I am surprised a steering dampner wasn't brought up. I myself own a FJ-09 2016 and the front end gets light under acceleration and is generally wobblie. I installed a dampener, and the bike transformed to a planted stable hooligan bike. I've test rode the XSR and I do recall the suspension being much stiffer than the FJ, but still a dampener makes a better upgrade than a seat cowl

okleydokley i was looking at the mod to give the XSR900 a standard 7” LED headlight and it comes close to 1,000$ which it in itself is also ridiculous. So i basically look at all the mods i can do for a bike before i purchase one. This bike tops the scale for things i need to mod to fully enjoy the bike the most ridiculous being the rear tail light that looks like something so cheap and easily damaged. Locally the fishermen have 5$ headlamps that look like the rear tail light. There aren’t really many mods for the rear tail lamp, Abarth did the best at trying to conceal it, but everything else looks equally as cheap. The staggered fuel tank, staggered gauge just tells me that Yamaha for some reason did this. “Let’s create a bike, with a concept of convincing buyers to accept a 3 cylinder, and to make it even more of a difficult sale, let’s make the head light, tail light and fuel cap placement so off, that someone would really have to enjoy the 3 cylinder to enjoy it, or just go with a 4 cylinder different brand z900RS comes to mind

@nickkapetanakis54468 жыл бұрын
I would be more interested in the sound anyway, probably not worth it for any other reason. I have ridden it and I kept wanting to place my right foot on the exhaust pipe and not that safety guard that they have there. I thought the bike was brilliant bone stock. Thing just takes off when you want it to and the fueling was way better than the fz09. Which, may need a refresh now. Thanks for the reply!

$500 is ridiculous for a piece of stamped aluminum. Yamaha is acting like BMW with the R9T. What this bike needs is better tires, better brake lines and pads, and for most people, stiffer front springs. Important stuff, not exhaust or tail tidy.

Lemmy how tall are you? I sat on this bike at a dealer and I absolutely love the bar positioning but the pegs are a little high. Are there aftermarket seat or rear sets? This bike is an unbelievable value, as a second bike, or commuter the price is phenomenal and I almost bought it. as for the comments below especially regarding the rear cowl...it is to die for so if it costs 300-500 I would have bought it, some bikes really just need to cover the passenger seat.
@onyekaonyia83958 жыл бұрын
Lemmy quick couple of questions for you. I've been looking at the SC project exhaust for this bike. I'd really like to get it, but reviews of SCP exhausts on other bikes suggest that they're obnoxiously noisy. What's your take on them? Also, I see Yamaha have started listing ohlins suspension upgrades as official accessories. I'm 6ft2 and about 280 pounds all geared up and I've always found the rear suspender on the xsr leaves a bit to be desired. Do you think it's worth upgrading to the ohlins?
@onyekaonyia83958 жыл бұрын
Well I'm primarily using the bike as my daily commuter as well as for weekend trips. The roads around me aren't the best and with the XSR I'm beginning to notice just how bad they are. I'm no racer, so I worry that the upgrade might bring no noticeable improvement for my usage/style of riding... basically I might be flushing good money down the drain
@crypto_que8 жыл бұрын
Onyeka, if I may at your height investing in a suspension upgrade will be worth every penny maybe not now but over time. Especially if you notice any sag or give (or lack of rebound) in your suspension or bumps become extra brutal then please do your self a favor and start setting aside money for an upgrade. With a little research there may be hybrid setups (Frankenstein/Donor) from FZ-09 that others have used. Lastly it is your passion or maybe your only mode of transportation (mine was) as long as your responsibilities are taken care of... spend the money.

when y'all gonna review the tracer 700?
@m.rraghav8178 жыл бұрын
+ZLA Lemmy ahh same engine but all 3 bikes have a few tiny nitty bitty differences, also please do try to clarify if the fz-07,xsr700 and tracer 700 have different exhaust dimensions?

Can't believe you haven't eliminated the fender with the cheap graves fender eliminator. I mean cmon, only $62 for it. Thought that was a fo sho mod lol
@WStar4Life8 жыл бұрын
+ZLA Lemmy ya I understand but for $60 I figured it was a gimme, and it makes the back end look much better

sure take off all the fenders. Maybe some people ride in the rain?

The only thing that has kept me from buying this bike is the ridiculously high seat height. I'm sure Yamaha has listened to this complaint 10,000 times and hopefully they correct this problem. Not only does it make this otherwise beautiful bike look foolish, it also keeps shorter riders from considering the bike...

I hate what Yamaha did with this model. It's impossible to find the old one in good condition (nobody wants to sell) and current XSR 900 looks plain awful. Apparently Yamaha can make it look like the old one... for 20% extra on top of the hefty $14k ($16.8k total). I can't believe it was $9.5k in 2016. And they're surprised sale numbers dropped half way through this year.

Do Spurg and Lemmy like this bike better than the Triumph Tiger X...that Spurg liked so much?
@RevZilla7 жыл бұрын
Well Spurgeon now owns that Tiger, but he doesn't own an XSR. He likes riding off-road, and it's tough to ride the XSR off-road. As for Lemmy, he has on old KTM dirt bike for off-road riding and prefers his stable of homebuilt bikes for on-road duty. -DrewZilla

The frame sliders and center stand will fit 2014-2016 FZ-09s. The radiator guard will fit 2014-2017 models. You can also carry the spare fuel on an FZ-09. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shogun-frame-sliders-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09-xsr900 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sw-motech-centerstand-yamaha-fz-09-xsr900 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/rg-racing-radiator-guard-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09-xsr900 *www.revzilla.com/yamaha-xsr900-parts-upgrades

ZLA Lemmy I've got the official bar end mirrors on my xsr900 and they don't stop me from splitting. And yes, the stock mirrors are absolutely rubbish (if you're as broad shouldered as I am).

what you have actually done is ruin it ! hideous radiator guard , rancid rear cowling and a centre stand !!!! the first thing I would do is remove the shocking standard led rear light, I hope this isnt a common thing in america as its the most tasteless list of mods i think i have ever seen !!

Such a high voice for a big guy. It’s distracting. Reminds me of Steven Crowder. I’m guessing his real talking voice isn’t that pitchy.
