Jeff wanted to update my mock licking branch I made last year. I haven't been out to area since the end of last season. I went out Friday and checked to see if vine was still hanging. It was still standing, but the ground was overgrown. I ripped up the ground and re-adjusted the vine as it was sagging. I also urinated in the scrape I made, and put up a camera. I went back the next day to put up my stand, and when I checked the camera I had a nice 10 pt on film hitting that branch. He showed up 2 hrs after I left Friday. I also had 2 smaller back in the area around the branch. I've told guys at work about this technique and they are were in disbelief until I showed them the pictures. Thanks again for the good info.

I did a little experiment last year with scent on Mock scrapes in August. I set two vines up 3 feet apart where I have had a mock scrape in the previous year, on one vine I used Conquest Evercalm scent and applied it 5 inches from the bottm, and left the other vine bare. That night I had multiple deer come through to the scrapes and I had 7 out of 9 deer hit the scented vine and ignored the other. Remember these were brand new vines with no previous natural deer scent on them. I think this is a good option to get deer to start using a newly placed scrape but I would never put it on a second time.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97513 жыл бұрын
We end up having most hit withing a day without. BUT, whichever one they hit first, scent or not...will get favored use. Very cool tho we get them within a day mostly 👍 someone in these comments said 28 minutes with scent on one of his 😁

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 my scrapes were set in a very high traffic area for deer so I'm not sure that it even mattered that I put any scent on it. Jeff I just wanted to say I appreciate your view on everything I grew up in Michigan and that's the only place I've ever hunted so it's rough where I live when it comes to finding big bucks. I spent most of my life hunting my family's property in Clare and the biggest buck I've ever recovered is a six point LOL. I've been watching your videos every night before bed and I'm excited for this season's bow hunt. Who knows how long the sport will be around with the way that Michigan will just let you go out and slaughter every deer you see as long as they get their $20. I will say I've been taking your advice on a lot of different areas and last night I was taking advantage of that Doe permit hunt for early season I had a 10-point come out and walk right up to the water hole standing 18 yards broadside I'm sitting there with a doe permit.. I was lucky enough to hunt those property by taking your advice and knocking on doors I must have knocked on 500 doors but I found a beautiful dairy farm with 340 acres of corn near my hometown of Muskegon Michigan. It's very obvious to me that hunting with food plots and water holes is a whole different ball game than what I'm used to. I've been putting your tactics and advice to use on daily basis . I will try to attach some pictures of the two bucks I seen in the last three sits. Keep the good videos coming I appreciate all your help.

After applying Jeffs principals over the years between the vertical licking branch (always use to use horizontal branches under normal trees they scrape under...with very very minimal success... specifically daylight) and how to read the habitat, this year alone I have had 5 different mature bucks hitting it (using no scents and using a vine). 99% of those bucks have been daylight pics using this method jeff is talking of. Last night I had a monster 10 point come through ( NON CORE BUCK) which was my first nocturnal picture, which I hope to hammer with bow or for MI gun opener. Also have had Skunks, Racoons, Possums, Two black bear, coyotes and a bob cat checking out the scrape. Find the right spot, hang a camera, put a mock scrape out with a vertical licking branch and you'll see the results for yourself... of course only if you hunt smart and dont spook the area ;) THANKS JEFF your knowledge and information when applied has changed my hunting over the years ten fold.

I use your vine concept exactly as you’ve instructed us, it’s awesome. I do find a licking vine or two each year that has been broken or torn down so I’m thinking at some point the bucks must get pretty aggressive and use their antlers to tear them up???
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97513 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, they sure do during the rut! I get a few broken every year for sure. That's why I lean more towards the 1" diameter and make sure it is not tied down to a branch or rope so that there is no give. Always hanging with a rope. That also helps anyways...

This is my first year trying to be serious about hunting and make time for it. Is there any chance if I don’t have vines in my area I could tie a rope up and let it hang over a scrape?
@billyshirah96073 жыл бұрын
Quick question. I had a major trail that deer were using. I had a vine and cut it about 6ft long and hung it about waist high like the video says. I already had a trail camera up and had plenty of buck and doe movement. After I put out a mock scrape and vine the deer completely stopped using the trail except for a few spike bucks. I also put up a hang on stand about 25 to 30 yards from the mock scrape and vine. I put this up to try to bring in more of my bigger bucks that were using smaller trails and put them in range of my bow. That has been about a month and a half ago and no improvement. The deer that have gone by do not hit the vine at all. I live in lower Alabama. Did I do something wrong?

You can’t fool a deer’s nose. I never understood hunters that spray down everything trying to eliminate their scent but then use synthetic or “natural “ scents in scrapes or as lures. Let the deer do what they do, stay out of what they do, and you’ll definitely have better success. A deer lives and dies by its nose, there is no fooling it!
