+ tape is available at Home Depot for $5.98 for a 66' roll. The Black Friday deal is great for big volume consumers but for a lot of us 10 rolls is many years worth of tape and would start getting weird with the center squeezing out before being used.

It looks more compact than the 705. I laugh when Yaesu call it a FT-818 replacement, it isn't simply because it will cost a huge amount more and it's got a lot of features a lot of people don't want or need and the 818 with a mic processor would have been all the radio many people would have ever needed. We see the same tactics in the Auto Industry, simple cars are gone, cars now have more and more tech shoved in people's faces, cars are now entertainment centres and many parts are really expensive to replace, for example, many car headlights can't be replaced without the main dealer coding the headlight to the cars main computer. Anyone familiar with motorcycles will see the exact same thing happen with Honda for example, they replaced their much loved Deauville NT750 with the NT1100 and called it a Deauville replacement but it's a much more expensive bike with a bigger engine and a lot more tech TFT screens etc, they can charge much more for it, one reason the old bikes are so popular is due to their simplicity. While I've no doubt the 1F will be an amazing radio, Yaesu need to come up with a much cheaper radio or they will force a lot of people to buy Chinese radios.

You don't have a clue what your going on about I hope you never to any electrical work I would not trust you to wire a plug. All you say is well I don't know am not sure. Ground is just that a ground it is not a return path it is a zero reference it also used for screening in electronics we use a star grounding. We also have virtual grounding in rf systems. You need to spend about 10 to 15 years to even start to understand it. In 3 phase we can have 4 lines or 3 lines. When we use star that you call Y and star and delta are NOT the same. Your dangerous don't ever do electrical work. The voltage on the primary side dose effect the secondary side. You need to be tagged and locked up for the safety of man kind. The GFI as you call them we call them RCD the way they work is using current in is equally the same as coming back. Will detect a current leakage such as a person touching a live terminal or damage to the system and imbalance so it trips.

Reminds me of the DIY project with repurposing a computer power supply where have -12vdc, -5vdc, +3vdc, +5vdc, +12vdc... so if you want to power a 24vdc fan, you'd attach the fan negative wire to the -12vdc power supply terminal and the fan positive wire to the +12vdc power supply terminal. The difference of voltage between +12vdc and -12vdc is 24vdc overall--the "ground" is relative and I guess you could also call it a "floating" ground due to this relativity. Another recently interesting discovery of mine has to do with a series array of "hot diodes" which can be attached to a heatsink for heating purposes and directly powered from a solar panel array. ANOTHER interesting aspect of the series diode array is that it functions like an MPPT Controller AND as a diode provides a consistent voltage drop, you can tap in at various juncture points in the array to obtain various voltages for whatever devices you are powering!!! The voltage drop across the diodes you select for your tap will remain consistent!!! Just do a search for "HOT DIODES"!!!

Very well done Kristen. However, I would NOT remove residential ground connection (for the neutral bonding) - as the whole house these days essentially has the neutral (AC) conductor to enclosures et al which can and HAS resulted in someone standing on Earth / on Basement Concrete 'feeling it'. With regards to lightening protection - did not Tesla move away from sharp rod protection to spherical to cause the lightening to NOT strike that area AT ALL?!
@TerranVisitor2 күн бұрын
Very well done Kristen. In my circuits, I endeavor to use '0V' instead of 'GND'. With regards to 'Earth Ground', I think of it as a local electrostatic commonality (and nothing more) ... As I understand, historically, we once did NOT have an AC grid 'neutral' ground(ed) ... It was discovered that electrostatic / high potential discharges between the AC conductors resulted in insulation breakdown and the formation of an 'arc' where the nominal AC potential would now flow - usually resulting in fire. I have tested / recreated this.

The ground is a point you connect your circuit to a greater mass of electron. This mass of electron is used to temper the ether's caprices.

Huh? Ground isn't a myth.. Ground is the common reference point for the system, including the power company's. If you didn't have this common reference point, nothing would work. Its not a myth. Its a common conductor with high impedance that's commonly 0V relative. Neutral is the same, there's commonly no potential difference between neutral and ground. Its a common conductor with lower impedance than the ground, which acts as a current limiter. They provide the same basic function of returning current, with the ground being a redundant safety connection at the device.

I think that's a new low price for the Delta 2. I bought one in the Prime Day sale back in the summer and it took a coupon to get down to $430 or so.. but the Delta 3 has come out since then. $399 is the lowest I've seen so far. It's a great little unit. I used it to power my fridge during a major outage around one of the hurricanes. We're nowhere near the coasts but we got the winds from it anyways.
