Their videos are absolutely incredible, I found the bike I've been searching for and I love how they're unbiased. They recommend parts they don't sell and go the extra step on making bikes look good. Keep up the good work guys you got a sub!

For a grand One could 1. Fender eliminator kit 2. Slip on exhaust 3. LED turn signals 4. Stainless braided lines for front brakes. 5. Bigger LED front light. But I would: 1: Tune suspension for my weight and aggressive riding style. 2: Better brake fluid and braided lines.

I am surprised a steering dampner wasn't brought up. I myself own a FJ-09 2016 and the front end gets light under acceleration and is generally wobblie. I installed a dampener, and the bike transformed to a planted stable hooligan bike. I've test rode the XSR and I do recall the suspension being much stiffer than the FJ, but still a dampener makes a better upgrade than a seat cowl

okleydokley i was looking at the mod to give the XSR900 a standard 7” LED headlight and it comes close to 1,000$ which it in itself is also ridiculous. So i basically look at all the mods i can do for a bike before i purchase one. This bike tops the scale for things i need to mod to fully enjoy the bike the most ridiculous being the rear tail light that looks like something so cheap and easily damaged. Locally the fishermen have 5$ headlamps that look like the rear tail light. There aren’t really many mods for the rear tail lamp, Abarth did the best at trying to conceal it, but everything else looks equally as cheap. The staggered fuel tank, staggered gauge just tells me that Yamaha for some reason did this. “Let’s create a bike, with a concept of convincing buyers to accept a 3 cylinder, and to make it even more of a difficult sale, let’s make the head light, tail light and fuel cap placement so off, that someone would really have to enjoy the 3 cylinder to enjoy it, or just go with a 4 cylinder different brand z900RS comes to mind

That tail cowl sure is nice, but for $500, I'm going with stainless break lines, adjustable levers and engine protection way before Yamaha ever got that kind of money. I'd love to here it with a Yoshi pipe. Maybe XSR900 Mod part 2?
@nickkapetanakis5446

I would be more interested in the sound anyway, probably not worth it for any other reason. I have ridden it and I kept wanting to place my right foot on the exhaust pipe and not that safety guard that they have there. I thought the bike was brilliant bone stock. Thing just takes off when you want it to and the fueling was way better than the fz09. Which, may need a refresh now. Thanks for the reply!

$500 is ridiculous for a piece of stamped aluminum. Yamaha is acting like BMW with the R9T. What this bike needs is better tires, better brake lines and pads, and for most people, stiffer front springs. Important stuff, not exhaust or tail tidy.

Great video, thanks. There is one major problem that is keeping me from buying this bike, and that is the shape of that darn tank and where its ridge hits the interior of my legs. It does not fit me or any of my friends and I noticed during the XSR review video, the tank edge is hitting you guys in the same spot. Please, please, please tell me they are going to make a new tank, or that there is an after market tank that maybe holds more and better contours to your legs. I can't imagine holding on to the tank with my thighs for more than 10 minutes without it being uncomfortable.

I KNOW the vid is about 2 years old, but damn. . .I'm still on the fence. At the moment I'm deciding between $6999.99 for new '17 XSR9, or $7499.99 for new '16 CB1000R? Like the styling of both, but don't like installing cam chain tensioner from the gate (seems like R&D shoulda had that sorted). And the factory cowl, which I love, just a few hairs under $500.00 (there goes the price difference). Any thoughts/opinions?

+ZLA Lemmy I agree! It really is superb in terms of a stock bike, and that exhaust! I just find the seat incredibly stiff, with very limited padding. And considering I ride a Duke 390, which already has a super hard seat, I really want to know how to go about it. Opinion is divided on going for a gel insert or just adding foam, but you guys would be better suited to advice. Also, staying in a potholed country like India, I really could do with a raised suspension and with some more travel. What are your thoughts?

Lemmy how tall are you? I sat on this bike at a dealer and I absolutely love the bar positioning but the pegs are a little high. Are there aftermarket seat or rear sets? This bike is an unbelievable value, as a second bike, or commuter the price is phenomenal and I almost bought it. as for the comments below especially regarding the rear cowl...it is to die for so if it costs 300-500 I would have bought it, some bikes really just need to cover the passenger seat.

Lemmy quick couple of questions for you. I've been looking at the SC project exhaust for this bike. I'd really like to get it, but reviews of SCP exhausts on other bikes suggest that they're obnoxiously noisy. What's your take on them? Also, I see Yamaha have started listing ohlins suspension upgrades as official accessories. I'm 6ft2 and about 280 pounds all geared up and I've always found the rear suspender on the xsr leaves a bit to be desired. Do you think it's worth upgrading to the ohlins?

Well I'm primarily using the bike as my daily commuter as well as for weekend trips. The roads around me aren't the best and with the XSR I'm beginning to notice just how bad they are. I'm no racer, so I worry that the upgrade might bring no noticeable improvement for my usage/style of riding... basically I might be flushing good money down the drain
@crypto_que
@crypto_que 8 жыл бұрын
Onyeka, if I may at your height investing in a suspension upgrade will be worth every penny maybe not now but over time. Especially if you notice any sag or give (or lack of rebound) in your suspension or bumps become extra brutal then please do your self a favor and start setting aside money for an upgrade. With a little research there may be hybrid setups (Frankenstein/Donor) from FZ-09 that others have used. Lastly it is your passion or maybe your only mode of transportation (mine was) as long as your responsibilities are taken care of... spend the money.

It's not so much the volume (though it's nice to have a louder sound) but also the quality of the sound. For reference compare the stock sound of the Thruxton R (or the RnineT) to that of the XSR900. The XSR for all its abilities doesn't sound quite as nice. Regarding the tyres, the Bridgestone Battleaxe S20s that come as standard (in my opinion) are more than adequate for road use.

@@RevZilla When your fuel light comes on, then you are riding on reserve. Point being, check your gas tank. Having a bottle of fuel strapped to your handlebars ALL THE TIME for some kind of permanent fix is absolutely ridiculous.

The only thing that has kept me from buying this bike is the ridiculously high seat height. I'm sure Yamaha has listened to this complaint 10,000 times and hopefully they correct this problem. Not only does it make this otherwise beautiful bike look foolish, it also keeps shorter riders from considering the bike...

I hate what Yamaha did with this model. It's impossible to find the old one in good condition (nobody wants to sell) and current XSR 900 looks plain awful. Apparently Yamaha can make it look like the old one... for 20% extra on top of the hefty $14k ($16.8k total). I can't believe it was $9.5k in 2016. And they're surprised sale numbers dropped half way through this year.

Well Spurgeon now owns that Tiger, but he doesn't own an XSR. He likes riding off-road, and it's tough to ride the XSR off-road. As for Lemmy, he has on old KTM dirt bike for off-road riding and prefers his stable of homebuilt bikes for on-road duty. -DrewZilla
