Set up a few vine licking branches lately. I have only checked the camera on one and the deer are using it and can't resist it. I put up one which I didn't have a camera for, but it is on a convergence of trails. I set up a homemade hang on stand last night within 20 yards of the vine, and there were fresh tracks right underneath it, and it had rained very recently. Thanks so much for your help I enjoy your content!

Jeff, I watched your video on creating a mock scrape. On the private land that I hunt, I found a vine about the size of my thumb. I hung it from a limb with the bottom tip at waist height. Within six hours there was a nice young 6 point at it. The next day a better 8 point visited it. I'm really excited about deer season this fall. Thanks for all your tips, tricks and techniques. @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Archery season doesn't close during the gun season, but I think you were in the part of the state that allowed a buck during gun/bow/muzzleloader, based on the weapon used. Prior to their CWD policies in the SE part of the state, tags were for the deer and licenses/seasons were based on the weapon, which is how it works throughout the rest of the state. If the goal was increased harvest as they say, it would've made more sense to just increase tags and let the hunters figure out the best tool to use.

In hopes of improving my 20 acres to hunt on, i added a 2 mock scrapes to the property using your guidance. Ive tried the scent drippers in previous years without seeing much at the scrape locations. Hoping they will acclimate and use the mock scrapes that I put in today. Unfortunately I found out tonight that I need to go back out there tomorrow and redo them. I tied them directly to the branch at the top instead of free hanging it from the rope. No big deal, its only 15 minutes away. Thanks for the detailed info on these videos about the mock scrapes.

I’m almost certain unless something has changed recently that you can bowhunt during rifle season in Minnesota as long as you wear blaze orange. They have never closed bowhunting during rifle/shotgun season and then re open it after gun season is over. same as with bowhunting during the muzzleloader season.

Yes...it would be a disadvantage. Natural is always best 😉 Also an unnecessary waste of time... @whitetailhabitatsolutions do you have any advice for those of us trying to set mock scrapes on public land? Using your principles of high traffic trails where they converge in the woods tucked away from major food sources, having it near a bow stand and throwing a trail cam on it, how do I keep other hunters away? I plan to set one in the northern lower peninsula in Michigan, but I fear when I set one in the Holly area you used to roam, the pressure of other hunters may spoil my efforts. Do you have any suggestions?
@coltonlane80433 жыл бұрын
Setting up trail plots is a necessity for me, what’s planted on there vs an open plot? Also when does the width/size of the trail plot start to make it a daily food source for doe? (Instead of a director of movement)
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97513 жыл бұрын
There is so much to figure out Colton! Size of overall plot and entire plot system, neighbors plantings, soil, planting equipment, time, money, # of deer, region, % of cover...I would be misleading you if I said to plant 1 certain thing 😬 On something small I like Layered rye or more basic annual plantings with a rye layering in Sept. If larger I go with my typical green blends best for your location.

Hi Joe! I determine my bowstand location...then add s Mock scrape in shooting range. I then get rid of any perennial scraped nearby that pull deer away from the scrape and line of movement I am watching. I never place a stand in an area based purely on the scrape...

Antler restrictions in past years have helped incredibly so we obviously stopped that. I would love for Jeff to take over our local regulations.
