For some time now, I've been listening to these tracks (electronic music) in headphones and they'd have these sounds placed so cool and weird in the mix that, in some cases, I was going like: "Was that coming from the song or was it from outside of the headphones?". And I always wanted to recreate that effect, that placement in the mix, but I never really managed to do it like in those cases. Guess that this plugin from Toneboosters will do the trick for me, its sounds so, so crazy! I was searching for something like this for a long time ago. And it has such a low price for what it does! Hope to not going crazy with it, sometimes I do that when I learn / get something new. Again, I'm very happy for watching your tutorials and finding something really cool. Thank you!

Think of Panning like shifting the volume between the left and right speaker. Say for instance if you pan 50% to the left, the sound is coming at full volume from the left and around half the volume from the right, but our ears perceive it as one sound coming from the left and vice versa. Just my input.

With the first technique, I see the advantage of spreading the sound but "frequency speaking", is this acceptable for making room for vocals since, technically, it's removing it from the center or is it just a perceived removal from the center of the mix.

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Any thoughts on how the Isone trick translates to speakers, since it's a binaural processor (if i understand it correctly)? Sounds really great here, but are there pitfalls to watch out for, given the fact that binaural works best (?) with zero cross-feed? All the best, Erik

Hey +MixbusTV ! Thank you! Your videos are a good source of inspiration to learners like myself. I have a little(and probably stupid) doubt. ummm, when I tried to do that in a stereo instrument track, it didn't work. Can you please explain me Why? Also, I did not quite understand, what role does "mix 0% on left and Mix 100% on right" play? is it the 'dry-wet balance' thing?

Hi Hi! Sorry I’m a little late on this but anyway….I downloaded your video many years ago “BEST MIX TRICKS”! and finally a few days ago wanted to try out TONEBOOSTERS ISONE V3. So I downloaded it. So by the day being FRIDAY THE 13TH what could go wrong?! I can’t buy a license for this plugin to work because the company doesn’t support this plugin anymore! So now for example I wanted to test the Channel mode I hear only STEREO, MONO and left channel. The right channel is disabled and there’s no saving along with other things. So, do you know anywhere I can buy a license? Or do you know of any plugin(s) that work similar? Could REALPHONES be a possibility?! Enjoy your day.

Hey Mr mix bus am enjoying all your videos!!! i use ableton which only has stereo channels and have been trying to follow this vid in my daw, so far i think i've worked out firstly to make the stereo track( mono) to use the utility plug in, then duplicate the channel and put a mono hass delay on each one, then set one with no delay and obviously the other side to taste ..... which gives that impression of the sound coming from one channel first ,,, One question....... do you need to hard pan the opposing channels can't you leave them in the centre and still have the illusion that it's coming from one channel ????
@chri5_dj7 жыл бұрын
i guess also it's that balance between sounding great in stereo and sounding ok when collapsed back into mono there's a fine line there sometimes... Thanks for getting back to me , keep up the good work !!

about using delay trick in inserts for tracks not fx bus binaural pan can you go a bit more into depth about this? Over the past week, I've been in a forum/FB Group and we've been going over a lot of high end things, like using dynamic EQ, and (in Studio One...my DAW) the combination of it's "Dual Pan" and Binaural pan. Essentially duplicating the same process of the plugin you demonstrated. I have limited CPU so actually would prefer these types of techniques to standard panning, and delay. It also seem to me it fits right in with another of your videos, about density of a mix before mastering? Seems to me that with meticulous and careful use of these techniques, I could have both "Depth" in the mix as well as wide space and spacial without burning up my CPU and ram in the process. Then simply reserve the FX buses for when they are absolutely necessary. Am I on the right track (no pun intended there) or am I over thinking again?
@tris42110 жыл бұрын
hey could you explain the second technique to use within logic. I dont have a trim plug in like that i have freeg stereo but it doesn't have the same controls... That seems like a really great trick.

Before seeing this I would pan my dub tracks and harmonies and keep emphasis and lead up the middle. Do you pan vocals in the chorus at all and if so why?
@Sdbbffsd4 жыл бұрын
MixbusTV my work is almost always rap/hip hop btw, so you have a lead center and then LR panned all the way? Or what did you mean by no in between? I thought the trick showed in the video was used instead of the panning knob so as to keep all your center feel and sound and just give the impression of width and space
@brianmahoney83716 жыл бұрын
I think the Isone plugin is worth $40 _alone._ But the great thing is that if you buy Isone, you get 9 other high quality plugins for FREE! Well, kinda... Technically, it's a bundle with 10 plugins. But like I said, I would pay $40 just for Isone So the other 9 are a pretty sweet bonus. Looks like a no-brainer to me: Link to ToneBoosters bundle: www.toneboosters.com/tb_bustools_v3.html (FTR: I am in no way affiliated with ToneBoosters.)
@brianmahoney83716 жыл бұрын
FWIW: You get Reelbus3 with this bundle which is a pretty awesome plugin. _Reelbus4 is out,_ and it costs 30 bucks which isn't bad either. But I _still_ think it's worth it to get this bundle because Reelbus3 was pretty highly acclaimed by a lot of people.

Very cool tut. Phase trick doesn't work in Reaper. Might have to do with the fact that Reaper treats any audio channel as a stereo channel. Have tried to mono it out, send in mono etc.. just doesn't work well in Reaper.
@alxiroi9 жыл бұрын
+MixbusTV Yeah there must be a work around i can use... just have to find it. Thanks for the greats tuts btw (y)
@jonwiest84337 жыл бұрын
This is way late, but for anyone else who wanted to recreate the phase trick in Reaper, maybe the most straightforward method is: 1. Duplicate the track for which you want the effect 2. Invert the phase on one of the two tracks (they should phase cancel) 3. Pan each track hard to one side (the intended effect should be audible now) 4. Add both tracks to a folder track for control over the stereo field. As with most things in Reaper, there are many ways to skin this cat.
