kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYHThWyFbsqfZ8k Just in case you missed the whole point of the video. Consumer playback devices have *nothing* to do with what we use to make, mix and master music. Nothing at all. Unless you believe the "good old analog sound" comes from what the population listen music to and not from what engineers use to make it. It would, be like thinking the dish tastes good because of the fork you use vs what the chef used to make the dish.

@AntonioRockGP 10 сағат бұрын
@mixbustv The dish is good because it has bacon! 😋 Chill, I got the point-you’re right. However, it’s interesting how our ears tend to prefer analog-colored tones over completely clean digital ones. Not the main focus of the video, but maybe something worth exploring.

I currently use the MKII. On new projects the responsiveness and control of detail is great, but as the the CPU usage gets higher, it starts getting harder to make smaller adjustments as it starts getting less responsive. I'm sure that's expected to some degree, but does the MKIII improve in that aspect? (To clarify I'm not talking about the CPU being close to maxed out. The project is still running perfectly fine when it gets to this point.)

I've seen other videos of yours in which you say how much you love it to bring down the peaks in a really good way so I want to ask you: is the plugin good to do that to the point to recommend it? Maybe on the drum bus and on the parallel compression bus for attack it could be good
@mixbustv
@mixbustv 19 сағат бұрын
I honestly don't use the plugin, I tried it, wasn't a fan, that was it. I probably used it once in a mix for who knows what, just cause. Maybe if you spend some time with it it'll work, I don't know. I know if peak control is what you want there's many things better out there, Kclip being the first that comes to mind.

I mix on an API 1608. Mixbuss is an Obsidian into a Dangerous BAX. is there anything I’m missing? I was thinking about maybe getting a Maselec EQ for cutting mid range very cleanly. Tracking and mixing on tape.
@mixbustv
@mixbustv 20 сағат бұрын
That's a solid rig. I'm not the biggest fan of the Maselec, and I feel in your case it would be underused if it's just for that. If anything I'd probably want either a second choice for 2bus compression, you have the VCA, I'd probably want a MU as a second option or a Pultec style instead of the Maselec. Both Gainlab and Stam have a great sounding mid band added to the usual EQP-1 design

Thank you for this video. Cause when I saw the video I went to Beijing with my hip-hop and Afro mix wave files to test the 2 compressors I found out SSL is transparent and grabby on M/S and all engineers agreed, The Ng can't give me what I want on hip-hop and Afro, cause I'm a hip-hop engineer. So I go with SSL i didn't even open it yet 😂 after the order cause the THF cleaned the Bass and drums

Does anyone know if mixes have to be under -14 lufs, or can't hit above that when uploading to KZbin in order for them not to compress the music? It sounds like my mixes are muffled and highly compressed when hearing them back on KZbin? Can anyone drop me some knowledge on this, and does anyone on here recommend or have or know of any really quality budget or mid ranged mini speakers for mixing music? Thanks
@mixbustv
@mixbustv Күн бұрын
No, your mixes don't have to be under -14, I have several videos on this on the channel. Also even if YT would do anything to your mixes they would simply lower the volume, like they do with every other mix out there. They don't "compress" it, they don't muffle it, nothing happens to the mix other than lower volume.

@mixbustv OK, it must be something I'm doing to the output signal from my MPC One headphone jack, into my phone then. I just can't figure out why when I run the sound through a trs splitter, into a mic trs via trrs into the phone, it's doing something strange to the sound. Do you think that could be dropping to a line level that's necessary to record into a phone? I hate to bug, but I just like knowing what I'm doing and asking guys like you that know what they're doing also. I don't mean to nit pick, I just want my music to sound the best it can, so if I ever ask any future questions, that's why. I really want to learn things. Thanks brother.

Can i ask what the low band achieves with those attack times? 300ms is beyond a lot of drums etc so the compressor on that band is aiming to reach full ratio of compression after any kick or snare etc, but if its gonna take so long to release also, will it ever fully release or reach the full ratio? Im just trying to understang what exaxtly will happen and why? I feel like it will just cause the mix level in that band to slowly raise up and down?
@UncleBenjs

Or is this an attempt to only compress and lift the tails or something?
@mixbustv
@mixbustv 13 сағат бұрын
It says in the video, it's used a leveler. Leveler in the original meaning of the word (in audio), a very slow, gentle, MACRO control of dynamic. Which you can also call glue. The point IS that the compressor never releases the material. The material is always under the transfer curve. Compressors are not just for drums, not just for transients (actually they shouldn't be used in place of limiters), and it takes a long time to understand that they change the envelope. That's their main function, that envelope is not just fast audio events, it's (and it was mostly at the beginning) long term audio events. That's also why compressors have different detection methods such as peak, envelope or RMS.

Have you tried the UAD version of this eq? That plugin was actually a pretty big deal for me. For about 10 years I had been on the Slate subscription. I was tired of paying for it because I was only using a couple of things from it, but I needed an eq that could do what the sub band on their custom eq could do on my kick bus. I tried tons of different eqs and nothing could do it until I tried that 50hz band, and so that plugin was what allowed me to cancel the Slate subscriptions would absolutely consider buying a hardware version if this can do that thing even better lol.

Seems like a slight shame that the MQ-2 lacks the harmonic LED indicator light that the MQ-1 has? I know use your ears, but a visual representation like that can be handy for saturation. Does that light on the MQ-1 work well/usefully? Also - assuming there's centre detents on the EQ knobs? Going to buy one of these units, just can't decide which yet.
